Watchismo.com, the very popular and influential watch website and blog now offers us some very special watches. For a long time, Watchismo was adept at telling you about great watches, but you’d be lucky to find them anywhere. Luckily, you can now find some right there. Watchismo offers timepieces from his personal collection, along with retro cool watches from a variety of makers. My favorite in particular are the LIP watches.
LIP watches have been around for over 100 years, but you probably haven’t heard much of them. They belong to the design orientated French crowd of watch makers, who always have interesting and artistic offerings. LIP’s claim to fame was their clever contracting with popular designers of the day to create watch designs totally unheard of before. At that time during the 1960’s and 1970’s the world seemed bent on traveling to the future with greater haste by designing everything to be “futuristic.” Utilizing new materials such as plastics and other synthetics, futurism was born, and watches like the LIP Mach 2000 series emulate it perfectly. The result was an era of design and style unlike anything the world had seen before, and the look is coming back with a vengeance.
Today, LIP has reintroduced many of its most popular watches. These are new watches, using designs from the 1960s and 70s. I love the looks of these watches. There is something so typically French about their simplicity and function. On the Mach 2000 models you have an asymmetrical face with large ball pushers and a crown. You might think that this watch takes avant garde to a new level, but look at what came after it. Such high profile watch makers such as Alain Silberstien and Ikepod have all taken significant design elements from the style that the LIP watches are based upon.
The LIP lines of watches available on Watchismo represent the best of what LIP has to offer and should cater to many tastes, even though who are not per se “into watches.” Anyone who enjoys something different, something retro, modern art, or simply a highly functional timepiece will appreciate these LIP watches. I tip my hat to Watchismo for making them available.
