The new Viita Titan HRV is a smartwatch inspired in design by Iceland’s mountains and aims to fill the gap between luxury timepieces and state-of-the-art smartwatch technology. Our intention was to create a lightweight, reliable smartwatch for active people who want a smartwatch that can be versatile enough to fit a lifestyle that includes socializing, work, and play without looking or feeling out of place.

We started with ensuring that the best in watchmaking craftsmanship is achieved by sourcing the best possible materials. The housing is milled out of a full grade 1 titanium block, supported by a zirconia ceramic ZR02 bezel. Premium watches use only sapphire glass, Viita Titan HRV is the first to combine this ultra-scratch resistant material with a touch screen and on top is 100m of water resistance. The back cover is made from aircraft aluminum.

On the technology side Viita Titan HRV not only measures heart rate, but also heart rate variability (HRV). This enables the watch to measure stress and regeneration status, besides standard features like steps and calorie tracking, notifications for calls and several messenger services, a “Find my Phone” feature and a smart alarm that wakes you at the perfect time within a pre-defined 30-minute timeframe. With its GPS sensor, it also tracks over 19 different sports activities so you can leave your phone at home when going for a run.

There are five core features that the Viita Titan HRV employs that are especially useful to our target audience:

  • “Dehydration,” which is a drink management feature that constantly shows how much water you should have consumed.
  • “VIITA Coach” gives you training recommendations that are tailored to your regeneration status. It’s shown in real time and changes depending on your regeneration and stress level. VIITA is a proven expert in heart-rate-variability analyses and has years of scientific experience in that field. With their previous product (Vitalmonitor), they developed a groundbreaking device which allows athletes to monitor their regeneration and stress levels and therefore adjusts their training regimes. This technology is now transferred to the Viita Titan HRV.
  • The battery runtime is up to two weeks. Probably the most annoying thing about smartwatches is that most of them don’t last longer than one or two days. VIITA has a special focus on battery life and developed a cutting-edge energy management system in combination with a 530 mAh Lithium-ion battery, to make 2 weeks of battery life possible, even with 24/7 heart rate measurement.
  • “My Challenge” lets you set individual performance goals and see on your display if you are leading or behind thanks to GPS tracking.
  • “My Sets” is a feature specifically targeted at regular gym goers. It lets you determine the perfect timing between your resting periods and sets, to optimize your muscle growth. Your VIITA signals through subtle vibrations when to exercise or to take a break. Exercise times and training times can be individually adjusted in the VIITA App.

The titanium case of the new Titan HRV is 46mm wide, 16mm thick and only weighs 87g. The ultra-bright LCD display under the sapphire glass has a resolution of 320×290 pixels. Aiming to provide an outstanding battery life for a smartwatch we have developed our own customized mainboard combined with a highly efficient power management system. The mainboard is based on two processors that are assigned to tasks they are most efficient in. We are using processors from MTK as well as one from Nordic. Besides a high-frequency optical sensor that measures not only your heart rate but also your heart rate variability, TITAN HRV contains a 3-axis-accelerometer for tracking your steps, movement and sleep, GPS & Glonass support, and a Bluetooth Smart connection.

Hydration meter? If you are so absolutely stupid you need a stupid watch to tell you went to drink water…
Seriously! These are the life changing features?

The 2 weeks battery life is nice. But I have the feeling it’s more about killing background processes left and right and turning the screen off as soon as you look away.

I like the first paragraphs mumbo jumbo marketing trash. Iceland mountains, feeling out of place. Man, never realised how much aircraft grade titanium and ceramic can give you.

Overall what the watch can offer (on paper at least) sounds reasonable for that price. But the whole fitness oriented trash just kills it for me.

What about the people, who aren’t fitness people? Aren’t social piranhas? Don’t have a very busy lifestyle?
You know, like 95% of humanity…

I am yet to bedazzled by a nice smartwatch for the common man.

  • H.S.M.

    Can’t you see the mountain?
Good, I thought I am the only one here with this problem.

    • Agnar Sidhu

The triangle on the bezel is an up side down mountain??

      • H.S.M.

How could I miss that? It is so obvious!
Thank you kind Sir to point it out to me. I was too occupied with the enjoyment of titanium and ceramic. 😀

  • Leonarr

Fun fact: “Viita” means “thicket” or “shrubbery” in Finnish. Maybe i’d take this watch with me for hiking in the forest or something.

  • H.S.M.

    Oh… My… God!
No wonder they said Iceland MOUNTAINS.
Just looking at the watch makes me feel like being there.

  • Raymond Wilkie

    I’m 50…..enough said.

  • Ulysses31

It’s stylish enough but looks quite bulky, like the majority of smart watches.

  • JBwatcher

Is it sycronising with Strava? And is it suitable for swim training logging?
