G.Mazzuoli Carrara 006

Giuliano Mazzuoli goes from polished and rounded to cubic and matte for the metallic hour markers. These match the angular look of the hands but are done in a way so that the hands pass over parts of the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock hour indicators. I’ve complained in the past that on Giuliano Mazzuoli Manometro watches the hands have been too short. The Giuliano Mazzuoli Carrara hands are quite similar, but the design of the dial has been created here so that the hands fit much better. Also note how the seconds hand (in red), is placed above the hour markers and properly extends close to the edge of the dial.

The Giuliano Mazzuoli Carrara dials are undeniably “designer” in their appearance, and I also think they offer a completely new look, done in a refined, yet familiar, way that I really appreciate. This is hard to do and Giuliano Mazzuoli makes it look easy in a watch like the Carrara. Of course Giuliano Mazzuoli once again produces a watch case without lugs. The brand prefers straps which connect directly to the case. Even though the case is not small at 44.5mm wide (and 13.5mm thick), the comparatively narrow strap allows for the watch to wear on the smaller side. Understanding the dimensions of the watch are of course good, but when it comes to case designs such as that of the Giuliano Mazzuoli Carrara, I really recommend people wear them first to see how large they look on your wrist.

Each of the three Giuliano Mazzuoli Carrara color options available either has a three-hand or chronograph watch. Each has merits to it and I frankly can’t say that I prefer one over the other – though the beautiful simplicity and much more accessible price of the three-hand model is likely going to go in its favor when it comes to many people’s purchase decisions. Inside the Giuliano Mazzuoli Carrara Three-Hand model is a Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, while the Carrara Chronograph contains a Swiss La Joux-Perret caliber LJP 7771 automatic 30 minute chronograph movement.

Each of the Giuliano Mazzuoli Carrara cases is water resistant to 50 meters, and over the dial is a sapphire crystal. Attached to each is an Italian-made (in Tuscany) calf-skin leather strap. The small rivets connect to a metal wedge under the strap that allows for greater wearing comfort. Lovely pieces overall, I am glad to see Giuliano Mazzuoli look somewhere other than the world of automobiles for inspiration. This time he focuses on something else from his home country and I really like the result. Price for the Giuliano Mazzuoli Carrara Three-Hand is $4,900 and the Giuliano Mazzuoli Carrara Chronograph is $7,900. giulianomazzuoli.it
