WATCH GIVEAWAY: LIV GX1 Automatic

WATCH GIVEAWAY: LIV GX1 Automatic Giveaways

In this month’s aBlogtoWatch giveaway, one lucky reader will win a LIV GX1 Automatic watch. Back in 2012, LIV set out to create an accessibly priced Swiss made watch after realizing that several brands had been ignoring the sub-$1,000 price segment. After soliciting the help of some of the world’s best designers, the LIV brand was made a reality and their first watch was brought to market thanks to a very successful Kickstarter campaign. All of LIV’s watches focus on aggressive design, bold colors, and high quality construction. This LIV GX1 Automatic is no different and serves as one of the brand’s best options when considering an affordable watch with a fully mechanical movement.

The LIV GX1 Automatic watch is powered by a Swiss Sellita SW200 movement and intelligently sized at 42mm. This particular model features clever orange accents throughout the dial and strap (somewhat of a LIV signature) and the robust crown assembly allows for 100m of water resistance. One thing to take note of is the multi-layer dial construction, which results in a nice element of depth and legibility. The case is constructed out of 316L stainless steel that has been IP coated and a sapphire crystal offers an extra element of durability. LIV Watches offer a great deal of value, especially this GX1 Automatic priced at $690 USD. You can enter to win one now by following the instructions below.

Looks like a very handsome watch with interesting materials

  • IG

I hate automatic watches and proud of it.™

  • Not too shabby!

  • Chris MoJo

I’m going to focus on consolidating my collection this year, selling some pieces I don’t wear and carefully considering new purchases.

  • Lindsay

Are we SOL if we don’t use social networking?

    • Good Gene 42K18

      No but yeah. Pretty much.

      • Lindsay

        Oh well. Good luck everyone!(?)

  • Ernesto Jr Ramos

The orange accent is just right. Good value for money.

  • aWtchslvr

I like the orange for sporty watches. Bezel design and dial guilloche are quite attractive.
In 2018 I would like to buy a IWC portuguese chronograph. If the prices keep on rising I plan on growing as a watch enthusiast by reading blogs??.

  • Jakub Gajski

On 2018 I have to obtain at least one watch with Swiss mechanical caliber, because so far I have got only Japanese mechs and quartz. I also want to get along with some technical knowledge in a field of calibers.

  • Conservatarian TX

As a relatively new collector, my goal is to continue to add quality watches. Coincidentally, the sub $1,000 Swiss made segment is my primary focus.

  • Charles-Hadrien Vinault

This year I wanted to buy just one watch for my 18th anniversary, maybe Christopher Ward jumping hour or oris divers 65. I wanted to continue to develop my instagram account: @neverlate_watches . Happy new year!

    • Good Gene 42K18

      I like you…
      No Promo

      • Charles-Hadrien Vinault

Oh sorry I did not want to advertise I do not sell elsewhere!

        • Good Gene 42K18

I was just joking around – a play on words. Good luck getting one of those watches and happy anniversary.

    • Yan Fin

      @18is_too_late_4_watches. Switch to women.

  • Patrick Kennedy

As a novice in watch collection i appreciate the varied range of luxury watches. I’ve noticed a price range of up to $200 000 and yes thats an illusive price tag , however when the price is around $690 i suppose one can call that affordable. I hope to enhance my collection bearing in mind my thirst for quality .

  • ANTONIO

I´m not a collector as of yet, but have my sights set on a Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Golden Heritage amongst so many others…here´s to a health and prosperity filled 2018 for all of us so that we can walk down the collector´s path in good strides.

  • Nel T

In 2016 I purchased my first Swiss made watch for my 30th Birthday, A Movado Museum Chronogrpah, it is my pride an joy. However in 2018 I plan to dive further into the Swiss made world and hopefully either purchase my first Omega (most likely a speed master) or ideally a Rolex date just. I also plan on increasing my knowledge of other noteworthy brands and complications.

  • susansmoaks

i do not have a watch collection yet. my plans for 2018 are to start my collection and get at least 10 watches in 2018.

    • Good Gene 42K18

There’s a guy above who wants to get 12 watches in 2018. You’ve gotta step your game up! 🙂

  • Adam Fenyves

I am trying not to grow my collection too big as the budget is limited – I rather do upgrades for a few years now, 2018 will be no different. I have two keepers (being an Eterna Royal Kontiki and a Nomos Tangente 38), but I should sell 2 of my other 4 watches, I simply don’t wear them enough, no matter how great it is to look at them (sigh). And probably a few watches will come and go during the year, just to enjoy them for a few months before passing them further 🙂

  • Jim Sandy

A smart watch. I’m a beginner in watch collecting but this could be a dangerous start to a new hobby.

  • Bob Rios

Started with an Orient Capital to wear to interviews. Now that I got the job, it’s time to expand my arsenal a bit.

  • Raymond Wilkie
  • jahenson

Rolex Submariner no-date is my next goal. Not sure if I’ll make it happen in 2018, but we’ll see.

    • Good Gene 42K18

Good luck. Supercase ceramic or a pre-ceramic?

  • Yave Lozano

I am currently living in Germany and would be starting my collection with a Carl von Zeyten watch (Bison 1 or Elz model).

  • Harold Buttolph

in 2018 I need to “thin the herd” and become more focused. By the way, I love this watch, especially the orange accents

  • N.D.C

    This is a nice watch

    • Good Gene 42K18

      ^This is not the winner

  • WK Ng

    Looks professional!

  • Andre Braz

In 2018 I woud like to reduce my watch collection. I want to focus in diver models.

  • To be frank, I was quite torn between making a big purchase with the money I have saved up or go for some of the really nice offerings from the various independent watch brands. I think I will go with the later – more bang for the buck.
Really like the unique design of the LIV GX1 watch.

  • CH

In 2018 I will be focusing more on smaller brands with an eye to high quality and unique design. The LIV would start that task with a bang!

  • Demonix

Increase collection by supporting quality microbrands with unique designs and different complications. Will pass on the stale big names as they don’t seem to embrace innovation or new styles. Whilst I’d love a Richard Mille or Audemars Piguet but attaining or justifying the huge price tag means that like many I have to look at affordable modern boutique brands or sensible vintage pieces to be able to wear something different.

    • Good Gene 42K18

      …or the devil

  • 0059mike

My interest is on a diver watch for the year. 200m, automatic.

  • alexe christian

    No watch buy in 2018.

    • Good Gene 42K18

      Succinc

  • DBC

I have a singular goal for 2018, acquire a Patek Phillippe 5711/1A-010 at MSRP.

As a watch enthusiast the best way to grow is to bring more people into appreciating and acquiring select timepieces. To this end, I have engaged both of my sons on discussions about watches and taken them to AD’s to sample different brands. The appreciation of watches has caught on with my younger son (13 yrs old) and he has a strong desire to obtain a Hamilton Khaki Air Race in Black with Orange. This year he’ll graduate middle school and he’ll have his first Automatic. Happy 2018!

  • Olaf

2018 I hopefully will get my hands on a Rolex Hulk. Difficult to get a new one in Germany at the time being. This would be a significant step forward for me as a watch lover.

  • at1time

In2018 I Hope to consolidate my collection.

  • Tempvs Mortvvs

For 2018 i want to keep adding interesting looking watches to my collection, like this LIV one ?. I really like its dial and bezel.

  • Raymond Wilkie

I like the way it’s watch shaped and tells you the time. Really useful.

  • christopher jensen

Nice watch. For 2018, I don’t have any specific plans other than to see if something new comes along that catches my eye.

  • Gregg Turcich

I’m a big fan of the sub-$1000 price segment!

  • Aman Khajanchi

‘A-watch-a-year’ is the methodology I follow. It starts with a new year resolution and I work throughout the year, saving specifically for the watch I would like to buy. The goal acts like a carrot and drives me. I plan carefully on (1) The brand: It should ideally not be a repeat of what I already own (2) The complications (3) The dial color and size: not larger than 42 mm (4) The strap: ideally leather, as that suits my personality the best. In order to arrive at this, I start as early a October researching on various online blogs and portals (my favorite and most trusted one being https://www.ablogtowatch.com), make comparisons on features, price and budget and freeze the same.

  • Theo21

In 2018 I want to focus on 2018 on getting my Omega Speedmaster or a Panerai diver. Maybe a few Japanese domestic Citizens if the right deals come my way. Mostly want to appreciate the watches that I have and have been fortunate to find.

  • sunder waran

New year is here, what else a new time piece will be nice.I like the design of this watch ,it is very bold and beastly.Hat off to the designer and LIV.

  • Harplayr

First off I’m going to continue to read this site to learn about watches. Then later this year I hope to move past the dime store watches I’ve been wearing and get something like a nice aviator or field watch. This watch would be a perfect start for me.

  • dennis

Just another example of finding a good watch, sub $1,000

  • j4m3z

I would like to buy a diver watch for 2018. I’m just a beginner and my watch collection is not much at the moment so I plan on visiting more watch enthusiast sites and forums to learn more about the different brands and models that may influence my future buying decisions.

  • TKoren

In 2018 I will be looking for that perfect luxury retirement watch. Well designed, comfortable to wear, easy to read, usable in any situation, and worthy of lots of travel. Like so many people, a luxury watch has always been out of my reach because of other life responsibilities like putting kids through college. So maybe a Seamaster, or a Submariner. I am open to suggestions.

