Romain Jerome Watches + DeLorean Motor Company Watch Releases

They are coming soon - the Romain Jerome DeLorean DNA watches. Swiss Romain Jerome has partnered with DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) - now based out of Texas - for some interesting new upcoming timepieces. The watches will all share the core Romain Jerome DNA philosophy of honoring fascinating events and items from our history with timepieces that actually each contain trace amount of items from those events. In this case the watches are said to contain sheet metal from the original car bodies.

A pop culture icon solidified for eternity by the 1985 film "Back to the Future," the story of the DeLorean DMC-12 and the company behind it is a fascinating tale unto itself. Existing automobiles are highly collectible and regularly restored. As a car the DMC-12 never quite lived up to its potential due to the failure of the company at the time, but as a design item it almost epitomizes an era. Romain Jerome spent a lot of effort seeking out a partnership with DMC, which recently became a reality. Soon we will be able to see what the Romain Jerome DeLorean DNA watches are all about. Stay tuned.

    Shitty Shitty Bang Bang?

  • Kind cool, looking forward to this one.

Dude, unless it’s ‘DNA’ taken from the car that appeared in the movie that they obviously haven’t licensed and hence can’t mention in the press release, then why bother?
For the price of the watch you could probably pick up a couple of actual DeLoreans and live out your back to the future fantasies to your hearts content. Or are you chicken? 🙂

Typical RJ chest-puffing. I know way cooler movie cars than this.

Don;t get me wrong, this one has a special place, but the “greatest movie automobile legend”? Pfft. Just like my 2-hander with sub seconds and no date containing the DNA of a pizza place I really liked in highschool but was torn down last year is the greatest watch of all time.

Perhaps one of the most dated looking cars there is. It’s assembled from mostly flat sheet metal, and was only cool because in the film it had a time-machine attached to it. What’s next… the RJ “Edsel” edition? Personally I think the RJ “Ron Jeremy” would be cooler.

    • I think you should wait for the final watches before making too many judgments. The watches are about the cars, not the movies. And a lot of us do think they have serious enduring visual value.

It’s an RJ – just how good could it possibly be? That fact actually gives me more concern for how it will turn out than the association with DeLorean. I’d love to be pleasantly surprised but based on all the pieces i’ve seen on this blog, I haven’t been impressed. I know you’re quite a fan, which is fair enough – perhaps you have been able to see some pre-release versions? I’m expecting something “quirky” and unusual, but to me quirky gets old fast, especially if you don’t have a large collection and don’t have the option of swapping to a different watch when you get sick of a particular design. Either way, we shall see what we shall see.

RJ plus DeLorean. I’ll take brands that have been affected by cocaine for a five hundred, Alex.

Okay, so I don’t really think RJ is using coke, but this is definitely an odd pairing. DeLorean fans are a dedicated group. I can’t wait to see what RJ has in the works for this. It may be a lot of things, but it won’t be drab.
