Watch What-If: Rolex Submariner

Watch What-If: Rolex Submariner

"Watch What-If" is a special column on aBlogtoRead.com that asks the playful question "what if an iconic watch you know and love was offered in a different style?" The idea embraces a good timepiece's core design and has fun by offering new colors and material concepts to stimulate your senses. These ideas may be provocative, artistic, or just plain silly. This is about fun, Photoshop, and the celebration of wrist watch design and experimentation. The original design we work off will always be at the bottom of the article. Ideas and comments are more than welcome. Enough response may even lead to a round two of design. You are also encouraged to suggest watches that make it into the Watch What-If section here on aBlogtoRead.com.

I think the Rolex Submariner silver monotone and the black dial watches are beautiful time pieces are beautiful. They are both on my christmas list this year. I hope I score at least one of the two.

The black and yellow PVD submariner is amazing, I wish that watch existed. It reminds me of the Pittsburgh Steelers! The first watch the all stainless or white gold model could probably be custom designed by Swiss jewelers. http://www.replicagod.com

Bamford & Sons' and Project X's Rolex DLC customisations are very popular and for good reason - they are awesome. I wonder if Rolex will buy them out like Mercedes did AMG, or just offer the service themselves. They really should...

It's high time Rolex gets a little "louder" with design, and shake a bit of that stodgy image...a new slogan for sales that would be an attention grabber..."Run Buck Naked Wild"...The New Rolex !!!! CEO's everywhere would be clutching their collective chests :)

Well that was certainly in the Thanksgiving Spirit...I'll take a black and yellow one with carbon face and titanium bracelet...preferable on a Daytona....I'd also like a Bugatti Veyhron, same color please...

This reminds me very much of Hublot and the way they make the big bang in all sorts of combinations. Initially I though they were reproductions but they were not. You can get the same effect as above by going to google image search and clicking on the colour buttons on the left:

As to the Rolex, how about a 45mm LV sub with a thinner body but keep the bezel the same width. Maybe in Ti with the CF face like above. Maybe a matching Ti grey ceramic band with a a glide-lock clasp.

This is a watch I generally think is about as overhyped and overpriced as they come - it was just in the envoius position of being in the right place at the right time first. It would not make my top 100 list of watches I'd like to own that I don't currently.

That being said, the carbon fiber dial with yellow accents is pretty neat. Too bad Rolex would never be that contemporary.
