For 2013, the aBlogtoWatch watch gift guide will take the form of an editor’s and contributor’s wish list. Some of the editorial team has gone ahead and chosen a few of the timepieces from last year that are really high on their list. These are mostly newer watches, but ones that should be available for purchase now. So for this holiday season you’ll get a good idea of what we’ve personally wanted, and we didn’t include crazy stuff that no one can get, even if they could afford it.

Girard-Perregaux is about to release a new version of the still new Chrono Hawk called the Hollywoodland. An unofficial homage to the movie making capital of the world, the Chrono Hawk Hollywoodland is the latest effort in the brand’s focus on entering the world of Hollywood. In 2012 Girard-Perregaux announced that it was going to be a sponsor and founding supporter of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures…
Chrono24, in association with their partner Auctionata (both in Germany), will feature a collection of exclusively tourbillon watches next month via a live online-only auction called “The Fascination of Tourbillon – Exclusive Watches.” There will be twenty five lots, including Lot Number 10 which consists of five Glashütte Original Tourbillons that marked their 500 Year Anniversary.
We round off October by paying A. Lange & Söhne a visit, finding out what is Francois-Paul Journe’s grail watch, learning more about Seiko, and checking out new watches from Girard Perregaux, Harry Winston, Panerai and Nomos.
Last December, we announced that Girard-Perregaux had donated a timepiece for a charity auction to support the UKRO (University Kidney Research Organization). The cause? The best. The timepiece? Gorgeous.
For 2013 Girard-Perregaux overhauls the ww.tc collection with a facelift that increases the size of the watch and brings the entire concept more into the brand’s modern era. Compared to the existing ww.tc (world wide time control) collection, this modern incarnation of the classic is welcome, but we wouldn’t strictly call it an upgrade so much as an evolution.
Yesterday in Monaco the Only Watch 2013 auction was held and the results are in. The event is meant to raise money for a medical charity, to which 100% of the proceeds go. Each of the watches submitted are totally unique and donated by the participating brands. People get very interested in the results, as it is not only a sign of the economy when it comes to Monaco’s wealthy elite…
Sad news today as Swiss/French watchmaker Mr. Dominique Loiseau has passed away, Gregory Pons at Business Montres reports. He was just 64 years old. Still relatively unknown to many people, Loiseau was one of the venerable geniuses of modern watchmaking, able not only to restore incredible and complex works from the past, but invent the word’s most complicated watches of today.
Among other things Girard-Perregaux is a dedicated producer of watch movements. In this 1966 collection watch we find a brand new chronograph caliber for 2013. Despite the brand’s penchant for offering wonderfully classic watches, they have been an innovative brand for decades, especially when it comes to movements.
John discusses a Girard-Perregaux Chrono Hawk watch he is reviewing and I discuss a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms that I am reviewing. Which is the better watch? Then we proceed to get into the dirty details of smartwatches and the potential failings of Bluetooth. Of course Casio is about to come out with new Bluetooth watches that may just have us eating our words.
This latest episode of HourTime was recorded as a series of interviews and conversations that occurred while at the aBlogtoWatch event with Girard-Perregaux in New York City. You’ll hear from John, Ariel, and fellow readers.
We would like to remind New York City and surrounding area residents that July 25th is the evening of the aBlogtoWatch & Girard-Perregaux Summer Soiree event at the Girard-Perregaux Boutique on Madison Avenue. The event begins at 6pm and continues at the adjacent Club Macanudo next door at 8pm. We have a bit more room for guests at the boutique, and anyone unable to get a space can join us at Club Macanudo.
Girard-Perregaux is a manufacture with an expansive and respectable history that spans 222 years and counting. The Tourbillon Bi-Axial Tantalum and Sapphire Limited Edition watch is a beautiful addition to the Tourbillon Bi-Axial collection, which in our opinion is one of the most interesting and under-appreciated highly complex watch. This one comes in a solid tantalum case with dial bridges in black sapphire.
The HourTime Show watch podcast is back after some pause and John and I discuss smartwatches with the Sony Smartwatch 2, the Chinese/Swiss free-trade agreement that will heavily impact the watch industry as well as the aBlogtoWatch + Girard-Perregaux event on July 25th, 2013 in New York City.
aBlogtoWatch & Girard-Perregaux invite watch lovers to a July 25th, 2013 event in NYC.
In the sixth edition of our bi-weekly roundup, we revisit Baselworld 2013, tour the Patek Philippe manufacture, check out a cracked Panerai and get upclose with the new Grand Seiko 44GS watch.
