When a brand such as Baume & Mercier says they’re digging into their archives for new watches, you can’t be quite sure what you might see. As one of the seven oldest watch brands, they’ve got quite an assortment of inspiration to draw from. This latest batch of vintage-inspired pieces will expand the Clifton collection that we saw introduced earlier this year.

Toward the end of high school, I started to discover high-end watches. Little-by-little, I would see things in store windows while strolling through shopping malls or at the watch and jewelry area at Costco. I never went out of my way to look for nice watches, but became intrigued by a few that spoke to me…
It is no surprise that the Baume & Mercier Clifton collection has garnered universal praise. The essential ingredients of this line of watches are restrained classical looks, combined with an understated elegance. While the trend of making funky watches with unusual time telling displays continues unabated, sometimes, all we want is a stylish and timeless design that just feels right.
Baume et Mercier is an interesting brand that hasn’t seen a large share of the spotlight in recent years. Having a model range that is almost exclusively dress watches or vintage-inspired pieces has meant that B&M spent years playing second to sport watch brands like Tag Heuer and Omega.
It’s like the year of the friggin’ worldtimer. Everyone and their grandma has one now and it looks like the mere GMT has been delegated to the backseat still claiming that least Rolex likes him. Baume & Mercier is the latest watch maker to release their version of the worldtimer with a new piece under the Capeland collection…
Looking for a new dress watch? Be sure to check out the range of options presented by the new Baume & Mercier Clifton line. Encompassing both three-handers and two stunning Complete Calendar models, the Clifton was inspired by past B&M models from the 1950s and is a continuation of the Baume & Mercier Classima line. With the Clifton, B&M have created what looks to be a very versatile and understated line of everyday dress watches that offer a range of sizes, case metals, and dial designs.
The newer Baume & Mercier Capeland watch is not new for 2012 as it originally came out a year or two ago. I covered some of the 2011 Capeland models here. For 2012, Baume & Mercier extended the collection with new colors, and I got a nice hands-on look at the collection. It goes without […]
I remember the good ol’ days when watches were modern and design was fresh and enthusiastic. Boy, those where some crazy times. We sure have come a long way since then. Today things are better and we’ve learned our lesson. Don’t try to improve upon watch design or create new things. No one wants to […]
The first time that I wrote about Baume & Mercier’s new for 2011 Capeland collection watches I was a bit irritated. The reason for that sentiment was the revival of the Capeland name in a thoroughly retro collection, whereas the original Capeland watches from about a decade or so ago were much more modern. In […]
This was one of the best new Baume & Mercier at SIHH 2010, and that really isn’t saying much. The brand’s return to “heritage” (wow, isn’t that starting to sound REALLY cliche these days) has a release of “classic” looking watches. A term that is starting to get on my nerves these days. Like the […]
Baume & Mercier Add New Models To Its William Baume Editions: The Retrograde, Ultraflat, And Tourbillon Watches
At Baume et Mercier (aka Baume & Mercier), the William Baume name has always applied to very classic simple watches. If you want a handsome and timeless Swiss watch that won’t utterly devastate your bank account, the William Baume collection is usually a good place to look. Now, getting a bit more serious with the […]
