Here, watchmaker Michel Boulanger is be mentored by watchmaking legends Philippe Dufour, Robert Greubel, and Stephen Forsey in the ways of making a watch by hand, using traditional methods. It is hoped that Boulanger will then be able to pass down the knowledge he has acquired to a new generation of watchmakers. Though the Lange 1 by A. Lange & Söhne is one of the brand’s more accessible pieces, this particular model is special for a number of reasons. To begin, it’s made out of honey gold, an alloy of 18k gold that is specific to the brand. It has a unique shade of pink that’s in between rose and yellow gold, and perhaps more importantly, has a hardness rating of over 300 Vickers – significantly higher than most other gold alloys.
