Hublot Big Bang Aero Johnnie Walker Whisky Limited Edition Watch

Hublot Big Bang Aero Johnnie Walker Whisky Limited Edition Watch watch releases

Whisky is a big deal in China these days, and apparently the most popular spirit brand in the world is Johnnie Walker. So, with that said, it should come as little surprise that Hublot has created a limited edition set of Big Bang Aero watches in partnership with Johnnie Walker brand whiskies. More specifically, Hublot has produced this timepiece in collaboration with the new "Johnnie Walker House" in Beijing, China. What is a Johnnie Walker House? There are three locations so far outside of Scotland; the idea behind it is to be a bar-style space that is an "ambassador of whisky culture."

Where are the current Johnnie Walker House locations? Two are in China located in Shanghai and in Beijing, and there is one located in Seoul, South Korea. I suppose it pays to be a Scotch Whisky lover in Asia these days. These lifestyle places to enjoy one's favorite spirits are high-class destinations for business people and those looking to become "cultured," because places like the Johnnie Walker House even have classes on how to appreciate Whisky.

Hublot brand lore lovers will find it interesting that Jean-Claude Biver's child actually runs Hublot China. Loic Biver, one of Mr. Biver's children, headed the Beijing event. The limited edition watch may or may not come with a high-end bottle of Johnnie Walker. In fact, if it does not, I think some people are going to be upset. The limited edition timepiece is based on the Big Bang Aero, and features the Johnnie Walker logo on the face, as well as more retro "John Walker & Sons" motif on the rear of the watch.

In black ceramic, the Big Bang Aero Johnnie Walker House Limited Edition timepiece comes in a 44mm wide case and has a skeletonized Hublot HUB4214 automatic chronograph movement. Brown "whisky" tones are matched to the black on the pushers, crown, dial, and of course, strap (which is hornback alligator on a rubber lining). This Hublot. ref. 311.CI.1110.HR.JWB14 will be limited to just 25 pieces, and be available for sale exclusively in China. hublot.com

Face it! All us poor-as-church-mice inverted watch snobs, in our heart of hearts, lust indecently for a gaudy and godless. Hublot, out-of-line- screw heads and all. "Hello everyone, my name is Fraser, and I'm a Hublotic." "Hello, Fraser".

"This Hublot. ref. 311.CI.1110.HR.JWB14 will be limited to just 25 pieces, and be available for sale exclusively in China."

We scoff at this item, and IMO rightly so, but Hublot will sell all of these pieces out very quickly. Frankly, I am will to say all 25 pieces have been pre-sold.

In related news, Swatch introduces plastic watches which honor Two-Buck-Chuck wine. JK of course...

At last, a product tie-in that makes sense! I mean, how would Hublot sell anything if people never got drunk?

"I suppose it pays to be a Scotch Whisky lover in Asia these days."

Well, truthfully, the words is "costs" rather than "pays." The dram is a bit more expensive here - but, thankfully, a good selection is available.

Teachers man meself - and my local bottle shop has it always in stock.

As for the Johnny Walker marque; very successful advert campaign with TV, radio and newsprint featuring lovely commercials and the ever present..."Keep On Walking" hook.

Hulot is very tiresome...IMO.

I like the colour combination and the strap is nice, but at the end of the day it's another one of those cases where the "designer" loaded up the watch in Photoshop and applied the Gradient Map command.  That said, because it isn't all kinds of crazy-looking, I almost like it.

A Wish-key Waatshh Hic! Oops! Excush me, what time ish it? Hic!

Marketing agencies do the silliest co-branding... seriously Hublot would be a great branded watch for Porn Stars, imagine the possibilities.

Brown and black looks so nice together.

Can hardly wait for them to release the Big Bang Franzia.

Did not expect Johnny Walker to cancel their corporate gift order. They were probably shocked by looking at the bill.

Can't blame Hublot for trying to get rid of them. It's only 25 of them.

Now I'm curious where Johnny Walker has placed their next order for promotional products. Swatch?

The name well let's not spend time on that. The watch looks decent to me with good color combination aside that I can't read the time. See for me you have to be able to clearly and quickly read the time. Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode when you make a car reservation you have to hold the car....when you make a watch you have to be able to read the time.

The case back could be better without the JW sticker in the middle something around the crystal back would have been a tad more subtle instead of saying Hublot everywhere.

