The 39mm wide case is produced entirely from platinum. It wears comfortably and bears Voutilainen’s signature lug design and attractive profile. As a dress watch the size is good and because the watch isn’t terribly thin, it does not appear too small in diameter. Over the dial we see a layout that is effortlessly legible. Kari’s signature “mega pomme” (as I like to call them) hands are gorgeous, practical, and completely handmade. Proportions are perfect as well.

Like many Voutilainen dials, the GMT Six O’Clock is almost completely engraved. In addition to the GMT disc, the center part of the dial has bamboo looking foliage and birds. Additional decorative elements line the periphery of the dial. The display is classy, but also rather calming, and the engraving work is very well done. If you notice, a lot of hand engraved pieces don’t have the highest quality figurines if you care to look closely. Voutilainen really makes sure his dials are done with quality and talent.

Just as much effort went into decorating the movement. The Caliber 28 is manually wound with about 65 hours of power reserve. Movement finishing is simply gorgeous, and Voutilainen’s style peers through what would otherwise be just another really nice mechanical creation. What do I mean? Well for one thing Kari likes particularly bold beveled edges. He also likes them more rounded than flat. Notice how the polished areas on the edges of the bridges appear a bit different? That is because of his signature beveling techniques.

Voutilainen also likes to combine said polished, rounded edges with grainy-surfaced bridges as opposed to those with other types of polishes. This is perhaps a bit more classic, but ultimately very satisfying for the type of aesthetic that he is going for. Finally there is his typical balance wheel bridge. The bridge is fully polished, rounded, and tapers from both ends. This is extremely difficult to polish properly, and it is all done by hand. Gorgeous and imminently wearable (and useful), this highly exclusive GMT Six O’Clock by Kari Voutilainen is priced at $138,000. voutilainen.ch
