Well, would you look at that – the folks over at Richard Mille, known purveyors of all things to make crazy lightweight watches, have just come up with a new material to incorporate in their designs. Then again, I say (type?) that with tongue firmly in cheek. While this is certainly a new material in the world of luxury watches, it’s not something they invented on their own.

The nickname of this highly exclusive Richard Mille watch is “Mark of the Beast.” It refers to Olympic runner Yohan Blake’s track name which is “The Beast,” given to him as he sprints with his fists open as though brandishing claws. Blake is also a Richard Mille brand ambassador, the latest in a line of athletes that Richard Mille has forced to wear delicate expensive watches while they perform.
While sport lovers felt it was interesting and perhaps a bit strange for tennis champion Rafael Nadal to wear a half million dollar plus watch while competing, it was all about an assertion of brand values for Richard Mille. Be it tennis, golf, automotive racing, flight, or diving, Richard Mille has proven that its timepiece not only have a place, but the durability and character required to be part of some of the word’s most demanding activities.
Not one to let SIHH’s spotlight simply pass them by, Richard Mille announced a limited edition model called the RM 58-01 Tourbillon World Timer Jean Todt Limited Edition. That rather long name suggests a lot about the watch but may leave some people questioning – who is Jean Todt? Jean Todt is the current President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and has been a notable figure in international professional racing for many years.
If you are a fan of Monty Python then you are a fan of comedy derived frequently from irony, and often from absurdity. Consider me such a fan, and I have a feeling that Mr. Mille falls in this same camp.
Richard Mille follows in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s footsteps (sort of ) by creating a watch specially designed to be worn while playing polo. Jaeger-LeCoultre did this over 80 years ago with the Reverso, and now Richard Mille has the RM 053.
Let’s face it, there are not many brands like Richard Mille. They are effectively the Pagani Automobili of the watch world as they have consistently pushed the limits and interaction of materials, technology, and design. Richard Mille is famous for their use of massively complex skeleton movements, curved tonneau cases, and exotic materials. Some readers […]
Richard Mille has once again broken new ground in luxury. Doing what no one else could do, they have done the unthinkable…. matched a tourbillon-based movement with a slide-rule bezel. Such passion! Limited to just 30 pieces, less than three dozen lucky souls will have the comfort of flying high knowing that Richard Mille is […]
No doubt it is cool. It is also wildly expensive and a showpiece above all else. This new highly limited edition watch from Richard Mille is the RM 056 and comes in an all sapphire crystal case. It is very visually intriguing and costs a mere $1,650,000. Probably easier to laugh about the price rather […]
One of the new Richard Mille watches to be debuted in January for 2012 is this RM 037 timepiece. While not the flagship new product, it is a nice watch that represents another nice and super pricey daily wear. The design evolution is quite interesting. Taken from previous Richard Mille watches are the hour markers […]
As a special one-off piece Richard Mille is making this RM 055 JC watch for charity. It will be auctioned off on September 14th in Beijing as part of the brand’s continual push to capture more of the Chinese market. Who better than to do it with Jackie Chan? The watch will officially be called […]
I recently wrote about the new for 2011 ultra thin RM 033 watch here. My hands-on review showed you the version of the RM 033 (RM033) with the Roman numeral dial. As promised, here is an exclusive look at the RM 033 with an Arabic numeral dial. The face is cleaned up and large Richard […]
Richard Mille joins the thin watch craze in 2011 with their 6.30mm thick “Extra Flat Automatic” RM 033 watch. For the complexity of a Richard Mille watch case 6.30mm thick is pretty darn good. The brand makes sure to maintain as much of the signature look as possible in the design of the case – […]
Among other things, Richard Mille gets an award for having some of the longest technical spec sheets out there. I wouldn’t normally do this, but below you can read the entire thing – it is like an RM 032 bible! Brand spanking new is this new RM 032 Automatic Chronograph Diver’s watch that sits between […]
The new complication here in the Richard Mille RM 030 is quizzical to me. The idea is that the automatic rotor detaches from winding the mainspring is full. The mainspring has a total power reserve of 50 hours, when it gets down to 40 hours, the rotor reattaches thanks to a type of clutch. Why? […]
The king of bling this is not, the king of cool, this just might be. I was giddy like a school boy to be playing with the Richard Mille RM028 watch. This is the more ‘reasonable’ version of their diving watch line. The earlier RM025 Tourbillon Chronograph Diver is almost a cosmic joke being a […]
