The Overseas family of watches from Vacheron Constantin has always been synonymous with travel and a high-class adventure. This year at SIHH 2019 Vacheron Constantin has announced two new versions of their Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin. These new versions add a couple different dial, case, and strap/bracelet configurations; the most notable being the solid gold with a silver-toned dial on a solid 18k gold bracelet and my favorite, a dark almost navy blue dial in an 18k pink gold case on a blue alligator strap. Both of these watches take advantage of the remarkable ultra-thin perpetual calendar movement Calibre 1120 QP/1 allowing them to have a case thickness of merely 8.1mm. The perpetual calendar movement is made up of 276 components and squeezed into a space no more than 4.05mm thick–all the while offering a 40-hour power reserve and not requiring any calendar adjustment until the year 2100. These watches also feature integrated strap/bracelet options.

Analysis

These watches add an element of class and pizazz to the Overseas lineup that you might not feel it was missing, but once you see all the models together, they just fit. When Vacheron first released the Overseas Perpetual Calender Ultra-Thin in 2016 your only options were 18k white gold if you wanted a bracelet or silver dialed version on the Alligator a year later in 2018–so what this 2019 release does is give you the opportunity of a blue dial on alligator (my preference) or silver dial on a new solid pink gold bracelet at a somewhat hefty $17.5k premium. It’s still good to see Vacheron Constantin exploring this complication with more options and configurations. Fingers crossed for a steel version someday…

Conclusion

As stated above this is an apt move on the part of Vacheron allowing for more choice and diversity in their highly complicated Overseas pieces. The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is available in two versions: Blue Dialed on Alligator for $75,000, and Silver Dialed with a solid Pink 18k Gold Bracelet & including the Alligator for $92,500–both versions include a rubber strap.
