Vacheron Constantin Unveils Overseas Self-Winding Watch In Pink Gold Watch Releases

Amid all the releases emerging from Watches & Wonders Shanghai 2020, one of the clearest trends has been the pairing of rose gold or pink gold cases with blue dials. When done right, it can be a showcase for both dramatic high contrast and luxurious materials work, and several brands have already shown variations on the theme since the trade show’s opening. One of the highest-profile entries into this burgeoning segment comes from Vacheron Constantin, which brings this sumptuous high impact combination to the three-hand integrated bracelet Overseas with a new pink gold case. While this is not the first time pink gold has been used in the Overseas series (a pair of pink gold Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin variants were released back in April 2020), the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Self-Winding in pink gold handsomely brings this color combination to the centerpiece of the line.

The 41mm case of the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Self-Winding uses 18k 5N pink gold, which from initial images seems to toe a middle ground between more common rose or red gold and classic yellow gold. It looks to be a more delicate, blush-like tone that helps to highlight the brushed finishing on the main case body. Outside of the new material, this case maintains all the hallmark elements of the Overseas series, such as the unique gear-like bezel, the integrated lugs, and small unguarded screwdown crown. Vacheron Constantin includes a sapphire display caseback and certifies the case with a 150 meter water resistance rating.

Like the case, the dial of the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Self-Winding follows the classic Overseas formula with a colorful new interpretation. The blue sunburst surface here appears in images to be a deep royal blue, with a relatively dramatic shift from light to dark shades at different angles. This deeper tone looks to offset the slightly lighter shade of pink gold used in the case and dial hardware, providing these complementary colors with further contrast. The 3 o’clock date window does noticeably disrupt the overall visual flow, however, and a no-date variant may be a cleaner option in the future.

Vacheron Constantin powers this new Overseas Self-Winding with the manufacture 5100 automatic movement. Finishing on the 5100 is detailed but clean, with wide beveled bridges featuring Côtes de Genève beneath an ornately engraved 22k gold rotor with a compass motif. Carrying Hallmark of Geneva certification, the 5100 offers 60 hours of power reserve at a 28,800 bph beat rate.

As with many previous Overseas models, one of the major selling points for the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Self-Winding in pink gold is the variety of included strap options. In addition to a textured rubber strap and an alligator leather strap, both in navy blue, the watch also includes a new iteration of the classic Overseas bracelet with its distinctive Maltese cross inspired links in 18k pink gold. All three options include the brand’s quick-release system for easy changing, which along with the multiple included straps is a real benefit for a design with unorthodox or integrated lugs.
