Analysis

Newest on the otherwise subtly updated Chopard L.U.C Quattro is the dial, which features vertical brushing on a satin-finished, silver-toned background. The applied hour markers and hands are now blued and updated in style, with Arabic numerals at three and nine and smaller pointed indices in the other hour positions. While the power reserve indicator at twelve and the small seconds/date sub-dial at six are located in the same positions as in their predecessor, they have been simplified in execution and also feature their own blued hands.

Most prominently carried over from the original Quattro is the in-house manufactured caliber which gives the watch its name. The COSC-certified L.U.C Calibre 98.01-L features no less than approximately 216 hours (9 days) of power reserve, thanks to two pairs of stacked barrels. A sapphire exhibition caseback allows for easy viewing of the decorated 98.01-L caliber, which also bears the “Poinçon de Genève” quality hallmark.

Summary

While the new watch is not a ground breaking update, the newly designed dial on the L.U.C Quattro demonstrates Chopard’s ability to follow the more simplified, perhaps even vintage-inspired aesthetic sweeping the watch industry. By combining the 18k rose gold case, a newly designed silver dial with blued hands and indices, and the impressive horological achievement represented by the 98.01L, Chopard have brought one of their core pieces into the modern era by refining an older design to suit the tastes of today. The new Chopard L.U.C Quattro is available in a limited edition of 50 pieces for 24,600 CHF. chopard.com