    • Good Gene 42K18

Do you like the Rolex Milgauss? I think they may change up its design in the somewhat near future. So if you like the current version you can pick it up for an OK price pre-owned. And it might even go up in value when the new Milgauss comes out.

    • Omegaboy

Rolex Explorer. Unpretentious, beautiful, simple dial, and accurate as heck.

  • Omegaboy

    1) Rolex Turn-O-Graph with white gold bezel and black dial, 2) if possible, Datejust II with smooth bezel and blue dial. I am always reading and exploring in horology.

  • Matt

For 2018 my plan is to keep the collection small, maybe sell and replace one watch, but otherwise focus on being happy and content with what I have.

  • Terry

I am currently looking for a rugged watch that I can wear while I work out and play sports. I need a one minute countdown timer and want something different than a Casio (already have one that replaced another). I have several watches but I am not keen on scraping one up while playing squash. I am looking for good readability and preferably analog (will forgo the countdown timer if necessary). Under $1000 would be prefered and this would nicely round out my collection.

  • Dragos Stefan

For 2018 I want to get an automatic watch, not so sophisticated one, but simple, for everyday wearing. Currently growing the collection slowly, but could never be more happy with the watches I have 🙂

  • Jon W

In 2018 I would like continue saving for a future watch (aviator or field) while enjoying my 2017 purchase, a Magrette MPP Black.

  • Brad Herndon

For 2018, continue to explore new micro brands. So many great new offerings have appeared over the last year on Kickstarter and other funding platforms. So many great values and designs. It never gets old, especially for someone who can’t quite jump into the high end segment of collecting…yet ?

  • Steve

I’m looking to add a pilot or field watch.

    • Yan Fin

It’s called a field dusting watch.

  • Michael Bell

My watch collecting goals for 2018 are not to collect more for myself (although I’d certainly like more) but to try to convert my children into watch enthusiasts.

  • eitan

In 2018 I will be interesting on brands with high quality and unique design. The LIV would start that task with a bang!

  • Steven Servantez

I plan on acquiring a watch every month in 2018. Some flashy, some dressy, mostly as investments.

    • Good Gene 42K18

If you use the lunar calendar you might be able to get 13 watches.

      • Steven Servantez

Great idea! That works for me.

        • Good Gene 42K18

Go wild on every full moon, werewolf style.

  • Bruce Hagman

Just got my LIV Rebel Watch last month, love the color and the feel. This is definitely a brand that will be getting a second Watch from.

  • F.J. V.R.

Seguir aprendiendo y admirar vuestras publicaciones.

    • Good Gene 42K18

      Oui.

  • KentH

Great looking watch…..for 2018 I want to continue hunting for the perfect Rolex or Omega watch. In particular, looking for chronographs.

  • Jéjé H

Gorgeous watch! For 2018 I’d like to flip some to get the collection manageable 🙂

  • Dominic Cloutier

Love that piece. One of my goals is to find a better way to store my expanding collection. Another is to finally get you to send me a sexy watch. The 22nd is my birthday so would be a great time

    domcloutier24@yahoo.ca

  • Mischa

That looks lovely. Watch collecting goal… grow the collection without spend too much on it. A watch giveaway would be the perfect way to achieve both goals!

  • Good Gene 42K18

I guess I know what Berndt’s New Year’s resolution is.
    Sad!
Hopefully it will be smashed to bits on February 1.

  • JesseSifuentes

Here’s to updating the watch collection in 2018.

  • Andrew Clark

Nice! I’d like to just start a collection 🙂

  • Kurt Jenkins

Good looking watch. Good auto movement and nice chunky 42mm case. Reasonably priced watch for what it is

  • Benjamin Sermersheim

I need to expand my collection, ideally by 3 new watches (I’m on a serious budget). As a watch enthusiast, I read this blog daily, and I would like to try to develop a better understanding of the inner workings of watches as well.

  • Mike V

My goals are to reduce my collection by selling off the duplicate pieces. In 2018 I want to learn more and get into the more attainable German brands such as Sinn and vintage Glassutte Originale.

  • Erisgen

Nice looking watch. I like the color combination.

  • Chris Bos

Step one is not to buy anymore watches without thinking. That saves money. Step two is to sell the watches I hardly wear. This generates money. Step three is to investigate better what kind of watch is my dream watch. Because I almost love all the watches in the world. At the moment I’m not entirely sure. So I look forward to read more about my top 25 brands. My favorite part of this learning curve is to try watches on. Those skin and eyes-thrills and discoveries are one of the must fun parts of this journey towards a more wise watch enthusiast.

  • Bob Last

It’s a very nice looking watch and I like the color way.

  • Boryueh1

I’d like to be more selective with my watch choices. I’d like to find the right size (prob 42 mm) and only wear a few, nicer pieces instead of multiple watches that are only ok.

  • Gary Aerne

I follow you blog all the time. I am always checking out Kickstarter. I see many watches that I like. I recently bought one from it. It seems you get a lot more value for your money. I also follow watch auctions. This is an excellent place to find specific watches I like.

  • SPITX206

Very nice watch, I like the size, the colors, the w/r and the lack of a gap between the watch and the strap. In 2018 I will give consideration to either trading or selling the watches in my collection that were bought on impulse and not being worn. Of course to make room for more watches!

  • benjameshodges

My intention is to find a perpetual calendar that takes a modern turn.

    • Good Gene 42K18

What is your price range, if you don’t mind me asking?

      • benjameshodges

Quite low under £6k. I like the Big Pilot QP but the stuff in my price range such as the JLC, Montblanc and Frederique Constant perpetual calendars always go for the classic look. I’m keen to see if SIHH and Baselworld offers something modern in style yet with a useful complication such as the perpetual calendar for an attractive price.

        • Good Gene 42K18

Yeah, that’s a tough one. I’ll have to think about it. Just off the top of my head, how about a Breitling 1461? It needs to be adjusted once every 4 years, so it’s above an annual calendar and just below a perpetual. And it’s a chronograph too. I don’t know if that fits your style, but it’s in your price range.

          • Good Gene 42K18

Or an IWC 3750, but that’s got a funky style that a lot of people don’t like, and it’s starting to go up in price.

  • Spyros Pandis

    Beautifull watch!!!

  • Marv

My watch collecting goals for 2018 is to maintain the collection I have and the only plan to grow it is if I win a watch.

    • Good Gene 42K18

      BJ314? Is that you, buddy?

  • gaknak

The LIV GX1 looks like a fun watch to wear. Not many plans to add watches to my collection in 2018. I have become very selective any watch I acquire must be solar powered, have a sapphire crystal, and if it has a metal bracelet it must be titanium. Perhaps a khaki themed sport watch.

  • Sam Mattar

    looks like a great watch

  • Gabe Chambers

Awesome looking watch – plans are to buy a dress watch this year and will be researching options around this

  • Leandro Amorim

Beautiful watch. This year I hope start to the Big ones… Hope bring one Oris Aquis to my home. A Pelagos would be nice too, and waiting for the Seiko automatic Black Series…

  • Daniele Bonaldo

This looks really great, and for this year I hope I’ll be able to add a new sporty, every day watch to my collection

  • Cory Knutson

I plan on getting a Rolex to round out my collection, focusing more on quality pieces over quantity.

  • Greg Nye

This is the sweet spot for me price wise, and I suspect most watch enthusist. I have a couple “anchor watches,” both Rolex. My focus now is on value: Steinhart, LIV, Glycine, Victorinox, Orient, Seiko. Getting watches like these, I feel smart about what I’m doing. Just ordered an Orient field watch today.

    • Good Gene 42K18

The one from the recent article here?

      • Raymond Wilkie

I live in the middle of a city. A field watch would be completely useless.

        • Good Gene 42K18

Then I recommend an Apple Watch for you since your’ a hip urban guy.

          • Raymond Wilkie

You eat apples not wear them silly.

        • Yan Fin

moving the lawn counts as a field activity.

          • Raymond Wilkie

The lawn is my weekend home.

          • Yan Fin

No insult intended, but … Do you actually live in the grass on weekends?

          • Raymond Wilkie

Really! ………. The weekend house has a lawn, my city house is 2 floors up .

  • Joseph

The Liv automatic watch is a strong watch with robust Sellita movement.
It’s perfect a combination of activities that require a watch of this calibre.
I know I’d be grateful and proud to have this timepiece.

  • Yan Fin

    Nice non- Bremont watch

  • Nathan Likes Watches

Beautiful watch, love the orange accents. A coworker got me into watches about 4 years ago. My budget isn’t astronomical by any means so I have been sticking with mostly Japanese pieces, (Citizen, Seiko, Orient, Casio). I received my first Swiss watch (Oris) as a present this year and absolutely love the build quality.

My goal this year is to continue seeking out value pieces that don’t necessarily break the bank (picked up one of the Spinnakers that was featured on ABTW recently!). It would be amazing to find more Swiss automatic boutique brands that over amazing value, this LIV seems to do that, fingers crossed!

    • Edward

oris is a nice thoughtful.gift. feel lucky.

  • Yan Fin

And even if you win – it’s not a Bremont!

    • Raymond Wilkie

I feel for them Bremont guys.

  • Daniel D.

