Chopard has just announced that it will debut a new luxury watch brand under its corporate guidance and ownership in 2014 celebrating the work of historic Swiss watchmaker Ferdinand Berthoud. Technically a new and distinct company, the new brand will be located in Fleurier near Chopard in the Val-de-Travers canton of Switzerland…

2013 has been an interesting year for Chopard. On one hand they officially unveiled a new collection of Classic Racing SuperFast watches with in-house made movements, and on the other hand they have released this curious new collection of very well-priced Mille Miglia models that are purported to be a limited edition for 2013 alone. Is that the deal or is this an experiment for the future?
When you create a limited edition watch of just 25 pieces in platinum you are basically creating a perfect “my timepiece is still cooler than your’s” watch. Chopard’s L.U.C XPS is a simple dress watch, but it is one of my favs, and in addition to having a sexy design it has a lot of horological bragging rights.
For 2013 Chopard will release a new version of the L.U.C Engine One watch that was originally debuted back in 2010 (we have some hands-on pictures here). The new watch is called the L.U.C Engine One H, “H” likely standing for “horizontal,” which is exactly what is new about this timepiece.
Chopard is the latest luxury company to use the internet for sales of their products. They join a long list of competitor brands such as Cartier, Montblanc, and Bell & Ross who are using the internet’s reach and 24/7 availability to sell their products to interested consumers.
This is a good example of why a hands-on article makes a lot more sense for curious watch lovers than relying on marketing images provided by the brands. Perhaps I should discuss what that is all about first. Excuse the tangent, but let me share something with you about the watch industry (and many others […]
Chopard has had a really interesting last several years in terms of defining their brand and their release of new products. They benefit from not being part of a large group – which means they can experiment, play around, and sometimes just release cool things that aren’t specifically meant for a target customer or demographic. […]
For 2012 Chopard once again comes out with a new Mille Miglia watch. This time it’s a GMT chronograph as a limited edition. According to Chopard, the Mille Miglia represents “consistently reinvented perfection”. That sounds pretty lofty. I would go with “consistently renovated”. That better represents how Chopard makes slows changes and visual enhancements to […]
The Chopard Mille Miglia watch is an icon. There have been dozens of them and in a sense, these are like the first Hublot Big Bang watches…
2011 sees the release of the 5th version of Chopard’s Classic Racing Jacky Ickx Edition watches. The former high-profile race car driver who was popular in the 1970s has a long history with timing and watch brands. Chopard is by no means the first brand to honor the driver with timepieces. Though I believe that […]
I put this question before you now: Can a man wear a pink watch and retain his masculinity? I made fun of the first guy I saw wearing a “salmon” colored shirt. But, today, it isn’t that uncommon. Worn properly, and in the right style, pink isn’t always out-of-place. So I wonder, has the time […]
I love this watch, but not everyone will. Some people might not get it – but the beauty is crystal clear to me. This watch was announced last year and was a curious release for Chopard…
At the 2011 Oscars, best actor Colin Firth was wearing a Chopard L.U.C XPS watch – could you ask for a classier tuxedo watch? The L.U.C XPS of this type first came out in 2009, and if it were not for the “Chopard” name, I would think it was a Dell computer. This is also […]
“This might be the best piece of art y’all have,” says rapper Birdman (aka,”Baby,” aka Brian Williams) in regard to a diamond encrusted Chopard watch that he is receiving for the first time in the above video. Taken last summer (I believe), you have an intimate look at the mentality and desires of this type […]
Like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore or Hublot Big Bang, the Chopard Mille Miglia is a constant force of consistency, which little changes each year to help spice up a core collection timepiece that hopes to find a delicious new flavor to tempt you. It is like you know you enjoy ice cream, but […]
Vroom vroom! Here is the limited edition Chopard L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon watch that has a dial meant to look like the top of an engine. This watch really looks cooler on the wrist than in mere images. Nicely rendered in most ways – I like! Limited to 150 pieces and just shy of $75,000. […]
