On the wrist the large size of the Gc Sport Class XXL will require an adequately-sized wrist, which is mostly because the lugs are long and spaced widely apart. Though the thickness of the case is pleasantly thin for a watch of this type at just 12mm. Case design is quite attractive in our opinion, and watch enthusiasts will no doubt recognize influence from the older Zenith Defy range in the Sport Class XXL. This is mostly in the rotating bezel design, as well as the bracelet on this specific model, with its Clos de Paris style texturing (small triangles) applied to the surface of the center-links (that makes for an admittedly cool wrist presence). Little details on the case are easy to appreciate such as the rounded design of the chronograph pushers and relief engraved crown with the Gc logo.
Being almost entirely polished, the Sport Class XXL in steel is a bit of a fingerprint magnet. We are pretty sure the situation is similar with the polished ceramic models, but we are curious about how the matte black ceramic models fare in that regard. Sometimes it might be a good idea just to carry a polishing cloth with you and spend idle moments rubbing it over your watch. No, that isn’t weird at all. Though, the middle links on the bracelet don’t apply to that. Actually the bracelet itself is a highlight of the watch, though I bet it would look cool if tapered. The bracelet closes with a butterfly-style deployant clasp.
Mixing a bit of bling and sport is really what the Gc Sport Class XXL collection is all about, and the steel and rose gold-toned version is probably best at that. While it isn’t a true dive watch, it does have enough case durability to put up with abuse should you decide it deserves such treatment. Fashion brand watches tend to be a little convoluted in their design as they want their watches, like their clothing to be more “now” than “timeless,” but we can see something like the Sport Class XXL looking more than decent a few years from now.
Inside the watch is a Swiss Ronda caliber R5040D quartz movement. The movement features the time, date, and 30 minute chronograph. Note that this movement is designed to capture 1/10 of a second increments when timing using the lower subdial. With a durable case, sapphire crystal, and attractive yet trendy design, the Gc Sport Class XXL makes a definite case for itself with people whose idea of splurging for a watch involves spending a few hundred dollars. With a starting price of about $650, this ref. G53003G2 Sport Class XXL retails for $800, while the collection is topped with full ceramic versions priced at $1,000. shop.guess.com
