1. HYT H1 and H2 Hydro Mechanical Horological Timepieces – A Short Pictorial Review

HYT H1

HYT is one of the most interesting and exciting brands to burst onto the horological scene in the past few years. In 2012, the company announced its arrival with the H1, which was the first watch in the world to tell time using liquid. A year on, they released the H2, proving that the H1 was not some horological fluke. Uniqueness and distinctiveness are two qualities I highly admire in a brand delving into the realms of haute horology and HYT has them in spades.

4. Timepieces That Connect With a History of Exploration

Saunders Bremont

As man explores the heights and depths of the world, he or she has always been accompanied by a wristwatch. A Rolex Explorer was on the wrist of Sir Edmund Hillary when he became the first man to reach the top of Mount Everest; and an Omega Speedster accompanied Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin has they landed on the moon 45 years ago. Even today, wristwatches continue to accompany modern day explorers. An example is Ben Saunders, who wore a Bremont Terra Nova as he retraced the route taken by Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his companions in 1911 on their ill-fated Terra Nova expedition. Find out more about wristwatches and their relationship with explorers, and why they continue to be important to exploration in this article.

5. Hands-On With The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph Carbon

AP Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph

Audemars Piguet is a brand that is never afraid to be unconventional and different, even if it means breaking the mold and going against all rules. The new Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph Carbon is one of those watches. Though it resembles a typical Royal Oak Offshore, the dial configuration is highly unusual because of its tourbillon, and most of all because of its peripheral rotor. Furthermore, the case is made out of carbon composite and the bezel, pushers, and crown are crafted out of ceramic, which gives the watch an even more outlandish look. Even in the world of Offshores, this one completely takes the cake.

6. Why I Bought It: Breguet Classique Chronométrie Reference 7727

Breguet Classique Chronometrie 7727

I love Quill & Pad’s “Why I Bought It” articles and GaryG is obviously a very fortunate man for being able to own so many interesting pieces. His latest acquisition is Breguet’s Classique Chronométrie Reference 7727, which is a watch that sits high on my own “want-but-could-never-afford” list. Don’t be fooled by its classic looks, it actually features a very high-tech movement that uses silicon components and even magnets to enable it to beat at a very high 10Hz. Hear it from the man himself about why he got this watch.
