Giveaway: Nixon Steelcat Watch

Giveaway: Nixon Steelcat Watch

Nixon, the California-based watch brand, wants a lucky aBlogtoRead.com winner to wear a Steelcat timepiece for the rest of the summer. The Steelcat is a large 48mm wide, steel cased watch available in three styles. Inside the watch is a Swiss quartz chronograph movement which also has the date. According to Nixon, the Steelcat is made for the "waterman's life." Funny since steel sinks and cats tend to dislike water. Though as a diver, it is water resistant to 300 meters so perhaps sinking is a good thing. It certainly has a fun surfing flair to it. Attached to the watch is a custom silicon strap. Price is $600 - $650 depending on the style. Winner gets their choice. Enter for a chance to win one below.

It will be the Audermars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore when going to the beach or just to chill at the pool. When going for a swim I rather take the Rolex submariner. On a boat I would go with the A. Lange & Söhne Moonphaser, which is my favorite one. But the boat has to be yacht, otherwise the L&S won’t be the good choice, for on a small speedboat or sailing boat I would rather go with the Rolex Daytona

G-Shocks are pretty great for the beach.

Beach – Nixon Don – yeah old school!!!! Less of a tan line and holds up a beating
Boat – I rock my Banks to look my best
Water – I do not really wear a watch while swimming… Large Aeris t2 Elite while scuba diving though…

On a side note I love my Banks… Great while traveling with the dual timezone (use it alot), and always get compliments on it.  Almost as much as my Duke and Big Rig.

I have pricier watches, but for some reason my Nixons are almost always a go to.

For the beach/water/boats, I prefer to swap out my leather strap for the fine rubber one on my Panerai Luminor Marina.  Taken that watch to Cabo many time and it has served me well.

I usually wear my Luminox colormark when going wakeboarding.

I use an older Omega as my daily watch – it is virtually indestructible. This might be a nice change of pace: I really lke the black face.

  • punzyk

I like to wear my Magrette Regattare Bronze to the beach, or if I plan to get wet, my Christopher Ward C60 Trident GMT.

  • AlexKanter

My Seiko Kinetic Diver is the best watch for the beach or anything else for that matter.  My most versatile watch.

  • NicholasK

I like to wear my Nixon “The Cannon” to the beach or in the water.  Would love this addition to my current Nixon.  Especially the gold and black one ;-).

  • typericey

The Rolex Deepsea is my go to watch when my day involves getting wet. Yeah I know it’s overkill, but I don’t have any other diver’s watch right now. The Nixon Steelcat would be a good addition to my collection as a more modest “beach buddy.” Of the three versions, the rose gold is my choice.

  • Henry Miller

I would wear my trusted Pepsi Mako Orient and when I’m old enough I hope to pull off a Breitling Superocean 42 Orange or a Omega Seamaster 300m chrono diver 😉
However I would be very much looking forward to wear the white Steelcat on my next dive trip to Bali …

  • wandimarco

i like casio G-shock, its got rubber body, and got loads of good feature, and cheap too, so if anything happen to it while i’m having fun on the sunny beach or sea, i wouldn’t be to sad about it, just buy a new one

I generally use a Citizen eco-drive skyhawk in black so when your deep diving the watch face is clearly illuminated. But a rubber strap is really what you need to stop any grit or sand from getting stuck into the watch and damaging your timepiece.

  • ArmandVartanian

I usually dont wear a watch on the beach, as 1- I don’t want to have on my skin a white shade of a watch, and 2 – I don’t want to ruin it.
This said… any plastic watch will do. Probably Swatch, for the look.

    On water… a G-Shock Frogman from Casio.

I wear my citizen skyhawk AT just about everywhere, including on boats and the beach. These Nixon watches look great and the black on black one is dead sexy.

  • Apnea

I mostly wear an older Rotary Chronospeed. Reasonably water resistant, affordable and above all just a fun watch for messing around in the water with.

