The Essence is the newest watch from the historically motorsports-oriented brand and is characterized by the patented Formex case suspension system. At 43mm, the Essence is the most stylistically versatile Formex watch to date, and is sized to appeal to a broad group of watch enthusiasts for sporty to casual wear. With that said, the timepiece still offers the signature Formex case suspension system which is at the heart of the Essence Automatic.
The Formex Essence Automatic watch case is offered with a hand-finished stainless steel case that measures 43mm wide and a slim 10mm thick with a lug-to-lug measurement of 49mm. The sapphire crystal on the dial and case back is scratch-resistant and treated with anti-reflective coating for maximum legibility. The Formex Essence is water resistant to a substantial 100m, more than sturdy enough to put up with whatever day-to-day living (and casual sports and swimming) throws at it.
This version of the Formex Essence runs on an automatic ETA 2824 movement which has a 38-hour power reserve. Keeping it simple, the dial is done in a sunray pattern with the date at 6 o’clock for a symmetrical design. The faceted hour and minute hands as well as the hour indices are filled with Superluminova.
The patented case suspension system is designed with the intention of absorbing shocks. Simply put, the system works by attaching the inner case/bezel to the outer case/lugs with four spring-loaded shocks. It’s easier to understand visually, and the visual above shows how the system works on all Formex watches.
Another patented Formex system is the fine adjustment clasp that allows for 7mm of micro adjustment on the strap. Formex has an easy, no-tool required strap change system and the folding clasp can also be easily changed out without a tool.
The watch comes in three dial option colors of blue, black, and silver. The calfskin leather strap comes in black, blue, or brown. The Formex Essence Automatic retails for $785 on strap and $890 on stainless steel bracelet.
