In the last five years, Madison Avenue has become the epicenter for haute horlogerie and the largest fine timepiece marketplace in North America. This unprecedented congregation of watch brands establishing flagship boutiques motivated the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District to create the first Madison Avenue Watch Week. The concept for the Madison Avenue Watch Week was simple; to display the newest Swiss watch innovations with in-store events for the New York audience. Madison Avenue Watch Week will be celebrating its 5th Anniversary from April 20 to 25, 2015.
Thanks to the hospitality and creativity of the participating brands, over the years, thousands of watch collectors and enthusiasts have had the amazing experiences of seeing master watchmakers at work or demonstrating the inner mechanics and technology of superlative timepieces – historic and brand new. Madison Avenue Watch Week has featured talks by watch connoisseurs on the art of collecting; panels with watch company presidents on the business of timepieces; exhibitions on futuristic and fanciful watch artistry; the chance to meet and greet the designers and technicians behind the scenes at the foremost watch brands in the world; and displays of the newest bespoke entries.
Madison Avenue Watch Week 2015 will be the most dynamic to date. The impressive roster of participating watch brands and retailers include: A. Lange & Söhne, Chopard, David Yurman, de Grisogono, Fabergé, F.P. Journe, Georg Jensen, Hublot, Jaeger-LeCoultre, John Varvatos, Montblanc, Panerai, and Vacheron Constantin. Among the luxury watches being debuted for 2015 are: de Grisogono’s Instruento Uno Annual Calendar Watch, F.P. Journe’s Nouvelle Octa Lune Platinum 40mm Watch, and Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Geophysic® 1958 Boutique Edition Watch.
Open to the public and by requested invitation, watch enthusiasts are invited to enjoy beer and pretzels at the new A. Lange & Söhne boutique, while previewing their newest 2015 timepieces. Montblanc will be showcasing novelties from their newest collection and offering an exclusive gift with every timepiece purchase. In honor of Earth Day’s 45th anniversary, Jaeger-LeCoultre will be hosting an event to reassert their engagement working side-by-side with UNESCO to protect the 46 marine sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
In addition to their in-store preview watch exhibitions, stores are hosting private, “by invitation only” events. Invitations and private appointments can be requested on the Madison Avenue Watch Week website. Among the enticing Madison Avenue Watch Week 2015 opportunities are an educational workshop at the Vacheron Constantin boutique. The Hublot Boutique will have a Master Watchmaker on hand to offer insight into their in-house UNICO movement, and guests are welcome to try their hands at deconstructing their famous UNICO movement. The John Varvatos boutique invites watch aficionados to join Ernst Benz President and Creative Director Leonid Khankin for a special evening of cocktails and watches.
“There is no better place to experience the new international collections of premier timepieces than within the flagship boutiques that display the full breadth and depth of offerings from each of our Madison Avenue Watch Week brands,” said Matthew Bauer, President of the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District.
Madison Avenue Watch Week 2015 is presented by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) and sponsored by The Wall Street Journal.