Looking forward to the new year and watches; well time to focus on either a Omega or Iris. Cheers

  • Raffness007

Just starting to collect watches. My goals for 2018 include adding mainly automatics. Looking to add at least one of each of a dress watch, diver, pilot, tool watch. Seikos seem to fit the bill for affordable autos in all categories, but I’m finding great startups such as this one also proving to provide quality pieces. I’d love to add this LIV GX1 to start my collection.

    • Good Gene 42K18

Why not a manual-wind? Maybe in the dress watch category.

      • Raffness007

I consider manual wind and autos to be the same category: mechanical. Essentially I’m saying quartz is not a what I’m looking for. I have a phone to tell the time. A nice watch is a feat of engineering fused with art.

  • Raymond Wilkie

    I feel ya 4700 comments,……………………and nothing.

    • Good Gene 42K18

      And how many upvotes?

      • Raymond Wilkie

Don’t! . I’m still not over the upgate incident.

        • Good Gene 42K18

          Upgate. I like that.

          • Jay Wick

At the end of the day it was more like a downgate?

  • David A Rainey

I don’t have any watch collecting goals for 2018. Unless I somehow come into a nice sum of money, it’s just not in the cards.

  • Bob Sebastian

After growing my watch numbers rather indiscriminately for years, I am taking a more measured approach and am looking to have a more curated collection. Something where each piece has a connection to me.

  • Dan Baxter

Add 1, maybe 2 pieces. Depending on what it is, maybe sell some of what I have. My grail is a Omega PO GMT, but I think that’s going to have to wait a while.

  • JC

    Nice Watch !!
For 2018, I’d like to add different types/complications to my collection, either a regulator, or a 24hr watch… I’m looking at the moment at the Pequignet Equus, http://www.watchuseek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/untitled-54.jpg, which has both, so this may be my next watch..

    • Yan Fin

Let us know next giveaway how it worked for you.

  • Giorgos Antoniou

Happy New Year ABTW and LIV. Thank you for the wonderful opprtunity to start 2018 with a new watch for our collection. The LIV GX1 Automatic is a beautiful watch that combines the sporty and rough look with the excellent automatic movement. 2018 will bring the LIV into my collection. In case this not happens I will add a classic chronograph to my collection!

  • JD Ouest

This is the perfect watch for punching bad guys in the face, which I imagine myself doing on the regular. My goal is to save up for Nomos Club (no date) and a Black Bay Black. As for enthusiast growth, I will memorize the balance wheel formula.

  • Adrian Lessek

Happy new year to all! This year I’d like to buy a Ball watch. I love their watches because they use tritium on display for havy luminosity…a pre-order maybe because it is cheaper 😀

  • Phumlani Zigizempangele Mpofan

Watches are a gentleman’s statement of confidence and BOLDNESS. The classy black and orange for courage, success and confidence of the LIV GX1
are just perfect for a gentleman’s collection. I am planning on collecting two watches this year, a LIV GX1 and a Tag Heuer and growing my knowledge of the watch brands through understanding the history of the original founders. Watches are a statement of success! To success in 2018.

  • Ryan Willard

That is beautiful Watch! Happy New Year to someone!

  • Raymond Wilkie

Why do folks want a boring old black bay ?

  • Manzur Dan

Until this year my budget for a watch was ~400£ and I have four watches. For 2018 I want to grow up in quality, first step for me is a watch around 1000£ Oris/Nomos new or used, and the next step is my grail : Omega Speedmaster.

  • Michael M.

I want to rebuild my collection with an eye towards practicality and affordability. I plan to continue my search for mechanicals – “made” or “assembled” – in each of the major watchmaking centers of the world. I’m going to try and avoid the lure of brand recognition and focus on quality, aesthetics and the overall value of the watch I’m interested in.

I check the blog posts daily, always looking for new brands with character, and with their feet on the ground. I’ve learned a lot about the industry as well from Ariel’s posts and look forward to learning more in 2018.

  • 112010

This will be the start of my 2018 watch collection! Yes!

    • Raymond Wilkie

      I love your optimism.

      • 112010

        Thank you.

    • Ranchracer

Interesting that every single one of your comments is for a free giveaway. Glad to see such a valuable contributor to the community.

  • darkhitect

Really a great looking watch. I have a problem when it comes to choosing appropriate watch for a certain occasion. But it seems this one could cover multiple scenarios. It will be a real win for the winner…Cheers all.

    Nice watch..

    • Raymond Wilkie

      We have a winner!.

      • Jay Wick

        That you, B?

  • will ore

What a way to bring out a,watch enthusiast! Give them a new beautiful watch. Love it!

  • Lyndon Tan

    Cool watch!

To be honest, I don’t have plans to purchase watches this year, though I enjoy reading articles and watching YouTube videos to learn more about watches.

  • Justin L.

I just recently started into watch collecting right at the entry level area, and I’m looking to move out of the quartz field and into the mechanical, so the LIV GX1 would be perfect. Love the look of the sandwich dial and the overall style and aesthetic of the watch–very sporty and bold.

For 2018, I’m currently obsessed with Hamilton watches, specifically the Flintridge Gent and the Ventura Elvis80. Maybe some day I can take the dive into luxury watches, but for now I’m happy where I’m at.

  • Hirasdo Julius

I’m planning to acquire a german piece for my 1st german trip memento and later another watch (not yet decided) for my MBA internship memento #fingercrossed . As for my collection style, I’m planning to stick with my current principle, buying a watch that has unique and valid history (not always high in price) e.g. I will choose zodiac seawolf over rolex sub since zodiac created diving watch earlier than rolex 😛

  • Jay Wick

    Good

  • Jeff Story

My plan for 2018 is to learn more about some of the independent brands, and hopefully add a custom watch by one of them to my collection by the end of the year.

    • Jay Wick

If you can afford one, consider the fine timepieces of Lucerne-based Ochs und Junior.

  • Norman Lever

For a ‘budget’ watch, there appears to be great attention to detail on the finishing. The metalwork on the bezel and the finish of the crown say a lot for the manufacturer’s attitude to consumers

  • Cesar Augusto Guerios

I like this watch style , design, and cool looking .

  • Brett Lintvelt

Planning to acquire some more high quality vintage auto’s this year. The LIV fits the affordable daily beater niche nicely

  • Tea Hound

    No.

  • Vincent Kruse

Watch collecting goals for 2018… Wow… Not really something I plan, unless there is a really special piece I’m after. At the moment nothing is planned for 2018. I recently funded a watch on KickStarter, so for the immediate future, that’s on my collection path for 2018. Other than that, it would be cool to win this watch to use as my “go to” watch when riding my bike.

  • rusty Anderson

Wonder if my 2018 expenditure will exceed 2017’s?

  • Everette Eats World channel

My goals for this year include budgeting in a watch to get my grandson starting into watches. I think finding those that might have cross-interest would be worth looking into. This could include sports or auto related, maybe even literature (think on that one).

  • Zoran Filipovic

    Watch is always great giveaway…

  • Edward

very nice watch. my aquirement plans for new watches in 2018 are for expanding my humble collection are as follows…no new watches except the ones I win. maybe some new straps but I have a little economic pinch going on…cheers!

  • Justin R.

My goal is to start the year by winning a new automatic watch!

  • Abdul H

I’m not thinking about collecting watches in 2018 as I’m now practically have no income. Shouldn’t have spent my morning on entering all of these perpetually unwinnable giveaways but the lure of effortless reward is too tempting. My plan on growing as a watch enthusiast? I’ll try to type more than just one sentence in ABTW monthly giveaway comment thread and read more articles other than the giveaway one. I’m sorry.

  • Paulo Almeida

    Great look

  • Lincolnshire Poacher

I’ve got my collection back down to 12. By selling a few watches. My goal for 2018 is to raise the overall quality of the watches, and having an approximate one in one out system,
I’d rather have a few quality watches which I wear, rather than lots, some of which I wouldn’t wear.

  • Fitifazrul Rahman

I’m not planning to add any in 2018 because of the current economy in Malaysia.

  • Andreas

In 2018 I will be more selective when purchasing pieces for my collection. That doesn’t have to mean more expensive though. Watch brands will have to be of strong design, well priced, very good in quality and innovative in material choices to interest me. LIV ticks some of the boxes already. Let’s see what the new year brings.

  • Steve M

For 2018 I have been guaranteed my Rolex Green Sub from an AD. I would also consider a vintage Zenith and a current day Oris pilot watch to add to my collection.

  • SuperStrapper

No idea if I’ll buy a watch this year or not. Every time I think about it I either don’t have a hole in my collection to fill or can’t afford the watch I actually want.

  • manivelle

my goal is to resist the almost daily temptation to buy, and to place priority on education rather than consumption. Of course, that was my goal last year and,….

  • mtnsicl

My next watch will be a fitness watch. Sometime this year I’ll get one.

  • SH

I have 2 dive watches coming. This would be a perfect addition.

  • Hatebreeder

Excellent design, great attention to detail, and it’s Swiss. There are 2 things there Swiss are really famous for, chocolates, and watch movements (and of course the army knives!). Already have an army knife, eaten lots of chocolates, time to add this watch to the list!

Have recently gotten into the watch enthusiasm and it is an interesting field! The details and precision in the movement is eye watering! Already own a Seiko automatic and have set my eyes on the Orient right now. This watch should be a great addition to my collection!

