Romain Jerome’s “DNA” watches have been inspired by fascinating events and achievements from human history, regardless of whether they happened on land, at sea or in the skies. What made the DNA watches famous is the fact that when making the case, the dial, or sometimes even the strap, they used materials closely related to these events. This made the stories feel much more tangible and helped to bring the concept to a more personal level.

The Moon Orbiter watch is completely out of this world and that is just how Romain Jerome likes it. I was sitting with Romain Jerome’s CEO recently in Las Vegas while we sipped on drinks as we was going through the final testing of the Moon Orbiter whilst wearing it on his wrist.
Be it space or spaceship, the watches below are some of the coolest modern watches which honor or make actual use of elements far from the Earth. Imaginative watchmakers use meteorite dials or design their cases and movements to look like spaceships. We love this stuff and as traditional as watchmaking is, these timepieces are directly inspired by science and science fiction…
This watch is the Romain Jerome Space Craft and like most things traveling in space it is a lone object which arrived from a mysterious place.
Early in 2012 I first set my hands on a new Romain Jerome Steampunk Chrono and instantly started to like it… much more than the “Steampunk” watch that came before it. I really fell in love with the little spinning ship propeller on the dial.
In honor of the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday known of course as Dia de los Muertos, Swiss Romain Jerome watch will produce two limited edition timepieces. There isn’t too much to say about the new watches aside from describing them as they inherently are merely new dials for the brand.
The DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) slogan was “Live the Dream.” That dream lasted from only 1981 to 1983, but left a huge impact on pop culture. Now a limited edition watch by Romain Jerome attempts to bring back some of the magic.
Romain Jerome’s relationship with classic video games continues with their newest watch in honor of PAC-MAN. Namco’s (today Namco Bandai) PAC-MAN arcade game is probably one of the most recognizable video games in history and originally came out in 1980. Following the success of the Space Invaders watch (hands-on here), Romain Jerome will soon release this […]
At the Baselworld 2011 watch show, Romain Jerome showed a new dive watch called the Octopus (here). It was to be part of the Titanic DNA collection, and the brand’s first true diver. It actually never came out that year. At the 2012 Baselworld show, Romain Jerome returned with another Octopus watch, the piece was […]
The newest “DNA” watch collection from Romain Jerome will be the Liberty DNA timepieces. These watches will each incorporate some metal from the actual Statue of Liberty, and feature a unique design meant to honor the statue while not simply featuring imagery from it on the case and dial. Do you see something a bit […]
Last year Romain Jerome announced a licensing agreement with Taito Japan to bring the world Space Invaders themed wrist watches. I wasn’t allowed to show images of the actual watches, but now I can. Few people are ever going to see these watches, but they are worth knowing about – at least from a watch […]
The newest high-end wrist watch from Romain Jerome is another version of their Titanic DNA and tourbillon collection. The naming of the brand’s watches has gotten shorter over the years which is a good thing, but the DNA hasn’t changed. I appreciate that the name of the watch is just the “Romain Jerome Chrono Tourbillon.” […]
They are coming soon – the Romain Jerome DeLorean DNA watches. Swiss Romain Jerome has partnered with DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) – now based out of Texas – for some interesting new upcoming timepieces. The watches will all share the core Romain Jerome DNA philosophy of honoring fascinating events and items from our history with […]
We discuss the necessary topic of how to spot a fake watch, and video game watch partnerships and the Romain Jerome Space Invader limited edition timepiece. Along with more. Listen to the HourTime Show watch podcast episode 71 here. Download the MP3.
It takes a lot for a timepiece to be truly controversial. I am not just talking about people arguing whether a design is pretty or not…
The best part of these timepieces is easily the box. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures, but Romain Jerome showed me a sneak preview of the Space Invaders watches back in March. The idea is to recall some of the fun and playfulness, as well as the novelty of the late 1970s video game. The […]
