My destination was the 2013 SalonQP fine watch exhibition, held between the 7th and 9th of November, in the Saatchi Gallery in the fabulous city of London…

SalonQP 2013: A Most Personal Exhibition Of Fine Watches, Remarkable Brands And Astoundingly Difficult Crafts
Is Apple planning to use sapphire crystal for the iWatch? What about other devices such as the iPhone (that already uses some sapphire crystal parts)? We know Apple is working on a watch, but no one is quite clear on what it will look or be like. We’ve written about the iWatch almost a year ago predicting its release before there was even confirmed news about it.
Instagram advertising was bound to happen sooner or later. What? Did you think that for-profit Facebook (Instagram owner) intended for it to be without a revenue stream forever? About four days ago the first ever advertisement showed up for many Instragram user in their feed from user “michaelkors,” and it was a picture of a watch.
Every year watch lovers and collectors in the Midwest look forward to the Watch Fair at Wixon Jewelers in Minneapolis, MN. The event brings together some of the top Swiss watch brands under one roof to offer special pricing and display an extended selection of these highly revered collections…
October 10-13, 2013 is the inaugural “Festival of Watches” event in Beverly Hills, California. Los Angeles has sorely needed a decent watch event and this is a good start. The Rodeo Drive chamber of commerce in collaboration with a range of watch boutiques will have some special events, open store hours, and watches during the festival period…
For the second year, aBlogtoWatch traveled to Hong Kong to attend the 2013 Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the event is a unique mixture of private and public interests whose main goal is to facilitate business, trade, and opportunity. As an American, it was interesting to see such an effort on actually facilitating business and networking as producers and retailers come together to do business.
We know that smartwatches are definitely an in thing (and if you don’t, here are some of our articles on the topic), and of course Swiss-made watches are something we’re all keenly aware of. To-date though, those have been mutually exclusive descriptors. And that makes sense, as smartwatches are generally full of radios and other bits of silicon – not exactly conducive to something mechanical. Hyetis is looking to change that.
The smart watch segment is certainly heating up, and Kickstarter is making some of these projects easier to come to fruition. In this article, we’re taking a look at one of the latest crowd-funded darlings that will let you channel your inner Dick Tracy…
aBlogtoWatch will return to the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair this September to once again explore the world of watches from a more Eastern perspective. The largest show of its kind, the Hong Kong watch show is an amazing “Timepiece Extravaganza” (their words) that better reflects the broader watch market compared to the mostly high-end demographic that we tend to focus on when covering Baselworld or SIHH.
It’s an unfortunate fact that the world of watches is fundamentally geared towards those who have the ability to see. Eone Timepieces is looking to change that with the Bradley, a watch designed to be read in a tactile manner regardless of your ability to see the watch.
Several days ago something of great importance to the global luxury watch industry happened in Beijing. On July 6th, 2013 Switzerland and China signed a bilateral free-trade agreement. A historic move, it is the first agreement of its type between China and a European country, and the deal was motivated on the Swiss side by the interests of the watch industry.
The Swiss National Council approved by way of a 124 against 67 majority vote that the minimum share of Swiss value for industrial products has been raised to 60%, up from about 50%.
For our aBlogtoWatch coverage of Baselworld 2013 watches and other new products, we are going to follow in our own footsteps, based on what seemed like effective coverage of SIHH 2013. What does that mean? Well, starting this year, we thought it would be interesting to focus first on covering those products…
We fully support the mission of the National Association Of Watch And Clock Collectors (NAWCC), which is to spread the word about watches (and clocks) and get more people interested in them. On May 18th in Ohio they are having their North Coat Regional Watch and Clock show. Basically go there to buy, sell, and appreciate lots of different watches and clocks.
Those of you who read the Wall Street Journal may have received your annual Watch supplement with your paper last Friday for the weekend. The supplement on watches is related to the Madison Avenue Watch Week in New York, and I was proud to have contributed the lead article on watch collectors.
The LGI operated watch collector survey that we discussed last month will very soon be coming to a close. We recommend that all collectors check it out and participate if they are interested in the results. LGI has agreed to share the survey findings with all the participants who qualify and take the survey.