Well, the safe bet would be people hating it because its a Hublot, and it looks like that's happening.

I'll go with the unpopular vote - all branding aside, I think the watch is great. Love the colourway and overall impression. Again, its just a shame that it has to be co-branded.

Also, as a serious scotch lover, real scotch drinkers don't buy Johnny Walker. Much like I don't get all mumpy and snotty about mechanical vs. quartz, I'm not saying that 'real' scotch HAS to be a single malt, but even in the realm of blended offerings, JW doesn;t rank in my books. You could slap me awake at 3am and ask me for some good blended malts and I'd give you a dozen before I even thought about JW - even the much lauded blue label.

This is just getting silly.  The Hublot Big Bang Aero Johnnie Walker Whisky Limited Edition?  That's a mouthful, and not one that goes down smooth.  What's next?  The Hublot Big Bang Aero Crest Pro-Health Clinical Gum Protection Toothpaste, Invigorating Clean Mint Limited Edition?  Hublot Big Bang Aero Ultra Palmolive Oxy Power Degreaser Dishwashing Liquid Limited Edition?

The cobranding is getting out of hand.  Timepieces + fancy cars, I get that.  Timepieces + beverages, you're straining credibility.

@bnabod  It's a publicity photo... I don't even need to look at it to know the time is 10:10. The same time on pretty much every watch ion every publicity shot ever.

Agreed - on the Whisky issue that is... Hublot is however, horrifically Nouveau Riche.

@SN0WKRASH  I have spent a fair amount of time learning techniques and developing processes to offer some very complicated strap designs to my clients, but Hublot's 'gummy' straps are simply something I cannot accomplish, and they are certainly some of the best OEM straps in the entire watch kingdom. Beautiful gator hides matched, bonded, and stitched so perfectly onto top quality moulded rubber backings is just not feasible in the 100% handmade watch strap world. In my opinion, they are about the best in the business.

@LapYoda waiting for the Hublot Big Bang Dora the Explorer Limited Edition With Backpack - What's inside the backpack? Trial-size Proctor & Gamble products, an iPhone, the latest Disney DVD and a small packet of the newly legalized "Mile High" brand recreational marijuana strain (Colorado residents only, please).

HA! Good one!

@Jonah76  Does "Nouveau Riche" have a new hipster meaning that I'm unaware of? To me, that means that Hublot is 'new money', which only makes sense because, you know, they're a new brand? (in relative terms).

I'm not a history teacher, nor do I wish to be, but MDM was formed in just like 1980 or 1981, and then Biver came along and turned it into the Hublot we know in like 2003 or 2004.

Considering that most other watch brands want to slap you in the face all day with a heritage going back to Noah's ark or the separation of Pangea, I would think that Hubot being called 'Nouveau Riche' should be considered a compliment - Hublot did not inherit this success, they built it themselves.

I challenge any business owner in any industy to claim that they wouldn't wish to enjoy the same amount of success in such a short period of time.

I wouldn't - I am pathetically endowed & have a chip on my shoulder for not being as rich as I'd want :-)

Not a fan of Rolex either...

SuperStrapper
SuperStrapper

@Jonah76  well, I don't want to get into a pissing contest, and I'm sure you're a nice enough guy, but you're basically profiling people based on the watch they buy. Know how many Rolexes get waved around in a similar fashion? Does that then make Rolex the discerning choice for the douchishly rich?

And, I don't know if for fact, but it would be my assumption that Hublot doesn't do too much 'chasing' for this type of co-branding. I doubt they have to beg.

Jonah76
Jonah76

You are, of course, correct - what I should have said was those that purchase such a monstrosity are likely to be Nouveau Riche who, although not exclusively, seek to let the world know how rich & successful they are. This is naff. Hublot will always divide opinion because they chase this celebrity naff ness with their products. Still I'd rather something such as this is made to allow for discussion & opinion. As always horses for courses

@cybermans @SN0WKRASH@Jonah76  Yes, we may have a screw or two loose but it does drive me crazy! To me aligning the screws finishes the watch, when they are all over the place it looks like there is still work to be done or being done.

SN0WKRASH

@cybermans @SN0WKRASH@Jonah76hahaha I'm actually a little shocked that we got a spelling call out before we got the "Please make the screws line up!" comments, so I guess it shows the educated whisky lovers in our audience stayed up later than our  treasured OCD audience segment this time :-) It's all good.