  • Zarik

I’d go for the Casio G-8000F that I’m wearing right now! Nixon also makes pretty cool watches that one can trash around without too much guilt.

Either my Omega Seamaster (nice outings) or an old Tag Formula 1 for when I’m getting in the sand! Love the all black Nixon very stealthy!

  • applebeezy

Depends on the activity, but generally my luminox colormark. I like the lightweight watch & rubber strap around the water. Don’t need sand getting wedged in between the links of a bracelet. And the lighter watch won’t sink as fast if it happens to come off.
But if I’m underwater dredging, I go for my beater casio pathfinder.

    Greetings,
Around, in and under water I wear an Ocean7 LM5 or an Omega Seamaster Pro. These Nixon Steelcats appear to be both brawny and beautiful. At 48mm they are sure to make an impact on the wrist of a proud owner and, upon the watch admiring public who will want one as well. I woluld relish being one of these.

  • martuki80

My favourite watch to wear to the beach is the nixon steelcat or a G-shock.
    Thanks for this contest!!

  • wyfeofbath

Sure, I’ll wear a steelcat to the beach.  Might be a little large, though….

  • fearlessleader

To the beach & water is any watch I don’t care about destroying (i.e. is easy enough to re-acquire) since it just seems that unless it’s good to 200m it’s too likely to get destroyed.

  • arthur5011

I normally don’t wear watch at the beach. But if you ask me. I would wear Nixon Steelcat if you give it to me..

  • taylor883

    hi Ariel
The Steelcat presents as a great watch and especially the steel case. I have started swimming again in readiness for Summer in Australia and such a watch as the Steelcat would be a great companion. Love the plain face with the cogged bezel making the inner face a more apparent feature

    Thanx Steelcat

  • jimley815

My favorite watch to wear to the beach is my g shock Solar/atomic.  It doesn’t matter if it gets banged up, or a little sand gets on it- it takes lots of abuse and still marches on.

  • MarkFenimore

My go-to watch when water is involved is a Croton Super-C. The Steelcats look great – I’m not sure which one I’d pick if I won but I’d wear it with pride!

  • Backpackerx

My favorite watch to wear on a boat is my Frederique Constant Maxime Manufacture. It’s a classy looking watch and the guilloche dial and polished case really shine in the sunlight.

  • wbilly

I wear a vintage Seiko automatic diver with an orange dial.

I like my Casio Waveceptor watch because it has never failed me in the water.

  • Kris C

    G-Shock, everytime.

  • worldofjimmy

I’ve gone with a simpler watch for the beach lately – the Nike fuel band. Doubles as a watch, and I don’t have to worry about the sand or the water.

  • waetherman

My favorite watch to wear during the summer is actually my Nixon 42-20 Tide watch. It’s one of the only analog tide watches around, and particularly for my summer boating and beach activities, the tide function comes in pretty handy.

  • GabrielBB

My favorite watch to wear to the beach, in the water, or on a boat is Omega Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond edition. But I’ll be happy to wear Nixon Steelcat also. Gorgeous Watch :) thanks for the giveaway.

  • http://www.bootic.com/ RobertoMejia

You can’t go wrong with a Seiko Monster, but If I am doing some heavy duty stuff, it is a G-shock. Those things are indestructible.

  • butterflyrouge

I really really do not have a watch that is safe to wear near water! butterflyrouge(at)yahoo(dot)com

I have two that I take to the water, though most of my collection is OK to swim with.  My Orient Mako and my Victorinox Dive Master 500.  Can’t have too many!

  • GStuck

First watch I wore snorkling was a USAF issue G-Shock.  First watch to scuba dive in was a Tag Heuer quartz 200m Professional(granite dial).   Today my favorite to wear in the water is a Prometheus Jellyfish and Orient Blue Mako.

  • carolyn h

This may disqualify me but when I’m on our sailboat I do not wear a watch or take a phone. I do not want to know what time it is.  Now ask what I wear when swimming…

  • Ghrock

I normally wear a Luminox when working and around water. It just didn’t survive it’s last tour in Iraq. The black Nixon would be an awesome replacement.