  • Martin Chiu

Budget permitting, I would like to add a black PVD/DLC watch or a GMT. I will continue to follow blogs like ABTW and others that emphasize value and design.

  • Jason Nifong

I’m hoping to have all the bases covered by end of 2018, I have a couple of entry level divers, and a dress watch, all from conservative established manufacturers. I’d like to give my collection more depth in the coming year with something unique & this would make a great addition!

  • Kumaran Ramu

My current collection of automatic watches – invicta, Ball bronze star. Quartz – Casio marine gear, fossil & an indian luxury brand slimline (Titan edge). In 2018 i am planning on buying a Japanese automatic watch, preferably titanium with snowflake dial, you know what i am talking about.

  • Durga Prasad Akhnoor

I have the regular luxury brand Swiss automatic watches. Looking out for a hand wound mechanical watch preferably with a power reserve indicator for purchase in 2018. An Oris Artelier, Seiko Presage and Nomos Tangente Gangreserve are on my wish list. Black and Dark blue dial preferred.

  • Ranchracer

2018 – Less quantity, more quality.

  • TheM

I’m waiting for the new Casio Rangeman to see if this will close the gap for the rugged outdoor do-it-all. Apart from that it’ll be just watching and learning as af having set the priorities there won’t be any budget in this years plan for anything else.

  • M?n Phi

I find myself now interested in vintage watches and still looking for a “true” vintage piece 🙂

  • iBradcon

My goal is to collect more watches from smaller and less well known brands. More kickstarters and watches only true watch nerds will appreciate.

  • Martin

Would like to expand my sporty collection, I find Casios to be my goal for this year 🙂 Would like to have an opportunity to own/buy/try one true lifetime piece…Explorer II polar dial is my grail. Would be nice to know more abot mechanical watches

  • Jesper

I’m saving up for IWC Ingenieur this year and I think that’s the only new watch this year, but who knows…..

  • Linus Masimov

I’m looking into buying my first sub 5000, possibly a Black Bay. Also I’d like to pick up a vintage dress watch, a sub 1000 office beater and a G-shock.

  • disqus_Irkr6nv9Tw

Great timepiece from a Hofstadter microbrand

  • George Tsatalios

    A great looking watch

  • Jim B

I plan to purchase more micro-brand time pieces since my latest purchase of a Melbourne Watch Port Sea is so perfect for a sub 1k watch.

  • Sam Sanada

My goal for 2018 is to expand my collection of some nice vintage autos!

  • Alexei Nosachenko

My goal for 2018 is to find an appropriate replacement for a 10-year old Certina DS Cascadeur chronograph I sold last year.

  • Fong Wan Kit

My watch collecting goal is to learn to appreciate watches and watchmaking more. I feel like I am still very much a noob in this. My purchasing goal is also to finally get one of my grail watches.

  • Klammeraffe

For 2018, I plan to save some money and invest in a decent time piece which upgrades my collection. Maybe, a micro-brand or a new Seiko or Orient might add some spice and fun to my daily watch-life.

  • Louis Cheng

My goal is to cut down on impulsive purchases which I regretted very much doing in 2017. Save more money for decent pieces.

  • Trevor Scofield

My goal is to collect some of the smaller brand pieces SevenFriday, Liv, and Gorilla to name a few.

  • 12 Watches one new for each month.

  • Sean OConnor

I am still very new and only 2 quality watches in my collection. I would like to add one watch this year (did not have the opportunity the last few years). I also need to dedicate some time just to get generally smarter at this hobby.

  • Wotan Petersen

My goal would be to upgrade my collection and replace some of my seikos with their upscale counterparts. In reality, as funding is a definite issue I will probably be ending up just selling and funding some nice new Ventures in the Microbrand Cosmos.

  • Mika Vääräniemi

Simply: Quality over quantity. One watch for one purpose.

  • Tan Tai Nguyen

Quality over quantity. One watch for one purpose. <3 If i have this , i will do a close-up review

  • ted

I plan on adding a LIV watch to it,gint

  • Bill Clarke

Stylish looking watch at a great price!
My additions in 2017 were an Alpina Chrono, a Seiko 5 and a G-Shock, so 2018 is about saving for my next higher end model – Would just love to get a Daytona (Though various vintage Speedmaster models keep distracting me!) – Will keep scouring local and online dealers for the right model at the right price.

  • Mark Mason

I have a small collection of one diver, one military and one flieger (plus a smart watch). So, for 2018 I’m looking to add a dress watch to my collection, wanting to collect one nice quality watch for each purpose and not spending too much money.

  • Barzuma

At first glance, I thought it has a carbon fiber body.

  • István Rei

My goal is to collect one watch from less well known brand.

  • vasilis mavroidis

    happy new year

  • Marius Sandu

For 2018 I want one more premium watch.

  • Miguel -MO

    Great looking watch.

  • ricsif

    Already too much 🙂

  • Ville Ranne

    Pretty nice!

  • Nick

I’m hoping to use my pay rise to either go mad and get a watch for several thousand, or getting the Oris Aquis Staghorn so I can give something to charity while buying a watch!

  • Greg

Nearly 3 years since last bug watch purchase so hoping to sneak another one past my wife’s gaze this year.

  • Gjore Ristevski

    Good looking watch!

    Plans for 2018 so far

  • Tobi Tool

My goals for 2018 are to get one or more new automatic sports watches, maybe some of the diver classics by Seiko or Citizen. I plan to grow as a watch enthusiast, by reading watch blogs and watching YT videos. By the way, the LIV GX1 is an awesome watch.

  • Pete Perez

    Very bold, like the colors

  • Bruno Borge

My goal for 2018 is to get a Rolex and of course a LIV GX1 too.

  • puddlejumper

HNY! I’m looking at a new Kickstarter product and another chronograph for the upcoming year. I’ve yet to find the right Swiss piece for my collection as well!

  • J Sicinski

Happy New Year! I am going to add a bit of diversity to my small, basic collection with a casual tool or field watch. I am planning on a deep dive into the history of Jaeger Le Coultre as a hobby project for the new year.

  • FollowPhil

I love the way the bezel and strap come together on the LIV GX1. I would love to have this watch for my collection, as it would fit into my collecting plans for this year. I want to diminish the number of watches I have, keeping the ones I truly love and don’t get to wear as much because of the number I have.

  • grandma 1

This year I plan on accumulating more watches to my selection. I want to be able to give them among my three grand children. nice keep sakes. every time they look at the time it will remind them of me and how much I love them. • Fabio Lio

  • angela

  • Sergio Verduzco Jr

  • Mark Silverstein

My goal for 2018 is to add another classic watch brand to my collection. Swiss, German or high end Japanese, I am not sure yet.

  • Agnar Sidhu

My goals for 2018 is to keep saving on a monthly basis and purchase my first “real” watch. My dream would be the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Supercharged.

  • Jerry Davis

My only goal is to a a watch to my collection.
I was given a set of watch repair tools recently so now I can learn to do
minor repairs and adjustments for myself. Glad of that.

  • Prabhupada Vishmaryiah Saravah

Today, there are 32 watches in my collection. Some Seikos, Orient, Casios, A swiss sterile gold plated 40’s Chronograph, some chinese hand wind watches, smartwatches and also some cheap sterile chinese quartz that I like to customize myself changing glass, hands, calibre and straps.
For 2018 my goal is to learn more about customization processes, especially PVD and DLC coatings and lume application.

  • D.C.

My goal is to collect a few pieces in black…this fits the bill nicely!

  • Erik Ho

Just start my collection in 2017.

  • Brian Hemphill

2018 watch goals… Enjoy the watches I have, maybe sell one and pick up another in the pilot category. Keep my eyes peeled for good deals, keep reading, researching & learning more about horology. I may try my hand at modding some lower end seiko’s and moving up to higher end mods. I have the urge to give some of my friends automatic watches to see if I can spark the dormant passion of watches in others.

  • SBUBandit

I just started my collection in 2017, but in 2018 I’m going to watch for a deal on a black Submariner style diver to put on a black/grey NATO strap, ala 007 Spectre

  • Sandi Tymchuk

My husband loves watches, and this would be such a wonderful sporty watch to add to his collection!

  • Sandi Tymchuk

I’m biting the bullet (or Apple) will try the Apple Watch 3 this yr to see if it’s function or fiction.

  • sensemille

the goals for my collection this year are to have one watch for each type of occasion. I am still missing a dress watch.. I find it quite difficult to choose a dress watch as the really nice ones are out of my price range… as for growing as a watch enthusiast, the first step for me would be to buy a nice rare vintage watch. Maybe a Seiko for starters..

  • peter de jong

sometimes the outside hides the inside, this time the outside enforces the inside

  • Antonio Hernando

In this 2018 I want to complete my collection with a Seagull 1963 and, perhaps, my first swiss, a Hamilton Khaki King. I’ll have to persuade my wife and family… perhaps they could present to me one or both for my birthday ?

  • Kimberly H

I want to get more avid in collecting vintage type watches thanks for the chance to win 🙂

  • logomachy

    No big goals.

  • Dario Val

Would love to have it. Big fan of you
    Best regards from Sicily?

