When I hear the name “Calatrava” I think of Patek Philippe, and when I think about Patek Philippe I think about tradition. Tradition in the sense of a watch means a lot of things. It usually implies timeless design, and often a retention of values that your father or grandfather would have probably recognized.

For the Only Watch 2013 charity auction, Patek Philippe has produced a one-of-a-kind version of the discontinued ref. 5004 in titanium called the 5004T. While Patek Philippe has produced titanium watches in the past, they are exceedingly rare and none that I can find have been produced as part of an series.
When Patek Philippe started to release white-dialed versions of their popular Nautilus model I was intrigued. It was a very fresh color for their sport line, and while it wasn’t a radical difference, it isn’t something we’ve seen in this collection before.
While I would not tend to be a person who checks off “full pave” or “dragon dial” on the list of things I like in watches for my self, this diamond studded version of the Patek Philippe Nautilus with an engraved enamel dragon dial is really beautiful.
Los Angeles is the first US city with a dedicated Patek Philippe brand boutique store (previously discussed here), and I got a chance to check it out recently. I have to say, the ambiance there is really lovely.
While the famous high-end watch maker Patek Philippe certainly has other mono-brand boutiques in other parts of the world, they will open their very first American stand-alone boutique this month in July of 2012. The location is Los Angeles on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Patek Philippe timepieces have been featured in the watch and [...]
The 5130G is an extremely classic Patek Phillipe watch with a look most any watch lover will recognize. It’s world time feature is a signature complication that has been in the Patek Philippe family for a long time. Other high-end brands of course have their own version of the double disc based world-time function, but [...]
I was really happy to get my hands on a Patek Philippe Ref. 5235 watch. It apparently wasn’t ready in time to show people at Baselworld 2012. Patek shared with me that the reason for this was the dial. There is a specially engraved Patek Philippe name logo that needed to be done just right. [...]
Silicon for the win! The material that has had watch brands debating and experimenting is here to stay and Patek Philippe is making sure of that. News from the big guys in Switzerland says that they intend for all Patek Philippe watches in the future to have Silinvar (their type of silicon) parts. A new [...]
April 1st, 2011 Switzerland. Historic and prestigious Swiss watch brand Patek Philippe has just unveiled a new member of their popular “father and son” watch ads. The advertising campaign that seeks to promote the values parents bestow upon their children and the longevity of Patek Philippe timepieces makes a bold new statement on a previously [...]
This is it folks, this is the Patek Philippe watch (of today) that you are going to want. Brand new for 2011, and likely hard as hell to get for the foreseeable future, this is the Reference 5270 perpetual calendar chronograph watch (5720G). In white gold the case is Western-wearable at 41mm wide and looks [...]
Yesterday, March 1st, 2011 Charlie Sheen joined Twitter. I don’t know if this was his first soiree on the site, but in less than 24 hours he had almost 650,000 followers. Amazing. In his third tweet Charlie wrote “The only watch that keeps Warlock time – Class of 1927 ring “Bambino U” Following this was [...]
In my opinion this is a Patek Philippe watch you just don’t see every day. Not sure if it is still being made, but this is a Patek Philippe Ref. 5085 and is quite stunning for what it is. You really don’t see a lot of Patek Philippe watches on metal bracelets aside from the [...]
One of the most interesting things that I learned from “Patek Philippe In America: Marketing the World’s Foremost Watch” was just how important America’s role was in the image and success that Patek Phillipe has today. It is probably fair to say that not nearly as many people would care about Patek Philippe if it [...]
Given the status that Patek Philippe holds in the watch community, I can safely hold them to a very high standard – even in their marketing. Starting in August of 2010, Patek Philippe will roll out a new advertising campaign for its womens watches. Watch advertising is crucially important because they make important value propositions [...]
New Patek Philippe watches for 2010 didn’t exactly make me jump for joy, but I did like the two new additions to the Nautilus collection. No new movements, but new implementations in the Nautilus cases. Here is the Nautilus Chronograph (ref. 5980 in steel and 5980R in gold), and I also liked the Nautilus Annual [...]
