The long anticipated new Omega Planet Ocean GMT is here for 2013. Before settling into being a major part of the Seamaster Planet Ocean collection, Omega has debuted the Planet Ocean GoodPlanet GMT, as part of their collaborated efforts with the Good Planet Foundation environmentalist initiative.
Omega is clearly prepared for BaselWorld 2013 and has announced three new limited edition models in advance of the show, which takes place in April of this year. The first of their announcements is the Constellation Sedna, a ladies’ sized Constellation crafted from a new alloy which Omega calls Sedna.
Adam Optican wants an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean so badly he wrote a song to the beat of its Omega in-house made calibre 8500 Co-Axial movement. The song is a fan redo of the 2012 James Bond 007 Skyfall movie theme. This is of course appropriate because Omega is the official watch of James Bond, […]
With the latest James Bond film “Skyfall” hitting US theaters on November 9th, 2012 Omega has announced a new limited edition model to tie in with the 23rd installment in the franchise. This is distinct from the Omega 50th anniversary of James Bond 007 movies watch. The announcement of the new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M […]
For 2012 Omega released a new 18k red gold version of the Seamaster Planet Ocean three-hand and chronograph models with a new type of “Ceragold” bezel. Ceragold is more or less the gold version of Liquidmetal (that I discussed in more detail here). It is a special process that Omega uses to inset gold in […]
I recently learned an interesting fact regarding the history of the Omega Seamaster collection. The Seamaster and Seamaster Planet Oceans that we know today are hardy tool watches suitable for diving, James Bond, and overall feeling like high-function instruments that is made really well…
A medium-sized speed boat motors us away from Naples and it is hot. The ancient city I am moving away from is colorful — but that describes most of Italy. Italy is vibrantly alive, dirty, and passionate. It is also serious watch lover territory. I am pretty sure this is where large watches got their […]
The modern arms race with watches isn’t about gears and pinions, but rather materials. It may appear that brands are hot on beating each others’ movements but they know that such a war would be a joke. The race for the most accurate movement slowed to almost a halt when quartz watches hit the scene, […]
In addition to the new for 2011 Speedmaster Co-Axial Chronograph Automatic watch, Omega offers a new Planet Ocean Seamaster Co-Axial Chronograph Automatic watch with the new in-house Omega caliber 9300. There is also a three-hand Seamaster which also has in-house made Omega caliber 8500 automatic. These new pieces are fantastic, and show just how dedicated […]
Why on Earth Omega would call a ceramic bezel “Liquidmetal” is a mystery to me (see update below). It not only is ceramic not liquid, but it isn’t a metal. Well, it is liquid-like when being formed, but you get the idea. Ceramic as used on watches is actually made from glass as I understand […]
What drives my passion for watches is not only the representation of time – and the complications – and the intricate dials – but the faces of those who feel the same. Especially when you get them talking. No matter what they do for a living, or who they are day to day, their interest […]