  • Ryanc2lrjet Courtney

Love the design of the numerals and the bold orange and black! This is one watch that would get a lot of time on the wrist. LIV is on my list for a next purchase. Pricing under a $1000 for a Swiss automatic is music to my ears!

  • Lilian Manlapaz

I love watches. My first watch was a Citizen watch hand me down from my dad. I have my own collection of watches that include Guess watch, Citizen watch, etc. My dad passed a year ago and I have his watches. I use the Keneth Cole which has a classic design. I hope to have one like LIV and an Omega.

  • Vladimir Zahariev

    Very cool look

  • Allen Ross

I would like to focus more on quality versus quantity, and to increase my knowledge of Watch movements in the specific watches that are in my collection.

  • Mohamed Azim

cool design..would love to get one..

  • RD

Right now I’m pretty sold on my collection. If anything, I may look to add a G-shock as more of a beater watch.

  • Kyle Herret

I always love the straps on these sport watches. Cool looking but works better when doing outdoor activities for me.

  • johnwithanh

Getting a G-Shock as a yard work/exercise watch; Something classier TBD for the office; and always learning, learning, learning.

  • Brandon Clark

My watch collecting goals for 2018 include acquiring a Farer Endeavor Aqua Compressor to expand my collection of dive watches (which currently sits at 0), an IW&F Apollo (because I’m a space nerd), and maybe a Zelos Helmsman 2. My plans for growing as an enthusiast are to become more educated on the industry and attend at least one major watch fair this year!

  • Paytrose

I’d like to grow my collection by obtaining some of the highly respected brands and understand the appreciation for these brands. Some brands I look forward to purchasing is a Timex, Seiko 5, and a Swatch Sistem51.

  • koalaty

A new find in the New Year…Awesome.

  • Darh109

I’d like to add a couple from “The List” and learn about working on watches too.

  • Stefan Bigsby

This watch pushes my boundaries of having too much chaos on the dial. However, there are so many well addressed details that I can overlook the push past minimal. The numeral font is pleasing to the eye and the machined face is a great feature. I am a fan of the logo as well as the textured bezel, and the white odd-hour indices are well thought. I also appreciate the detail stripe on the crown.

  • Lorna Queen

I’m looking to buy a few basic pieces to start my collection!

  • awildermode

Hoping to win this watch to add to my collection, a great way to start 2018.

  • Daniel Harper

Hoping to get my very first Rolex in 2018, a RG Two-Toned Datejust 41 w/ chocolate dial and fluted bezel. I did just receive a 12 slot watch case from my wife for Christmas, so I consider that somewhat of a nod of support to my obsession/passion of watches. I hope to have 3 more of those slots filled throughout 2018!

  • I need to get fatter before I can start collecting current watches. I got small skinny wrists so… I intend to fully explore my Romanian roots. One of the cornerstones of Romanian wisdom is the belief “Pork is the best Vegetable”

  • Adam

Honestly, I don’t know that the collection (meager as it is) will be growing much with a new baby taking up most if not all of our valuable resources. So, it’ll probably be another year of entered giveaways and crossed fingers. Thanks for the chance!

  • Alfredo Rivera

In 2018 I have BIG plans not just in my collection but in my future, I will start working in a watch and jewelry boutique, also I´m going to learn watch restoration and acquiere buy and sell knowledge with my cousins the owners of the boutique.

    Happy new year!

  • Vladislav Krushkov

Well, I like watches. For now I have four and I’m watching forward to add more to the collection. It’s something I wasn’t expecting doing, but here I am. Those boxes full of engineering are piece of art.

  • Andrew Buckley

I have three watch collecting objectives in 2018: 1. downsize my collection; 2. downsize my collection; 3. downsize my collection.

  • Audun G. Kjørsvik

  • Abigail Gibson

I travel throughout the region to various watch tradeshows to admire the rare vintage watches. Although I cannot afford to buy, I can at least see up close.

  • Stephan Beth

This year I would like to go a little outside of my comfort zone (flat, and dress), it being a fortunate happenstance that sometimes those are a little less expensive, and to also read up more on watches which have a near inexistant appeal to me (e.g Rolex).

  • lucasszy

    A great looking automatic.

  • Rounak Lal

I have been an avid watch enthusiast for a number of years, however, due to the exorbitant watch prices in my home country, collecting is a bit of a challenge(too many surcharges) and less of a priority. This year, I hope to step into the foray of watch collection. I hope to begin with a vintage manual wound watch, simple and without complications, and build up from there. I am also hoping to be able to know more about independent brands and hopefully own an independent timepiece in the near future

  • Tainan Lu

My goal for 2018 is to add some classic watches to my collection.

  • Humphrey Mar

In the new year, I might just upgrade watch bands. I don’t feel a tremendous need for more watches.
As per usual, I like to keep my eyes open for new watches, and good value watches.

  • Michael Guillory

Nice looking watch! Hoping to expand my collection this year.

  • Nosh Well

I hope to start a collection this year 😉 Haven’t worn a watch in many years.

  • ShariD

Hubby has a passion for watches.

  • AllYourFache

There’s an insatiable tinkerer in me, one that only recently became really interested in watches. So one of my goals for this year is to begin building one. I picked one that’s pretty popular, parts and pieces easy enough to find, and I’ll put it all together myself. Then that one will be one of the truly special ones.
This is a really interesting piece. I like that the strap ties with the bezel, and the Navy SEALish feel altogether.

  • John Soltis

I love your watch prize! It is very smart looking / sophistigated! In my search for various designer watches in 2018 I look to Analog NOT smart watches! – as I love old classic designs like Aviator style waches, Army type designs and Modern type waches also! Good luck to “All Watch Seekers in 2018!”

  • Lisa Sheldon

I have a good start on a watch collection but am hoping to add to it in 2018 by watching for sales and on auction sites.

  • AbrightP

Wanna get a Bremont piece in 18. Probably the Boeing Titanium.
Hope to learn more about movement mechanism, especially for complicated functions.

  • Chris MacEwen

I have some nice watches . Some have Swiss movements in them . One of my watches is waterproof enough to let you wear it while swimming. I would like to buy a 1960’s Rolex . I like the style of the older ones!

  • Steve Haley

My next purchase will most likely be a Rolex GMT. I haven’t quite decided on which reference it will be, but figuring that out is half the fun.

  • drhrva

I wish I could really start collecting. Been stuck with 3 watches.

  • Robert. Rantz

Just a gorgeous watch love the orsnge color would be sich a nice part pf my collection.

  • Mr. Mechanico

I would like to own a moonphase watch. While not very practical as measured by modern standards, it is very romantic.

  • Robert. Rantz

Love the red color on the face of the Liv would love a watch like that

  • George(tte) Washington Bunny

This would be a gorgeous watch for my boyfriend, who has recently gotten back into watch collecting.

  • Debbie Snell

  • sonnetdog

Like every year… Watch what is coming out, and wait to be inspired. I got rid of several last year, and brought in one that I wanted to wear most days. Looking for another one to switch around with it.

I don’t really have any goals this year for collecting like I usually do, but that won’t stop me when I see something just too fabulous to pass up.

  • james

    Would love the watch
In 2018 I want to collect 1-2 new wristwatches and have been tinkering with watch maintenance and would like to grow as a watch enthusiast by taking instructed training in watch care and maintenance.

For 2018, I wish to have some diver watchs with more unique design, not always homeage to some big brand, of course the size should under 45mm.

Well, I have daily wear and weekend watches that I love, and a beater. All are quartz. I’d like a Rado Capt Cook 45, but this year? Not sure I’ll make that…

  • #The Deplorable Boogur T. Wang

Legible, reliable and with a screw-down crown for anti-dust intrusion. For 2018 I endeavor to be more ‘inclusive’ of watched not previously considered.

  • IMHOFWIW

I don’t have a watch like this, I just try to get many different kinds and colors.

  • Tandi Cortez

Skip the cheapies and get the watches worth the money. I love this one!

  • Jason Hackworth

I plan to add a watch from Italy to my collection.

  • johnnyc40

This years goal is to get rid of some of my collection, get down to a core of my ideal watches. That will then leave a little space for a JLC Reverso Classic Duo face 🙂

  • Sara S

For the holidays I had batteries put in 6 of my hubby’s watches. I plan on continuing to enable my husband’s watch habit in 2018. It keeps him from judging my shoe habit! I follow on Instagram as @sully1128.

  • markathy

My son loves watches and I get him a new one every year plus batteries for the ones that have died

  • Dirtybirdsoaps

I plan on adding at least one high quality watch to my collection. I’m not sure on brand yet but thinking something different to stand out in my collection. Maybe add a nice diver watch or even a Ball.

  • Joshua Smith

For 2018 I plan to refocus on some of my vintage pieces that need some maintenance and love. I’m hoping to develop some watchmaker skills by attempting some maintenance on my own.

  • M. Rogers

After a year off of purchasing any watches, looking to add a couple of sporty watches in 2018.

  • ivan j

I have 5 quartz based watches and one automatic (vostok). This year I plan to update my collection with at least one more automatic watch

  • Uriar

I actually want to downsize my collection in 2018. To many watches and not enough wrist time. But if I win this giveaway I’ll keep it and flip another one. Thanks for the chance.

