At SIHH this past January, IWC released their new Ingenieur collection, featuring over a dozen new timepieces from the revamped line. While most press attention from the collection focused on the in-house calibers, casing materials and range of complications in the new 46mm models

From a marketing perspective IWC has been dedicating each year to a particular watch collection. 2013 is all about the Ingenieur, but again, that is just from a marketing and PR perspective. There is more on the IWC plate. Another new release for 2013 is rather important for fans of the Portuguese collection. Updated and arguably more sporty than ever, this is the best Portuguese chronograph watch to date.
Perhaps IWC’s new 40mm wide Ingenieur dress watch was the most talked about new Ingenieur piece for 2013, but for those who like larger sport watches these more simple-dialed Ingenieur pieces will fit the bill. Whether it is a phase or just because I like loud watches, I fully appreciate smaller dress watches, but simply have so little time in my life to wear them.
IWC likes to focus each year on one of its watch families. While we now know that 2013 is the year of the Ingénieur, with various models already announced, last year was the year of the Pilot… What may have been lost to some was the introduction of a brand new IWC Pilot Worldtimer…
Did you get your fill of pilot’s watches from IWC in 2012? Good, as they have directed their 2013 efforts towards the Ingenieur and have launched a series of new models that commemorate their historic line of anti-magnetic watches that were originally designed for duty on the wrist of French engineers.
IWC fan boys (of which there are many) have a serious love affair with the Big Pilot watch family – and it is easy to see why with its large masculine looks and action-ready stance. For review I have checked out one of the new Big Pilot pieces that comes in an all ceramic case and is part of the Top Gun collection.
Back in 2008 IWC released a collection called “Vintage” which was a bit of a misnomer. It was the beginning of the serious retro watch craze and IWC released a collection of stunning vintage themed versions of their contemporary collection.
One of the most talked about watches from IWC for 2012 is the long-named Spitfire Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month watch. Trust me, it is easy to mess that name up when trying to remember it. Especially because it also has a chronograph and does not include that part of the watch in the title. This [...]
Hey mister? You want a big watch that is easy to read? Well do I have something for you! The iconic classic aviator watch look is one that IWC has been more than successfully perpetuating for quite some time. They probably do it the best, and at the least they are the best at selling [...]
If you are a dedicated watch follower, then by now you know that 2012 is the year of the Pilot watch for IWC. Last week I shared my thoughts on the new for 2012 IWC Pilot Chronograph Top Gun Miramar watch here. Now I get to share with you the entire collection of new Pilot [...]
Hitting pretty close to home (for me) IWC announces its first new watch of 2012 with a piece titled after the location of a US Marine Corps base in San Diego. Miramar is the location of the Naval Air Station and where TOPGUN pilots are trained. For a while now IWC has been proud of [...]
IWC recently announced a new version of their Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph watch that came out about two years ago. The great looking piece is probably one of my top pics from the brand at this time and now is featured in an even more sporty skin. This version is done in collection with the [...]
What you are seeing here is the most complicated IWC watch ever created. It is called the Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia (ref. 5041) and it will be available only via custom order. IWC recently launched it at a powerful celestial observatory in Chile, and it represents a new high-mark for the brand. While the watch itself [...]
Gorgeous, isn’t it? This is the IWC Aquatimer 2000, reference 3568-02. Introduced in 2009, the 3568 (the 02 suffix denotes the rubber strap version) replaces the internal-bezel 3548 model. Bolder in design, the 3568 retains the ETA-based 30110 movement (2892-A2 base), but upgrades to a sapphire-coated conventional bezel with spectacular six-layer underside SuperLumiNova. It’s also [...]
I did a survey on Luxist within the last year that was a survey of the “best” luxury watch brands according to the site’s readers who participated in the poll. I had to choose five brands, and among those was IWC. With a strong, focused product line, and an emphasis on performance and gentlemen’s sport [...]
Big Pilot + Perpetual Calendar watch? Yes please! I personally think it is great. IWC did a good job with this orange and black beauty. But a limited edition only? Well, maybe we will see more of them in the future. Actually we have seen a lot of IWC watches in limited edition skin lately, [...]
