Each Cerfs-Volants Extraordinary Dials watch features a dial made from hand-engraved mother-of-pearl. The displays are amazingly three-dimensional and carefully painted in miniature using stunning colors. Again, I’ll remind you that each dial is made totally by hand, mostly under a microscope for precision. Fans of the brand and collectors may also be interested in the fact that according to Van Cleef & Arpels, these watches represent the first time their watches have combined both engraved mother-of-pearl dials and miniature paintings.
The watches themselves are taken from the brand’s current collection and are 38mm wide in 18k white gold decorated with diamonds on the lugs and bezel. Inside the watches are Swiss automatic movements, and two hands on the dial offer just the time with hours and minutes.
The Cerfs-Volants collection contains four pieces, each with a unique dial design and color theme. The models are known as the “Fushia, Indigo, Carmin, and Cyan,” which references the main color of the focused butterfly-kite on the dial. I think it goes without saying that these are women’s watches. But again, as the brands often are quick to point out what goes for a women’s watch in the West may be unisex in the East… And if you had to don ladies clothing it might be well worth it for the type artisanship you find on timepieces such as this.
I have to say though, given the finances, these are just the type of item I’d love to see on a woman’s wrist. Pretty, lots of class, and a rich amount of actual effort worthy of a true luxury item. Each of the four Van Cleef & Arpels Cerfs-Volants “kites” watches will be limited to 22 pieces. vancleefarpels.com
