Thanks to the international expansion of the Bucherer brand, Carl F. Bucherer watches are enjoying a stronger high street and mall presence than ever before. As a result, the Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback Rose Gold watch, an updated version of a classic model we also looked at in 2016 with a white dial, is likely to benefit.

Analysis
Consumer confidence is low in Bucherer’s newer territories. Every new release has to be on the money. Thankfully, the Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback Rose Gold does not disappoint. By exercising laudable restraint, the design team have produced a watch that boasts a satisfying complication, wrapped up in a cohesive aesthetic package. Red accents on the dial blend well with the deep rose gold of the case, adding enough dynamism to underpin the sporty vibes of the flyback without being too crass. The contrasting silver of the going seconds sub-dial and thirty-minute counter round out a very suave piece, which is delivered on a Kudu leather strap.
Greater Kudu are a type of large antelope prevalent in South Africa. They are not reared in captivity so all Kudu leather comes from government sanctioned hunting to control overpopulation. The leather itself has a delicate pebble grain and often bears the scars sustained during life in harsh bushland. The suede, however, is incredibly fine and consistent in texture. It is a beautiful material aesthetically, whatever you make of its ethicality.
Conclusion
I’m rarely excited by this brand, but the Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback Rose Gold has won me over. It was a smart move to utilize one of CFB’s in-house engines rather than a modified stock caliber. The overall design is strong and the colours and textures work brilliantly together.
The result is handsome, and the restrained design and smart use of colour shows a great maturity. I’m a sucker for a flyback from a technical perspective, and the column wheel movement is nicely finished. The price is yet to be confirmed. If the previous iteration’s cost is anything to go by it will be a couple of grand north of $20,000. It’s got some stiff competition in that bracket, but for a seasoned collector looking to get in on a brand on the cusp of global growth, it’s a handy option. Learn more at carl-f-bucherer.com
