The Phoibos Eagle Ray was envisioned with a simple goal in mind: to create a tough dive watch that can also fit in when a dressier watch is needed. With clean lines and classic looks, we aimed to get the big things right when designing the Eagle Ray. But, it’s all about the details and design choices that resulted in a product we’re this happy with. The ceramic bezel surrounded by the unique shark fin pattern bezel, a date window that matches the dial, and the included leather strap all went into creating the product we envisioned.

As with every watch, the dial is where your eyes go first. Large, lumed hands that are easy to read are the focal point on the Eagle Ray’s dial. Our logo, the 300m water resistance marking, and indication of the automatic movement are all the text we put on the dial and we made sure to move the date window down to 6 o’clock rather than 3 o’clock in order to maintain the design symmetry. As we mentioned before, making sure the date window matches the dial was an important factor since we see so many otherwise pleasant looking watch dials ruined by a mismatched date window that affects the visual harmony.

The 316L steel case is 41mm wide and 13.3mm thick, with a 47mm lug to lug length. The scratch resistant traits as well as looks of ceramic are why we choose to do the bezel in this material rather than a metal. The ceramic sheen serves to “dress” up this capable dive watch, but the 120-click unidirectional shark-fin pattern on the bezel brings a fresh and sporty look to a classically designed dive watch. Allowing a totally legible and clear view of the dial, we liberally applied three layers of anti-reflective coating on the domed sapphire crystal. As for when you turn the case around, we did an enclosed stainless steel caseback with our octopus logo engraved.

Inside the Phoibos Eagle Ray is the Miyota 9015 automatic movement, which has a hacking function and Parashock anti-shock system. We made adjustments to the movement, including the repositioning of the date window to 6 o’clock. The Miyota 9015 movement operates at 28,800 vph and has a 42-hour power reserve. We know this is a reliable and popular Japanese movement, and we selected it exactly for the reasons of reliability and affordability.

The Phoibos Eagle Ray comes in three variations; one with a suede black dial and two variations of glossy blue to black dials. Each Eagle Ray comes outfitted with a leather strap and we also include a rubber strap with each watch. We also provide a 2-year warranty for all our automatic movement watches, including the Eagle Ray. You can shop our collection here, and we currently are offering a sale on the Eagle Ray, which is available for $359 USD (retail price is $519 USD). phoiboswatch.com
