The Royal KonTiki Two Time Zones by Eterna is a handsome watch, but watch industry pundits will no doubt consider the bigger story being the first appearance of the new Calibre 39 in a production watch. It couldn’t have happened soon enough. When the Calibre 39 was announced this year, its appearance seemed to embody […]

A reader recently asked me “what is going on with Eterna? I haven’t seen their stuff in stores in a while.” Well Eterna is alive and more than kicking, but I don’t know how much of their stuff you can find in North America.
Eterna has just announced that they have created a new movement, dubbed the Calibre 39, which is the result of a project that started in 2007. The Calibre 39 is a fully modular movement that has been designed to be as expandable as possible, ranging from a manual two-hander to a column wheel-equipped flyback chronograph.
“Spherodrive” is a term that sounds really cool. I sort of want to shake the hand of the guy who penned it. Funny how the Swiss watch industry still has clever engineering-minded people who come up with this technology and these names…
Bar none, my favorite new watch for 2010 from Eterna is this wonderful heritage re-release model of the classic Super KonTiki from 1973. While the new and older version of the watch have some differences, the character of the original classic remains (thankfully). I first wrote about the original Eterna Super KonTiki watch here, discussing […]
While there have been a few new releases from Eterna this year, the company has been relatively quiet. I did happen to notice this fine new release based on their re-issue of the classic KonTiki model. There have actually been a great deal of KonTiki watches over the years, but the versions with the four […]
Leave it to a very ordinary watch to showcase some cool new technology. This is really interesting because most watch brands would just go nuts with a wildly designed watch and marketing to tell the world about even the slightest movement improvement. This is actually quite a cool thing from Eterna. You should also know […]
Contessa by Eterna – Women’s Swiss Watch model It’s very hard to please a woman. Especially when we come armed with knowledge, taste, and high expectations. It must be even more difficult for such a traditional manufacture to create a dynamic timepiece for modern women that includes technological performance and aesthetic appeal. But I must […]
Watch lovers each have “holy grail” watches. These are prized pieces that are rare and desirable to the watch lover. They are sometimes new watches, old watches, expensive watches, or just plain rare watches. Here is an interesting one from Eterna, in the best condition I have ever seen…
It is only recently that Eterna has returned to the US market. For a long time, the lauded watch maker just sort of ignored US shores with its branded products. That isn’t true with the watches that it makes for Porsche Design though. In 2008, Eterna returned to the US market with a couple of […]
The Eterna KonTiki Diver was to be one of the first new Eterna watches to be officially sold in the US again. The wait was long. Years overdue, literally. We all sat and drooled over the pictures of the unique looking diver watch from Eterna that somehow appeared perfectly designed. I recall thinking to myself, […]
Good ol’ Eterna. I am so happy they are soon to be officially distributed in the US once again. Eterna is not well known, and that is a shame. The company actually started ETA, which makes most of the movements in all Swiss watches. ETA was later sold to the Swatch Group. Eterna also makes […]