  • Raymo407

I have quite a few watches but I wear my swiss legend neptune when i go to the beach.

  • neas2000

Always wanted a Nixon watch and this one looks great. I do a lot of physical work and activities including in the water as I work with a film shoot crew, so this would be great

  • neas2000

Always wanted a Nixon as they are really trendy and this one looks really tough. I work with a film shoot crew and we are in water, in the mountains, doing car shoots, you name it and this would be a great watch.

  • rmiverson

My favorite watch to wear to the beach/on a boat/etc. is my Gunmetal 51-30 PU. Extremely comfy and great style. Coincidentally, I have been lusting after the all black Steelcat since release! Please randomly pick me!!

  • Cjoy

My favorite watches to sport on the beach, water and boat would have to be either the Nixon Lodown or the G-Shock DW-5600MS. Very durable, reliable and comfortable watches.  Now this Steelcat looks insanely awesome and would be a major upgrade from any watch I have ever owned.

  • samumingo

I would say my favorite watch near the water would be a Casio G-Shock, but I would avoid taking any watch to the beach :s

  • Stringzz

My favorite watch to wear in the water is my Panerai Marina 104!

  • FACUNDO

I like to wear the Casio Edifice when I am on a boat.  I prefer my Timex ironman watch when I am in the water, typically swimming.  And I am currently looking for a watch to wear to the beach, mainly for surfing and scuba diving.  I also use my ironman when I am wakeboarding.   I also have a few watches for formal wear and also for work at the office. I hate having multiple watches.  It gets frustrating keeping them running with working batteries and not losing them.  I have been looking for “one watch to rule them all” and ironically I came across the Nixon Steelcat.  However, in all my research online, on the Nixon website, and at the various retail stores that carried Nixon watches, the Steelcat was nowhere to be found.  In addition, there is no customer reviews on the Steelcat, anywhere.  I was so frustrated with my efforts to read up on what people thought of the Steelcat that I finally called Nixon Headquarters down in San Diego.  I spoke with a female customer service representative this afternoon that also had no experience with
customer reviews on the Steelcat.  She was able to review over the specs of the watch but still was not able to tell me any personal or second-hand feeback on the new watch.  All I got out of her was that one of her Nixon venders wears the Black and Gold Steelcat and she thought it was big, flashy, and a really good looking watch.  So, this is how I got to “ablogtoread” looking for some type of review of the Steelcat.  I saw this giveaway and was excited to think I may get my chance to get the watch or at least hear from someone that has it.  If this watch performs and feels as good as it looks then it is a shame that personal positive feedback is non-existent.  Thanks.
    Ryan

This watch looks like a good mix between a functional watch you could wear to the beach and something that looks a little more impressive than a G-Shock. I have a G-Shock and this would be a nice replacement. becuevas@cox.net.

  • dku081

For the beach, I like to wear a dive watch.  It just simply belongs, plus its waterproof to a certain degree.  Besides that, a nice simple Timex on a nato strap does the trick too.

  • JonathanEpp

Well I don’t own this watch, but I suppose it would be the best to wear in the water: Rolex Deep Sea.  Because, you know, when your 4 kilometers under water you need a watch that can handle that pressure.

  • emlevine711

Not a bad time piece to wear at the beach while looking for some females. I’m sue they’ll be impressed by watch if they aren’t already impressed with the bod.

  • agagag

Nixon makes some nice looking watches, including a few high end, fully ceramic, automatic ones.  A bit pricey on the end, however.  At the beach, I would only wear a real beater watch…certain to get scratched there.

  • AaronThompson2

When I’m out on the boat, I like to wear my Invicta 8926ob. It’s the only watch I have that has decent water resistance in case I go overboard while fighting a giant bass!

I think the rose colored Steelcat would look especially good on my wrist when hanging out on dah beach and snorkeling with the fishes!!

