I was happy to get a note from the winner of the Omega Speedmaster Mark 4.5 vintage watch that I gave away here in January. Looks good for a watch from the 1970s right? Vintage Omega watches have a great tool-watch feel to them and I congratulate the winner. Thanks again to MB&F who sponsored the giveaway. The watch winner preferred to remain anonymous, but did share these thoughts (and also apologized for the photography!):

"Thank you so much aBlogtoRead.com for the opportunity to win this amazing wrist watch. Getting the watch felt like receiving a Christmas gift from my favorite watch website. The first thing that I thought when I held the watch was just how modern it felt. My personal experience with vintage watches has been mixed, but when I saw how nice this Speedy looked I was really surprised. I imagined it would be smaller but it feels just right when it is on my wrist. The dial looks really sharp and is easy to read. It took me a while to notice something very unique about the dial. The ring that has the tachymetre numbers is actually a different layer placed above the dial. On my wrist the Speedy is more comfortable than I expected and I really like how the bracelet fits. If I could give Omega any advice today, it would be to bring back this unique and comfortable watch case shape. I don't want to wear this great watch everyday to prevent scratching it or any damage. When I do wear it for special occasions I will remember that it is the prize member of my modest collection. Thank you so much again and keep up what you do!"

Thank you too, and enjoy it!. Hearing that just might change my position on wanting vintage watches. Thanks for everyone who entered the vintage Omega Speedmaster giveaway, and keep entering future giveaways for your chance to win right here on aBlogtoRead.com.

Congratulations to the winner! And that's cool to have a comment on the watch itself.

Lucky! This may be the winner I'm most envious of: not only is the 4.5 a remarkable and well-executed watch, but to have it serviced by a shop like MB&F makes it really special.

John,

As a lover of the "next best thing" and much that is new, my sights are usually on moderns watches. A lot of vintage pieces to me are bland looking or not as well put together as many of today's watches. Of course there are tons of excellent exceptions - most of which are duly out of my budget.
