Watches Of Switzerland ‘Sneaker Time’ Exhibit In New York Pairs Watches & Shoes (Now-December 2nd)

Watches Of Switzerland 'Sneaker Time' Exhibit In New York Pairs Watches & Shoes (Now-December 2nd) Shows & Events

Running now through December 2nd at their SoHo store in New York City, Watches Of Switzerland is exhibiting their ‘Sneaker Time’ show in partnership with Stadium Goods. There are fifteen watch and sneaker pairings being shown on the lower level of the store located at 60 Greene Street including brands like Vacheron Constantin, Grand Seiko, and Ulysse Nardin matched with Adidas, Nike, and Balenciaga.

Some of the fifteen watch and sneaker combos are quite natural, like the Breitling Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Curtiss Warhawk and the Nike Air Max “Warhawk” 90. As made clear by their names, these are both inspired by the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk fighter plane from WWII. The HYT SOONOW and Nike Air FoamPosite One “ParaNorman” pairing isn’t as clear cut. The rare shoe was released in 2012 and limited to 800 pieces, while the HYT SOONOW recently was announced and is even more limited at 5 pieces produced. The green flames on the shoe plays well with the green and blue fluid filled “capillaries” on the HYT, so the two connect even though they were introduced seven years apart.

There’s a huge overlap in watch collecting with other hobbies. Cars, for example, have a legendary overlap with watches when it comes to sheer enthusiasm. The collector mentality behind watch enthusiasm definitely mirrors that of sneakers for a newer generation of collectors.

One of the most fascinating watch and sneaker pairings is the Grand Seiko Spring Drive 20th & Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Limited Edition watch and the Fragment Design X Nike Air Jordan I done with Hiroshi Fujiwara of Fragment Design. It’s not simply an aesthetic match with the “Bayside blue” and white colors, but both put the spotlight on Japanese design and its impact across various categories.

This is cool. I could at least afford a pair of sneakers

Cars and watches certainly do have a big overlap in enthusiasm, and what was once quite popular on the forums (and probably still is, to a degree) was “car and watch brand comparison lists” that were ill conceived 100% of the time and always dissolved into hair pulling and thread locks.

guyWithWatch1982: Is Mercedes Rolex or Omega?

    OtherGuyBigTypos69: Omega is oviously BMW u tard!1

New2Watches: the Patek 3974 is obviously the Maybach Excelro, I dare any of you to disagree; I have 9 irrefutable reasons for my entry.

Swatch_group_girl: lmao Fitbit and Tesla amirite!

I always thought those comparison conversations were silly and really only ever participated in a way that made sure the hairpulling contest started early, but I do believe we have found the next round of ridiculousness.

  • NaJo

Watches and shoes ! Also i could see shoes only clearly in the snaps. Doesnt make any sense to me.

  • Raymond Wilkie

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Over here we call them training shoes….” Trainers” Won’t be putting a pair on anytime soon, not with my dicky hips.

    • egznyc

      What are “dicky hips”?

      • Raymond Wilkie

Dicky is a local colloquialism here to describe something that you have problems with. I have arthitis in both hips so their a bit dicky.

    “Watches Of Switzerland”

First in line – Grand Seiko 🙂 followed by Bremont.

  • Foul Owl On The Prowl
  • Travis Cannata
  • egznyc

They’re both ridiculous in their own special ways. A merkin for a pair of shoes and a watch with a lot of gold color … and unreadable hands. (I was going to say the date window ruins it … but no, not here ;-).)

    • Mikita

Safe to say that the day window might be as well the best part of this watch 🙂
