French is a funny language, and I’ll admit that even when translated into English I often have trouble understanding it. That’s because so much of French is about “in-speak,” or otherwise a set of agreed upon meanings to otherwise untranslatable cultural terms. I first began to encounter this while spending a lot of time in France and Switzerland trying to decipher menus are restaurants. There seemed to be a local meaning to terms, so that when translated into English they still didn’t make sense.

Increasingly, watchmakers are trying to reach that important female demographic. Advertising campaigns for much of 2014 for major watch brands will heavily appeal to women, and more and more brands are looking to reach women watch lovers online. I suppose they feel that us men are already well served?
This is Citizen’s first watch that combines solar power with radio-set capability in a women’s watch…
What you see here is a piece unique (one-of-a-kind) version of the Jaquet Droz The Bird Repeater watch. We felt that showing off this particular hand-engraved and diamond-studded version of the piece was a good way to offer a nice hands-on look at the first actual automaton watch from the brand with a very historical relationship to automatons…
Hamilton’s latest Jazzmaster is truly a skeleton watch, not just a dial with some cut outs. This is because the watches (yes, this is a his-n-her’s release) were designed with the intent of showing off their new H-20-S automatic movement. There’s very little in the way of you seeing the actual moving parts at work, and the movement itself has cut outs and finishing (laser-engraved) that lets you know the movement was meant to be seen.
The last really new J12 from Chanel was the Chromatic that aBlogtoWatch debuted to the world here. Back in 2011 when Chanel released the Chromatic it upped the ante for Chanel’s “ownership” of ceramic as a luxury material with the new metallic gray material that mixed ceramic with titanium… In black or white, it was anything but a polarizing design as the J12 is still beloved by many…
Elegance and design don’t have to be expensive. This is the Bulbul Pebble reference P04, from new Danish brand Bulbul. Founder Jacob Juul worked with KiBiSi and Mega Design to produce a finely made quartz watch that was inspired by the shapes of pebbles on a beach.
Most of our readers have probably not heard of the German brand Wempe. A jeweler since 1878 and primarily known as a watch retailer, they added their own watch brand in 2006, under the Zeitmeister line. Nice watches, but little known, especially in the US.
When you think of luxury diving watches, other brands might compete for attention, but the mere mention of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is enough to end all discussion on which is the most important diving watch in history. Which other watch can claim to have laid down the blueprint of what we know as the essential aspects of a diving watch?
While the majority of watches we cover on aBlogtoWatch are for men, we like to discuss quality women’s watches from time to time – the Chanel Premiere being one of them. Being mostly guys, we tend to write about what we ourselves would wear. We’ve nevertheless had a lot of demand for more women’s content, and I personally think it is important to discuss iconic and novel timepieces for women.
Rolex would likely take issue with the fact that we are reviewing both the Datejust II and Day-Date II watches in the same article. Yes, the watches have an abundance of differences, each with distinct options and features such as dials and bracelets. They also have two completely different movements. Nevertheless, both the Rolex Datejust II and Day-Date II…
As we previously announced, Rolex introduced six new Day-Date watches for 2013 at Baselworld. Unfortunately, they didn’t give them unique names (aside from the reference numbers) outside of the standard Day-Date collection, but in our opinion these are special models. When we first saw them in their glorious colors through the windows at the Rolex booth, we immediately dismissed them as fashionable ladies watches…
The Only Watch 2013 charity watch auction which occurs every other year in Monaco is coming up in September of 2013. aBlogtoWatch has created a full list (that we will update as more watches for the auction are released) of all the piece unique (one-of-a-kind) timepieces that will be offered at the event.
This cute ladies watch from Cartier is called the Secret Panda. I don’t use the term “cute” all that often to describe timepieces, but this one certainly is. In all 18k white gold clad in diamonds, black sapphires, and two emeralds for the eyes, this little panda is literally humping the watch…
With the 2013 movie adaptation of The Great Gatsby book being released shortly, we wanted to take a look at some of the best wrist watches from the roaring 20s. The 1920s, in a sense, was the first real decade of the wrist watch. It was when both men and women started to adapt wrist watches over pocket watches. Some of the best brands that make watches today were around back then…
What would BaselWorld be without high end divers? Luckily, thanks to brands like Blancpain, we don’t have to find out. Blancpain has introduced the Bathyscaphe, a new model for their legendary and long-standing Fifty Fathoms range.
