For 2013, the aBlogtoWatch watch gift guide will take the form of an editor’s and contributor’s wish list. Some of the editorial team has gone ahead and chosen a few of the timepieces from last year that are really high on their list. These are mostly newer watches, but ones that should be available for purchase now. So for this holiday season you’ll get a good idea of what we’ve personally wanted, and we didn’t include crazy stuff that no one can get, even if they could afford it.

It may seem like a no-brainer. Buy a watch on the internet, save a few bucks, it shows up at your door in a few days and you’re good to go! Right? Well, in reality it’s not quite that simple or cut and dry.

External influences such as moisture, temperature, position and magnetism are not allowed to interfere with the operation of these precision machines.
How is it that in today’s day and age, watch advice falls into the “grooming” category is a mystery to me. Maybe you keep your watches in the bathroom, I don’t know… Aside from this odd categorization, internet ‘guy advice’ video series Mansome spends some time at major watch retailer Tourneau to acquire some simple advice for your average man on buying a timepiece (tip # 1, watches aren’t exactly like shaving razors).
The trend of buying vintage watches has exploded in recent years with record prices realized for many vintage pieces. Yet buying and collecting vintage watches can be intimidating to novices. Rolex especially, has performed very well, and really it’s quite easy to hazard a guess as to why this has been the case…
Over on Forbes we published a useful article called “The Truth About Replica Watches.” You may or may not know that I write about watches and luxury regularly over on Forbes.
To read the reports from SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horologerie) or the latest auction headlines, you would think that watch collecting is the preserve of the super-rich. Prices with four, five or even six zeros seem to be the norm and those non-millionaires amongst us can feel reduced to observer status only.
Valentine’s Day can be a brutal shopping experience and sometimes us guys even forget about it until the last minute. If you totally forgot about Valentine’s Day or need to repair a botched attempt, we’d like to discuss a few interesting women’s watches of various prices that should help clear things up.
