Hublot US Liberty Bang Limited Edition Watch

Hublot US Liberty Bang Limited Edition Watch hublot

Is this the week of American themed watches or what? Just a few days ago I discussed the Perrelet Turbine XL America, that was a bit of a polarizing piece. Now I present to the Swiss Hublot US Liberty Bang - one of Hublot's latest limited edition Big Bang watches. This watch was unveiled recently in Philadelphia of all places - during the annual award ceremony where the Constitution Center (a non-government organization) gave out its annual Liberty Medal award.

The watch will be exclusively available in the US (duh) and limited to just 100 pieces. The dial of the 45mm wide Big Bang watch has a US flag motif made up of text. That text begins with the preamble of the US Constitution followed by other that as far as I know is not in the Constitution I read. Seems like descriptive text talking about the founding fathers, etc... Still pretty cool. It is interesting from a poetic standpoint to have the flag made up of words, as powerful words were really what we study when discussing the history of the US and its formation. The watch case is in black ceramic and priced at $11,900.

I actually prefer both the HUBLOT and the PERRELET interpretations. I'm not one to wear my patriotism on my sleeve but certainly on my wrist. Both executions are attractive however, for my budget, I'd like the PERRELET version. It's beautifully handcrafted, works like a Perrelet and the price is doable.

I really like Hublot, but sometimes they make it difficult to defend them, which they need because they are so easy for many to throw stones at. This is a disaster, but even if I thought it looked great, why is it $12k? Precious materials? No. Manufacture movement? No. Neat complications? No. Impressive WR rating? No. Not even an extra long power reserve. If you just wanted a watch with a flag on the dial, you could acomplish that for about $3 on eBay.

It's hard to imagine even the most patriotic person wearing that!

Anyone who has ever wanted the Preamble to the Constitution and other factoids gleaned from Wikipeadia on a very expensive and tacky Royal Oak homage now have their watch. I am thinking all 3 of them. Also I am impressed. I didn't think I could ever have any less respect for Hublot and yet they've managed. Kudos for producing something atrocious even by Hublot's standards.

Yeah, Greg, we might be a little harsh with this one. Hublot pieces tend to be polarizing. I'm not a fan of the company, which is frustrating, because I have tremendous respect for Jean Claude Biver.

Tough crowd. I like it, a 'home run' I think it's called in Americanese.

I'll take the Perrelet, please. So they use the backdrop of someone receiving the Liberty Medal to hock this watch. That's tacky. The word vomit on the dial. Is that supposed to mean anything?

Also, the screws on the bezel should line up.

A nice subtle($£&!) effort from Hublot if you're hell-bent on having a flag-themed watch. Well, everything is subtle compared with that Perrelet. Still looks too much like a fashion watch to justify the price.

Way better than the Perrelet, but still not something I (or anyone else I know or can concieve) would buy...

I'm impressed that Hublot managed to make their watches suck even more.