  • Sunnymay

Sturdy and the copper one is most striking which is ironic, because I think of striking as a more of a pose or a large clock with a metal hammer like those in town squares.

  • Apdl

I wear my Luminox everywhere because its all I got! I works fantastic but I would like to give a Nixon a shot!

  • atimm

I wear my G-Shock to the beach.  It can take a beating.  However, I would like an analog chronograph and the nixon has a nice minute hand chrono.

  • leicaman

My fav watches to wear in the beach here in Encinitas are Nixon watches! Hopefully Steelcats.

  • manoel00

My fav is my only watch really water-resistant, strong and cheap, efficient: my Seiko “diver’s” ! But it’s not because of its style… unless I got a Nixon Steelcats!

  • GaryGrumble

I actually wear my Omega Speedmaster everyday wherever I go.

    • Robin Henry

@GaryGrumble Gary, my dad bought me an Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph (as worn on the first moon walk by astronauts) in the late 1960s. It was a beautiful watch, but I had it serviced at a big name watch company in Australia and it leaked when I went diving, so it rusted up and I had to throw it out. As I had not kept the service receipt I couldn’t claim anything from the watch firm (a lesson learnt)!

      • GaryGrumble

         @Robin Henry
Dang that is a shame! Alot of the old watches will leak eventually … esp after they have been serviced. Much better to go back to the Mfr to get it done.

My Dad wore a Rolex for 30yrs working as an airplane mechanic! My inspiration!

I always wear a gshock for water related activities. Sorry for not liking on facebook I dont have an account. I have always avoided entering these contests for that reason but I like the styling of this watch watch and thought I would give it a try.

I always wear a g shock for water related activities. Sorry for not liking on Facebook but I dont have an account. In the past I have avoided entering these contests for that reason but really like the look of this watch so I thought I’d give it a try.

Nixon always coming out with deadly new models!  When I’m in the water always wearing my Helson or Orsa.

  • scootermoped308

Nixon’s looking good!  When I am at the beach, I wear my Omega. linabury@hotmail.com

  • d_in_la

Great looking watch. I prefer a rubberized G-shock for most days, but when I need to class it up, I’ll wear an actual divers watch like the Bernhardt Globemaster GMT in orange and blue. (Actually, a watch this blog clued me into!) One of my favs.

  • SteveMaddox

I really like my huge Nixon 51-30 black watch in the summer…

  • GovernorCedricThompson

Hands Down … The Stylish 300 meter Chrono Diver , Nixon Steelcat featuring a domed sapphire crystal and a rubber bezel would be my personal watch of choice for my daily waterman’s lifestyle here in Miami Beach. This Steelcat is no kitten , it is the Real Deal …. governorcedric@gmail.com

  • Robin Henry

wsmarter My favourite beach watch is my Tag-Heuer Professional 1000 diver’s watch which has served me well for 20 odd years. Unfortunately, it’s getting a bit tired and a new Nixon Steelcat would be a wonderful replacement, even though I live a long way from the beach and don’t get there more than two or three times per year.

  • harti361

i use a simple radio controlled citizen eco-drive. i prefer less is more. it only has time, date and chrono. and with eco-drive / radio controlled always exact time.

  • sxzx

As for now it is Victorinox Night Vision II. I would wear IWC Ingenieur Double Chronograph if i could afford it, Corum Admiral’s Cup Challenger 44 with rubber strap looks nice too.

  • jamesosmith

This is my kind of watch, beautiful and American. Would be and honor to wear it to the marina for sailing!

  • dcourtneyc

I wear my Timex Ironman to the beach, but I would prefer this watch.

  • Fenskos

My favorite watch for the high seas is a 42mm Planet Ocean. The bronze finish Steelcat above looks nice, though…

  • kapurkk

I wear an Omega Seamaster to the beach , but would prefer to wear a Nixon to the beach !

  • Denomerdano

I wear a Citizen all black nighthawk to the nautical world.

