The SUPERLATIVE Podcast now has nearly 40 published episodes for you to enjoy. Our goal with the novel podcast is to highlight the people and personalities behind all things watches, and I’m thrilled at how engaging and popular these conversations are proving to be. New episodes drop each week on Mondays, and you can subscribe on the BLEAV Network, on Apple Podcasts, or wherever you prefer to get your podcasts.

First, I welcome Daniel Sum from the Shanghai Watch Gang back to the show after his visit to the in-person Watches & Wonders: Shanghai 2021 event. We discuss what the only major in-person watch show of 2021 was like. Next, I am joined by aBlogtoWatch Art Director Matt Smith-Johnson. Matt and I have designed watches together, as well as multiple versions of aBlogtoWatch.com to showcase our love of watches. It’s a great discussion that goes into how we appreciate watches from both a functional and aesthetic perspective.

What is it like starting out as a watchmaker today? What kinds of careers are available in watchmaking, and what does it take to gain enough education to excel in the craft? To discuss some of these important questions, I speak with Emma Rutten, who is currently a watchmaker at the Dutch company, Gronefeld timepieces.

One of the brightest (pun intended) personalities in the luxury watch space is James Thompson, founder of Sweden-based Black Badger. His brand started by developing unique men’s rings with glow-in-the-dark compounds, many of which he formulates himself. James has collaborated on a number of watches, including MB&F and MW&Co. He is also the co-founder of Arcanaut watches, and I think you’ll really enjoy our discussion. Finally, there’s an interview with the author of the book Rowing Blazers, who founded the clothing brand of the same name. Jack Carlson of Rowing Blazers also recently debuted a limited edition watch with Seiko 5 Sports.

Enjoy these recent SUPERLATIVE podcasts, and please subscribe wherever you get your podcasts to keep up to date on the latest in watch enthusiast community conversations.
