The Swatch Random Ghost is in the New Gent collection and is a totally transparent watch with a colorful, exposed quartz movement.

When it comes to buying a watch (be it mechanical or quartz), required maintenance is likely the furthest thing from your mind. Sure, you might know that you need send it in for service in three years, or that your battery will need to be replaced in five. We definitely haven’t had anything like the car companies offer, though, with routine maintenance rolled into the purchase price. Until now, that is.
A few weeks back, Swatch treated us to an unveiling of their all-new Scuba Libre novelty collection – a fun assortment of brightly colored models with a decidedly aquatic theme. Scuba Libre’s tag line is “Mad About The Sea,” and Swatch put together this artistic video (commercial) interpretation of our obsession with the whimsical underwater world to coincide with the release…
Let’s look at the headline features. It’s a fully automated assembly made mechanical movement composed of only 51 components, a 90 hour power reserve and a selling price of no more than 100 Swiss Francs. To those who go by other currencies, this translates into 105.50 USD, 81.20 Euro or 68.3 GBP…
For a country so known for conservatism, the Swatch D’Schwizer timepiece is a rare public display of Swiss humor. Page 1 of the 2012 Swatch Group annual investor report is humorously decorated with satirical versions of each of the 26 Swiss cantonal coat of arms (you can see the official Switzerland canton coat of arms list here on Wikipedia).
I am watching a video right now on Swatch’s website that is a TV commercial for the Swatch Touch watch. I haven’t actually seen it on television, but then again I am not likely watching the right channels. The video is graphical and friendly and MC Hammer’s famous song from the early 1990′s is playing. […]
Swatch’s new resident weirdo designer Jeremy Scott follows up his first collection for the watch brand with another less than a year later. I first discussed the Jeremy Scott collection of watches for Swatch here – focusing on the Lighting Flash Watch that I thought was pretty cool. There are five new ones now, arguably […]
The T-Touch technology from Tissot watches (developed for them by ETA which, like Tissot, is Swatch Group owned) is finally making its way down-market to Swatch. This will debut in a new collection of watches called the Swatch Touch. These fun digital timepieces will come in a host of colors and have no pushers/button. Rather, […]
I just had to have this watch when I saw it. It was like Flash Gordon on my wrist. This lighting bolt Swatch is a clever version of the famous watch designed – not by Flash Gordon – but by fashion designer Jeremy Scott. The bold looking timepiece is, by all accounts, a fashion watch. […]
Fun watches for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics from Swiss Swatch. These seasonal watches are pretty neat – for the occasion. Here is a mini review of the trio. Each has a function aside from being Olympics related, that is except the “Sporty Friends” watch, which has an image of the Vancouver Olympics cartoon mascots. […]
Last month you were able to enter for a chance to win a free Swatch Automatic Chrono watch from aBlogtoRead.com. The winner has received the Swatch watch and has been enjoying it, and has sent me a few shots of the watch as a follow up. Congrats to Andrew D. winning the new Swatch watch […]
The holidays are more or less over, the gifts have been given – perhaps a few left dangling “in the mail” somewhere – but few surprises are left. Did you get the watch that you wanted? Did you even ask for it? My philosophy is that unless someone knows exactly what you want (and where […]
The game changing watch has changed its game. Swatch is one of the most popular names in watches – ever…
A new month and a new watch giveaway – this time you have a chance at winning a free watch from probably the largest Swiss watch maker, Swatch. The ubiquitous watch brand is the poster child of the Swatch Group, that timepiece that made Swiss watches cool again back in the 1980′s. Swatch has come […]
This is a slightly older collection (from 2003), and the reason I talk about it is because Swatch plays an important role in the new James Bond Movie: 007 Quantum of Solace. Further still, there will be a new collection of Swatch watches dedicated to the 007 villains, all to celebrate Bond’s newest villain; Dr. […]
As an engineer, it’s always interesting to me to think about what a watch is designed for. In some ways, it’s easy to make “The World’s Finest Watch” if cost and time are no consideration. It’s much harder, on the other hand, to make a world-class watch for the masses for under, say, $200. Engineering both low-cost and style into a mechanical watch is not a simple task.