  • Michael Harvey

The stunning design of the LIV GX1 Automatic caught my eye right away! It’s nice to see some real innovative design. I plan to go abroad in the spring, and will shop for some obscure European brands that are not sold here.

My goals for 2018 are to get a collection started. Just got my first real job and watches will be my first major purchase. The LIV GX1 would be a great start!

  • funNactive

2018: I plan on selling part of my collection (lower end watches I don’t wear). Lately, I’ve been purchasing micro brands. The majority of my collection is sub $1,000. For 2018, I want to start saving for high end pieces I will want to put into my will.

  • FeedMe

  • photog7

My goal is to get a Swiss watch in 2018. Not sure which brand yet.

  • Laurence

These Watches are great. Very comfortable and high quality.

  • Anne Clark

This looks edgy but still comfortable and functional. After wearing watches for years as a first responder (for counting vital signs and having constant deadlines, I quit wearing them after retiring but realized that I really missed them, both for the convenience and the ability to time things easily. I’m a watch person again, and would love to get my son started in that habit with this one.

  • Mike Hanlon

cool looking watch, im a huge fan of that bezel. watch collecting goals for 2018 would be the addition of a Raymond Weil chronograph with a guilloche dial

  • Won Matt

Love the look of this watch. My 2018 goal is to purchase and promote watches that take the care and attention to detail all around.

  • Nixa

Goal: Getting only one sub 1k piece I’ve had my eye on and saving for a more expensive one. Growing as an enthusiast: I will keep reading, researching and fostering relationships with others in the horology space.

  • SS

I hope to start a collection this year. I haven’t worn a watch in many years.

  • David Hope

This looks like a beautifully constructed time piece. Well done to the designers and makers of the watch.

  • LP

I would like to get one of the new collection Omega watches (railmaster or speedmaster) but depends on if I can find the money / save enough

  • Ilya Evgenevich

Happy New year! In 2018 I’m going to win your watches & repair my old watches

  • Janko Bajagic

As far as the collection is concerned, the goal is to obtain one of the more affordable grails on the list.
As an enthusiast, get more involved in forums and face to face meets instead of just reading posts.

  • Doober

Just started collecting watches in 2016, and continue on. I have been interested in LIV watches since seeing one for the first time about 6 months ago. They are very beautiful pieces.

  • Liz

I’d like to get a rolex or maybe a tudor

  • amiller1955

I started collecting watches 20 years ago but had to sell off many of them due to financial difficulties. I’m now starting again and this beautiful watch would be a welcome addition. It would also get plenty of use on Caribbean vacations.

  • Daniel Park

My goal is to not buy anything this year and save up for an Omega

  • Janice

    Beautiful-watch

  • markahaviland

One beautiful watch, the LIV has very sporty lines, and an impressive watch face.

  • Andrea Rueff

These are very nice watches. I have read almost everything about it and I want one. Winning one would be really nice for me. I am in recovering a TBI and I am doing pretty good. My last watch I lost in the accident and I bought a $5 watch from Walmart. Not good but still tells time.

  • RF96

    Less is more!

My watch goals for the year involve spending less on vintages I find quirky or interesting and more on a quality splurge- perhaps my first Patek even! As an enthusiast, I plan on attending my first fair this year- just to find out more about the business and industry side of watch collecting.

  • Hevil

I would like to finally add to my collection a vintage Rolex 1601 with silver or champagne dial… Endless love!

  • Andrew Hochberg

A most handsome integrated design, particularly love the flow between the textured canvas strap, bezel and black coated case. Nice use of orange too, has the genes and vibe of somebody’s official SAR watch. As for me I plan to continue my Tudor and Omega centric collection. Personally,I would seriously consider buying this watch for my own collection.

  • Robert Carson

My near-term watch collecting goals are to add something with tritium (front-runner is the Traser Jungmeister) and a favourite of mine – the Hamilton Titanium Auto – to my collection. I doubt I’ll achieve both of these goals in 2018, but one would be nice.

As for growing as a watch enthusiast…I don’t have the budget to grow my collection very quickly, so my plan is to continue to use this blog to keep tabs on the industry and stay aware of what is out there.

  • Kevin Peterson

my goal is to save enough for a Tudor. simple Black Bay 36.

  • Maxtor

My goal is to make sure that all the watches in my modest collection get into active rotation. Not just the favorites. No point collecting them if I don’t wear them!

  • Christopher Higuera

My goal is to finally get the Latest generation Apple Watch. I’d dream of owning a watch that can make calls without a phone nearby and the time has come!

  • WhiskersInCalif

My watch collecting collecting goals for 2018 are modest. I am looking harder at the subtles of the motion and legibility of the face. Skeleton designs give a window to that workings. The new solar and designs are satisfying my wish for accuracy. My plan on growing as a watch enthusiast is to pass on smart watches and pay attention to the pleasure of winding my automatics and solar watches by walking the dogs more and smelling the roses.

  • Brad Green

As much as I would love to say I have purchasing goals for 2018, I cannot. The budget is tight this year. With that said, I’m always keeping my eyes open for pieces that are rare but yet inexpensive, so it’s unlikely that I’ll actually make it through this year without any purchases whatsoever. As an enthusiast I hope to continue learning from this site and the small handful of other sites that I read every day.

  • yuri

    Hi
I started collecting watches in 2015. By coincidence I became interested in LIV watches since the beginning. They are very beautiful pieces. Now I have 3 Liv pieces and planning to have the fourth. My goal for 2018 is an Tag Heuer.

  • Konstantinos Adamopoulos

that’s a really nice and innovative watch. My goals for 2018 is a Zenith El Primero striking 10th

  • Marc-Alexandre Nolin

I plan to expand my watch collection by winning a watch in the 2018 Giveaways of ablogtowatch.com 🙂

  • adnan ali

this would be a huge upgrade to my collection! i only have 2 quartz watches and if i won this then it would be my first automatic watch! my watch goal for 2018 is to get a automatic watch.

  • gtbr

i don’t have a huge collection but i would like to add a really quality mechanic watch.

  • Don Barnes

Beautiful watch, which would be a nice addition to my collection, and a new brand. I have about 20 watches, and recently tried the Monthly Watch Club out of Calgary. I stayed for several months but recently quit due to overall quality issues. Nice watches for the most part, and different, but a couple were problematic (an alarm that goes off for unknown reasons as random times and another that could not have the time set), and the customer service was slow. Maybe I’ll find a similar but better club through this site (which I was not aware of until now!).

  • very aggressive design, and nice numbers!! It would be a nice addition to my collection.

  • Colton Law

The LIV GX1 is an amazing looking watch with a colour palette that I have been attracted to for a very long time. I began collecting watches after I took a trip to Europe where I was able to enter several specialty watch shops, and learned many things from the store clerks that could speak English. My collection has been growing for several years. I recently purchased a L.P. which made me fall in love with the brand’s unique faces and complications. An automatic watch would be a great addition, but I am much more interested in owning a piece that is swiss-made vs swiss-movement. The waterproof case fits my needs in my current occupation, as well as the size of the piece which is identical to most of my collection. All in all a very good timepiece that I would be very glad to own.

  • Kevin Beard

My collecting goals are to pick up a couple nice pieces this year. I’m going to continue to buy when I can find a bargain, and wait for the right price. I got a Ball Engineer the end of 2017, I’m thinking of getting something with really great lume. I’m also going to dump about $500 into waffles (watch raffles) and see if I can win a luxury piece. As far as growing in the hobby, I’m going to my first meeting of a local watch group this month.

  • Gary noll

Nice color, design and I’m glad its not oversized. Im so tired of 48mm watches. Reasonable price.

  • Deri Williams

A watch enthusiast (shop window looker) who did not know he had a 2018 watch collection goal. This goal has already been completed and all pretty much by accident. Browsing a high end watch shop window, as all us watch boys do. I was no way expecting to try any on, let alone buy. I saw a fantastic price on a watch I thought way out of price range – end of model version which happened to be in the sale and only one left in the UK. Tried it on and could not stop thinking about it for days. Then today I bought it and on 0% finance for less than a monthly sky package and less than a pre-owned version. A very happy watch shop window looked. I will continue to read the watch blogs, magazine’s and new and pre owned websites but my watch buying is done for 2018.

  • Deb

my watch collecting goal for 2018 is to buy a Tudor Glamour or Oris Artelier Calibre 112. Since I only have money to buy one, it will be a hard decision to make. It will obviously come down to which looks better on me. I don’t belong to any watch groups so I read a lot about them. I just try and absorb the information from one watch to another. I try to buy one luxury watch a year ($2500-4000+) and one mid range ($1000). Of course, those are my prices for luxury and mid-range.

  • Steve Jacobs

Great looking watch. I don’t have any specific goals but if something gets my attention, I’ll go for it.

  • ?????

Nice watch, carries a summer aura. Goals…was thinking about either a steinhart ocean 1 or the infamous seiko alpinist on a steel bracelet. Budget is always a factor to consider! Happy New Year with the wish to see a 1000 euro diver’s Rolex that would break the market 😀

  • Pepe Gar

I want to get again an Oris Carlos Costes after the one I had in the past helped me in tough financial times. Budget is a constrain but I’ll get it back and if possible a nice Zenith el Primero. Being a watch enthusiast is getting news, digging into data and giving value to any watch, as such as, brand to learn the most. Still I have lot to learn.