  • MarkNatm

I love wearing my Vostok Amphibia Reef diver during water related activities. The orange bezel is awesome! Thanks for another great giveaway Ariel.

  • Garvey36

I normally wear a seamaster to the beach.

  • erwanap

I don’t get used to wearing a watch but not until 7 years ago when my favourite watch is my Seiko Super Athlete which has served me well for around 5 years. And then I move along and choose Guess Steel Gun Metal for my daily use. But unfortunately, I’m getting a little bored with it and I think a Nixon Steelcat fastened around my wrist would bring a cheer into my life.

  • IreneCypher

irene.cypher20@gmail.com      My husband wears a Timex and it’s time for a new watch.  He’s a cook and his hands are constantly in water so he needs a good reliable water-proof watch.  A Nixon sounds like a perfect fit.

  • loueichjr

My Hamilton Khaki with black NATO strap works well at the beach.

  • Drone2335

I’m interpreting the question to mean watches I’ve been able to afford for those activities!
Of the ones I have:  Diving: Android 500m SilverJet 45 — I don’t think Android gets their props for design, fit and finish and water resitance.  Of A all my diving watches, this is the one I trust most underwater.  Fit and finish magnificent for the prive, great design.

Beach: my orange, plongeur-modded vintage Seiko 7002.  Don’t trust it under much pressure but it’s got style.

Boat: Croton Vortex Pineapple (lovely design) or vintage Citizen diver on a black/grey NATO strap.

I love some Nixon designs (have wanted a Capital for ages) — and this is one of them!

my favorite watch to wear to the beach was my Seiko Actura Kinetic Chronograph SNL013. it was fun to switch back and forth between the stainless and the resin strap.

I have a nixon 51-30 (black on black) and love the hello out of it!

  • brendaelsner

I just normally wear a cheap brand from walmart when going out to the beach or where ever as I am always afraid I will lose it or destroy it.

My fav watch by far to wear on the beach is my Orient Mako..  Looks the part, lovely movement and keeps time perfectly. The perfect watch in many ways for watch fans who don’t want to take their expensive watches away with them on holiday..

If there is to be water-based activities, I usually reach for one of my diving Seikos (SKX-xxx series mainly) or Casio G-Shock Frogmen. Alternatively, a Citizen Eco-Zilla will be on my wrist.

BTW, congratulations to both Nixon and Ariel for co-sponsoring this giveaway – thank you!

  • Dreadnought

For most potential harsh environments, especially the pool, beach, and on the water, I usually grab my 13-year old Casio G-Shock, but have not been averse to wearing my 10-year old Citizen Nighthawk (the grinding in the whiz-wheel lets you know that there’s grit and grime; water helps cleans off the built up sweat and grime), that has taken a beating in airplanes and on playgrounds with the children and dogs); but still cleans well; bracelet repaired three times.

ODYSSEY JOAILLERIE is a stunning watch.  Watches are a statement about yourself.  Many people have done away with watches and just use their cell phones for the time.  That is a shame, just like print books, technology has changed our way of doing things.  I love technology and have many gadgets myself, but still use a watch and read some books.

    • Robin Henry

@diesel51 I agree. I love my watches and feel naked without them. I strap my watch on as soon as I get out of bed and it never comes off until I go to bed again. Watches began to appeal to me when I was in the air force and had a lovely, big  Jageur-LeCoutre watch on issue.

If I had a Nixon watch, that would be my favorite watchto wear anywhere.

  • karlc

My Rolex Milgauss or my Panerai GMT are seaworthy, but are too nice for the beach.  My Swatch Poisson Rouge has a nice wave motif which would look nice on the beach, but it has not been running very well lately and I can’t find any body who will service Swatch automatics.  A Nixon Steelcat would be a wonderful addition to my collection!

  • Temur Akhmedov

Most would be suprised, but my favourite water-watch are my good old Appella, that I have had for a while now (that are waterproof, but are definitely not a diver’s watch ).
They look good, but most of all, i just cannot stop looking the way they reflect the light – it is simply beautiful.
