Marvin m109544351_w watch

I swear, this watch has no real name, just “model m109.14.43.65.” That looks almost like an IP address. Marvin refers to it as part of the M109 collection. So for the purposes of this article, I will just call it the Marvin watch or M109 (even though there are other M109 watches in various colors and styles). They should have called it something cool like the “Squaropolis.” Yea, I just made that name up. The company shares the story of many current watch companies: it started a long time ago (1850). Died, then came back via a name purchase. This was about a year ago, and the company was wise enough to have a wide enough range of prices to make them accessible. Their watches are prices from about $400 – $4000, and they offer both men’s and women’s watches with mechanical or quartz movements.

This particular Marvin watch is pretty cool, with a nice design. Actually, the design is mostly Bell & Ross (dial and numeral design), Glycine (compare logos, even though the Marvin and Glycine logo are both older, not sure which one came first), and Fortis (Square watch). That is OK though, as clever conglomeration is always appreciated. I’d gladly wear this watch often. The case is polished  with nice screws in the dial corners and gently faceted hands. The case has alternative polish and satin finishing.

Inside is an automatic Sellita SW200 movement which is basically an ETA 2824 (exact copy). The movement in oriented in such a manner than the escapement wheel is visible through an open window on the face. This popular trend has always been nice to look at. Think of it as a poor man’s tourbillon window. The M109 has a 41mm x 41mm case that comes in both PVD treated rose gold plated steel and polished steel, with calf leather straps or matching metal bracelets that are designed nicely. It has a sapphire crystal as well.

Marvin watches are sadly not yet available in the US, but I am sure they will be eventually. If you are in Europe or parts of Asia, you should certainly find one and pick it up, given their haute looks and value pricing.