  • Mark Rivera

My goal for 2018 is to further educate myself on the watch industry and add at least one watch to my small collection; not sure what but maybe a Tudor Heritage or Fastrider Chrono.

For 2019 however, my wife and I are planning on a trip that will include a few days in Switzerland; our itinerary will include visiting one of the great manufacturers (or their museum) in Geneva and/or Biel/Bienne…

  • Andrew Morgan

What a lovely watch the LIV GX1 is and I would love to own it. With respect to my watch collecting goals in 2018, I’d have to say that I’d like to acquire a quality, Swiss Made watch. I’ve always liked the look of sporty divers watches and there are some really nice ones out there that I’d love to own. Living near the ocean means that I need a watch that can handle tough conditions and I want a watch that can handle the demands of ocean swimming and shallow dives. I’ve seen some lovely Christopher Ward watches such as those in its Trident Diver range which I particularly love. Maybe that will be my focus for this year.

  • Sam Kryszek

Cool watch. Hoping in 2018 to finally be able grab one of my grails and expand more into higher end horology.

  • LapYoda

My goals for 2018 are to continue consolidating by selling pieces I just don’t wear anymore and using the funds to purchase something higher-end that I really want. Last year I sold off many of my microbrand pieces so I could get a Speedy Pro, but old habits die hard and I’ve already ordered 2 inexpensive watches. We’ll see if those are keepers or flippers.

  • Samson Chung

My goal for 2018 is definitely a Tudor black bay bronze! Have been looking for it high and low for it! Have to continue looking and also save up for it. ? if not the Tudor, a Swiss automatic diver will be my target. ?
A Liv GX1 will be an awesome to my watch collection though! Pick me!!

  • Mark G.

I have a few orange and black watches…This would make a nice addition. My goal for 2018 will be to limit myself to one watch (who am I kidding, lol). I just LOVE timepieces and am very addicted.

  • wallyboy23 .

The watch is bold, and the movement is solid. Oris et al. charge more for less. Watch collecting for 2018 goals? Have a United Nations of watch brands in my drawer. Some swiss ; e.g. tissot, mido, rado, a german or two; steinhart, archimede, stowa, a few japanese; seiko and orient, and an american; weiss. Cheers

  • Fearless_fx

My watch collecting goal has always been to own a Rolex, I hope to do so in the next 3 years and I am saving to purchase my first entry level Rolex.

  • I’ve always wanted a Nomos. Hopefully I can save up enough for one this year.

  • Erin Newhouse

Awesome. I would be so happy to have this watch. I like the bold and original look to it. Thank you!

  • Tim Nicholls

My watch collecting goals are quite small. I plan on purchasing this year, a lower end watch, that still has appeal and quality and fit for purpose. I enjoy a divers watch or a watch fit for use outdoors. So Steinhart, Panerai, Helson, Maranez, Sinn, Zelos are in my eye this year.

  • tiffany dayton

My husband loves watches. I would love to win this for him

  • Nabil Jain

I hope that I can start collecting watches this year, with hopefully automatic watches

  • Paolo C.

About my collecting goals, well, I think I will buy a low end watch, not more than this. Surely about how I plan on growing as a watch enthusiast, I will stay informed about new watches that will go out this year and informations about them.

  • Wilson Meeks

Looking for well-priced tool watches with interesting design and functions.

  • PAJOE

Would be a nice and different addition to my collection, would love it.

  • I haven’t collected watches before but someone recently told me they did this and I think I may start this year

  • JACK ROSENFELD

I”ve been collecting watches for decades and have many styles and types. Most recently i’ve been leaning towards automatics because i’m tired of replacing batteries. The LIV GX1 as presented here would be perfect for me since it is BLACK & ORANGE and i’m a Phila. FLYERS fan !!

  • Jorge Miranda

I am a watch enthusiast with currently a modest small collection composed by two sportive GMT; one dressy – all automatic and Swiss made – and one japanese quartz.

I’ve acquired in the past, no longer in my wrist, a chinese tourbillon as well other swiss and japanese based movements watches.

It take me considerably amount of time reading reviews and pay visits to boutiques and shops when decides to add a new watch to myself due the several considerations I have in mind such as movement accuracy, case-bezel-strap band material and other aspects related like after service etc.

I am interested into get, for 2018, a bronze watch or at least a watch that contained this material in it, such in the bezel. I am interested also into obtained a black dial and black case watch preferably in ceramic. Have many options in mind. I have not acquired an automatic chronograph yet.

  • Jonathan Grandas

    I really want it

  • Stanislav Timochkin

    nice watch

  • Pedro Gouveia

    what a design!

  • DP

A beautiful watch, great design. My watch goals for 2018 are to support some micro-brands and add a few of them to my collection. The Hauttman Deep Discovery chrono (featured on ABTW) looks amazing. Plus I’m really interested in a grab-and-go quartz like a Scurfa Diver One. And maybe buy a Bulova Moon Watch chrono in black…

  • Paul Martin

As a new watch fan and nube collector my collection has started with some good but medium price pieces, Hamilton Navy Scuba, Glycine sub vintage, Seiko 007, Orient ray, and a few other cheaper Automatics, love divers, 2018 I would love to pick up a Oris, Glycine combat sub or a squale.
This giveaway watch would be a great piece to start the year with and fantastic addition to my new collection.

  • Noah Joseph

I’d love to replace the busted NOA watch I used to enjoy.

  • Robin Van der Straeten

I’d like to add a vintage (pre-1970’s) watch to my collection.

  • Surso S.

i used to have lots of watches but they are all in need of repair i love how this one looks

  • Claudiu

My plan is to stop watch collecting for 2018. Like all new year’s resolutions, it is very likely to fail.

  • KevinHiggins

The GX1 is my style of watch, simple with just a second hand and date. Not cluttered up with all the extra buttons and functions that I rarely use.
For 2018 I will continue to keep informed about the watch industry by reading A Blog to Watch and keep my eyes open for a new divers watch.

  • PAltares

My goals as far as collecting are pretty much the same as always, although this year I think I’ll be saving a little longer to buy a bit more quality pieces than usual. More so than that though, I’ve been getting more involved in facebook groups and also watching videos to widen my knowledge. I am also going to try my hand at piecing together my own watch, not only because it’s something I’ve wanted to do since I became interested in watches, but also to further my understanding of the more technical aspects of matchmaking.

  • Tony Tramel

I have about 40 watches in my collection but have no automatic watches, so this would be awesome to have and start with, to buy or win either way is good!!

  • Nick D.

For 2018, I intend to expand my knowledge on vintage watches. Until now, I mostly bought new, Swiss automatic watches. But I just can’t keep up with the prices (and my girlfriend disapproving eyes). I want to learn more on overlooked models and minor brands that, hopefully, can fuel my passion of watches without losing my shirts.

  • Darren Williams

For 2018 I want to find the right display watch case with winders so that my next Asian trip I can find some more watches.

  • Mike F

I love swiss autos and this one is gorgeous. This LIV would serve a a beautiful and functional daily wearer. I accept your challenge and “Dare to LIV” with this LIV and some planned winter escape activities in the Dominican.

  • Anne C

That is a beautiful watch! I like watches with designs and functionalities that will stand the test of time.

  • Bram van Leeuwen

What a beautyful watch. I would like to have new watches every month this year with one special watch one i thought i could never afford. This one i will wear till me unborn son could wear it and pass it on. But for now thats just a dream..

  • Alex Strîmbeanu

For 2018 I plan to upgrade my collection with an Apple Watch 3 and a Seiko Turtle. Also, this would look great in my collection.

  • Gabi Balas-Baconschi

What a watch ! I remember that I saw it on kickstarter, and it was a super great deal !

For this year, I am planning to grow my collection with other automatics. I am planning for other calibers that I don’t have in my collection. I am planning to read and to learn more about watches this year.

A moonphase watch (auto with big moon) could me my next goal for this year.

  • Chris mclain

very well fine watch, especially from the standpoint its a newer company. And the price point is commendable. I’m an avid collector but in these tough times it’d been much harder to maintain even basic watches.. This would be a good blessing to 2018 to win this watch.

  • sam-b

My next collecting goal is a Oris Divers sixty-five with a dark blue dial. A piece of timeless elegance, fine quality and fair pricing.
Besides I plan to visit the manufactories of Nomos and Glashütte Original. I’d love to see the fabrication of A. Lange & Söhne, too – but I’m afraid they won’t let me in…

  • remerus

Learn. Learn. Learn. And then learn some more. Start a savings fund for a grail watch. Make time to visit antique stores and thrift-shops to look for a unicorn.
Pretty much the same as every year, Ms. Sophie 😉

  • Tom Venables

I continually learn about the watch industry by reading your articles and watch reviews. I’m looking to increase my watch collection and have one of my watches fixed this year.

  • Kim Webster

I started a watch collection for my Son when he was tiny & he is now an advide collector! I love finding those special pieces like this to add his collection. ?

  • Sam Moskow

I’m always searching for the next piece to my collection, and I can’t wait to find the perfect piece to take my collection to the next level. I love military inspired watches so an Oris or Bremont is probably on my horizon.

