Erwin Sattler Thesaurus – Ultimate Watch Lover’s Desk

Erwin Sattler Thesaurus - Ultimate Watch Lover's Desk Luxury Items

OMG, how did I miss this release last year!? I recently learned about the Erwin Sattler Thesaurus desk, and my horology gland nearly burst. OK, so this is the ultimate watch lover's desk. It combines a pair of Erwin Sattler Rotalis winders that pop out of the surface of the desk " take-over-the-world villain" style, and drawers that store you watch related loot.  I have no idea why it is called the "Thesaurus," but I will need to one help explain how awesome this thing is.

Part of what makes it awesome is just how utterly impractical it is. To have enough room in one's home for a desk solely dedicated to their watches takes a lot of dedication (which I guess I personally have), and a lot of (I mean a lot) money. Not only is the Thesaurus likely to be ungodly expensive, but to have enough nice watches to fill it with, and some empty space in your home that is dying for watch dedicated furniture. At this point you probably have taken your watch collecting to legendary levels. And yet we still want one - I think I need some bigger advertisers.

Erwin Sattler makes watch winders, watch furniture, and also watches. I last wrote about the Erwin Sattler Trilogie that combines a clock and a watch winder, and includes a watch. You can see that same type of design aesthetic here. The idea seems to be "neo-classic furniture looks better with hidden gears." The Thesaurus desk is 166cm wide, 84cm deep, and 74cm tall. It is made from high-end aged wood, and the black elements have 13 layers of black varnish on them. The desk drawers are lined with alcantara leather (no slip).

When you want to really impress guests, you use the included remote control to reveal the winding watches. The pair of Rotalis watch winders (total capacity for eight watches) come out of the desk. Another command allows you to active 16 LED lights that shine on the watches. Pretty cool stuff. Rotalis watch winders are made by Beluwo for Erwin Sattler I believe. They are powered by a wall socket so you can plug in the desk. They also have a USB connection so that you can program the winding if you like (for different watches) - but that is optional. Each of the two winding units has its own USB connection.

While the desk is beyond cool, and for the watch lover who literally has almost everything, it is gonna be just one area to store watches. With just eight winders, and space for a limited (although high) amount of watches in the drawers, this is gonna be for pieces you want to play with a lot - and the rest are gonna be in a safe. Another question for some is how safe the desk is from intruders. Hopefully the drawers lock, and the contents inside the Thesaurus are safe from wandering hands that might take interest with your belongings when you are not around. It is for this reason that I don't have a shoe box labeled "gold" laying around. While this desk is incredibly cool, it might draw unwanted attention given its exclusive purpose to store expensive items. Price? Not quite sure. But from now on don't neglect picking up $100 dollars bills you see laying on the street when trying to save up for this uber furniture from Erwin Sattler.

Maybe you should try and contact Dr S Slavis of Las Vegas as he apparently has one of these.

Only that 1% of obscenely wealthy need apply.

The MSRP/list price is 59,000 euros. That translates to approx. $77,000+ USD. DISGUSTING!!!

    • Nico

where did you find a price of usd 77.000,00 for this disk??

Actual USD price as far as i’m aware is $124,700

  • Wow – neat idea. So other than the pop-up winders,
the “same” thing can be had with a few custom drawer inserts. Might just have to do this.

At last, a desk that is not covered with computers, telephones, TVs and other useless technology, I applaud!

  • You can’t tell me you guys like this thing. Please leave the furniture design to furniture designers. This is one cheesy, clunky, unrefined, amateurish effort. If you want to do it right pay homage to Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann, or Josef Hoffman. better yet for a desk technically worthy of a great watch hire Renzo Piano.

    • It is what the desk represents and does which makes me like it, not necessarily how it looks.

  • Wait is that a Mobiado Professional 105GMT Gold Discovery Phone in the upper left drawer!

    • Don’t say such things! lol

  • Kris C.

Neato – I’ll take 2 – one for me home and official office. I’m sure the price will be economical enough.

@ Rocky: what world do you live in where computers and phones are useless technology? I’d like to (briefly) visit.

  • Rocky

    Kris C,

Recently I retired for a second time and furnished a condo second home with no TV, land-line, or desk PC. My cell-phone is turned of and this laptop is for sports scores and a few blogs. I can walk to a sports bar to watch a game.

Obviously my isolation will not last but I can enjoy it for a while.

  • I actually like this desk; looks classy.

    (but I’m weird like that)

  • I can appreciate the “complications” in what the desk does. But, shouldn’t it do both, work beautifully and be beautiful? Maybe it could be like a great watch..Patek Philippe, Panerai or Paul Picot