  • Ramon “Oso” Hervas

I have not worn a watch since Palm Treo smart phone was released. Over 15 years ago. Well I have a new job working with these great kids, who sometimes they can get touchy wild on the bad side. The staff and myself need to be able to control the situation and unfortunately 2 screen repairs later I have decided no more phone in the work place. So I am coming back to watches. And this watch is amazing. The technology is beyond my thought. Liv GX1 in Green is amazing looking. Everyone would be shocked that I am wearing a watch and they would be amazed of this very cool looking GX1. Fantastic brand to start my new hobby of watch collecting.

  • Surinder Gurm

My husband ordered a Tissot for me from a store in Amsterdam and totally surprised me months after I saw the ad in a newspaperman

  • David Daniel Trevino

I plan on doing what I can to bolster my collection and fill my new watch box with interesting vintage pieces. I also would like to learn more about building and servicing watches myself and would like to fix several watches that I acquired last year.

  • braba74

Hi, I am becoming more interested in the artistic processes of watchmaking applique, enameling and the introduction of hi tech methods for vacuum coatings on watch faces with various preciuos metals. I also would like to expand the style of watch that I wear. Thanks for the blog by the way!

  • Matthew munstermann

My goal is to win one of these contests!

  • Joel

My goal is to slow down and enjoy what watches I already own.

  • Emiel

My goal is to expand my ‘chrono’s from the late 60ies, ealy 70ies’ collection. I going to continue to search the WWW to expand my knowledge on this matter.

I would like to start collecting mechanical automatic watches and move away from quartz movements

  • Steve Bowden

My watch collecting goal: to haunt estate sales and garage sales and hope to find a gem.

  • Michael Young

My goal is to start collecting to leave my collection for my grandkids. In 2018 I intend to broaden my knowledge of watches.

  • SeanM

I’d like to add a couple of sub $1000 watches to my meager collection

  • George Elgart

Very beautiful modern wristwatch. My big plan for 2018 is to get a decent GMT watch for my collection. It would be great to have one when I travel for work

  • Kevin Dodge

Nice solid timepiece, sleek and classy. 2018 I’m looking for a rugged piece, most likely a divers watch.

  • stumpelriltzchen

My goal is to sell the minor examples in my collection and in turn buy a gold minute repeating pocket watch.

  • Brian Bezel

The LIV GX1 Automatic watch looks durable and sleek. I’d love to win it a put a blue NATO strap on it as a perfect U F Gator fan watch. My 2018 watch goals is to get my first GMT or UTC timepiece

  • Brandon

To visit the Cartier workshops in Switzerland in a European vacation and look for a timepiece in anticipation of starting medical school this year with the Calibre being my top choice.

  • Tre

this watch would be a unique piece to my collection and i would love to win and wear it. my collecting goals this year are focused on micro brands.

  • Leo C.

My watch goals for 2018 is to save up for an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Chronograph. I plan to develop as a watch enthusiast by reading books on horology.

  • Turbo

I just started to be interested in automatic watches a couple of months ago.

My reason: Since the whole world is being digitized and virtualized in an accelerated speed, I started to respect and praise the few analog stuff what’s left. I always did actually, but now there are less and less of these “real” things, and I believe we should preserve them, for the future, as they are going to be only a luxury in a couple of decades. Saying this as being coder for 10+ years, living completely in the digital world (and also creating it).

Until now I only had an interesting “cryptic” led watch to entertain myself and my friends (I still love it actually, very smart idea), and a more traditional quartz one which actually has hands 🙂

In 2018 my plans are to try some of the more quality watches, hopefully at some events or via friends, and perhaps start with buying (winning 🙂 some basic models to get the idea of this whole topic.

ps.: Dark+Orange is my absolute favourite color combination 🙂

  • Daniel D.

Nice watch overall! As for looking forward to 2018, well finding the right Ball, Omega or possibly Orion watch would be satisfactory.

  • durodavid

I would like to get my first swiss made watch this year. And from learning perspective I want to dis and reassemble a mechanical watch.

    Cheers

  • waterson

My goal for this year is not to buy as many watches as I did last year. I want to learn more about German watch making this year and maybe pick up my first German made watch.

  • Austin Phillip

    I Have One Watch.

It Was Passed Down To Me, an old Breitling Navitimer

This Year I Desperately Would Like To add
    The Classic Rolex Submariner /BlackWhite

Its How I’m going to do that, That is the problem
And I’ve No Idea At This Point

    Its a Struggle
    .

  • Benjamin Denay

Nice watch! In 2018 I plan to add to my small collection a dressier watch that’s versatile like a aqua terra or seiko presage. I will also be tuning into ABTW more frequently!

  • mark

Nice watch. I like the face and the fact its an automatic and has scratch resistant sapphire glass. Also water resistant to 100 meters, not that I scuba dive anymore. I looks like a robust watch and I would be happy to wear it.

  • Nello Alexandri

I find the colors used on this watch to be cool. I like orange.
The dial pattern and textures look interesting. I would like to investigate in the flesh.
As a watch enthusiast, I will try to make time to see more watches in person. I have failed miserably at this over the past year.
I plan on adding a conservative dress watch to my collection this year. It will likely be a FC slimline moonphase.
Many thanks to the ABTW team for providing reviews. You are one of about 25 review sites I visit every week. You are my favorite because you cover more affordable timepieces regularly.

  • Tan Tai Nguyen

<3 the orange is really stood out. I wish i could have it in the flesh and do a full review about the texture , dial and the movement <3

  • C. Dator

I like its aggressive and bold design. The hefty and robust construction screams durability come hell or high water. The black, orange, and white combination of colors is definitely utilitarian and complements the functionality of the watch. Sapphire crystal? Surely this has got to be the norm for any Swiss watch and the LIV GX1 Automatic watch is no exception. My watch collecting goals for 2018 are as follows:

    1. Omega Moonwatch Co-axial, 311.30.42.30.01.006
    2. Rolex Submariner No-Date, 114060
    3. Breitling Navitimer, AB012721-C889-453A
    4. Tag Heuer Monaco CAW211P.FC6356
    5. Panerai 372

I plan on acquiring at least 1 out of the 5 listed above this year.

As a watch enthusiast I always keep abreast of the latest trends and innovations in the watch industry while keeping myself firmly planted on the classic brands and models that have survived the test of time. One way of keeping myself updated is by reading the blogs regularly on ablogtowatch.com as well as reading current and past issues of the magazine Watch Time. The other activity I also enjoy is looking at people’s wrist to see what kind of watch they are wearing. Not only is it a very interesting activity, it also somehow gives you an impression of the watch wearer. I think there is definitely a kind of psychology as to what watch people wear.

I will keep collecting watches that appeal to me but at the same time are brands that never die. Watch collecting is as much a hobby as it is a lifestyle.

  • Danijel Tojagic

My plan is to work hard so I can get some money to spend. and than if I do will buy Zenit Elprimero that I wont for 11 years now.

  • NC

Looking to add a collection of straps to match my watches this year. A cheaper way to add to the collection without buying a whole new watch. Definitely will learn to match straps to watches.

  • Alex

I’m taking a year off from buying watches to really appreciate my collection, and save towards a big purchase in 2019. In the meantime I plan to spend more time looking into local get togethers and other opportunities to connect with local watch enthusiasts.

  • disqus_T5URFc1Crb

For 2018, my goal is to expand my horizon by focusing on microbrands or start ups. I have avoided this arena by focusing on heritage and history, thereby prefering more established brands. However, those establisbed brands were once startups, and it would be great to get in in the ground floor or bleeding edge.

Additionally, I intend to trim my collection and fall in love with a few pieces. I’ve started this process by wearing a watch for at least a week, and each day focusing on an element that makes a watch desirable.

  • WISard

This year will be a break from watch buying. I have started to be more interested in watch-repair videos, and understanding watch moments from the aspect of a watch maker/repairer.

  • #The Deplorable Boogur T. Wang

Has a solid look that I truly appreciate.

  • Kevin Gozali

Just started appreciating watches late last year. This year would be to experience watches and find a collection that I liked. So a new watch to get my hands on would be great!

  • TicTocGoesClock

goal: to finally have an automatic watch
growth: to understand how different calibres affect performance

  • jim808

That’s a lovely thing. I’d very much like to win it!

  • adzuan shazli

Goal: to have an affordable yet amart design automatic swiss watch to add in my collection along with seiko diver, g-shock rangeman, pebble smartwatch and swatch. Looking for premium collection for next series/phase as a watch enthusiast..

  • Ben S.

My goal this year is to grow my collection with a nice dive watch and deepen my knowledge of mechanics.

  • brian murphy

what a interesting watch i would love to own it, my goals for my watch collection are to continue to grow it and most importantly wear the watches.

  • Aaron

I plan to spend my time in 2018 learning about watch movements. As for adding to my collection (of one watch), that’s still up in the air. Currently, I’m looking into a simple field watch. Wish me luck.

  • Robin Bullock

I plan on making a higher-end fitness watch in a few months, and will begin to subscribe to timepiece magazines.

  • Bartman Hawaii

Thinking of something very expensive once my payroll check jumps up. Oh, not till next year?

  • Skootertrash

I plan on getting my young daughters their first mechanical watches!

  • Paul Goebel

My watch collecting goal for 2018 is to buy a new dress watch, which I am happy to say I just recently accomplished with a new Baume and Mercier Classima! The watch came with a leather strap so I am now in the process of finding a matching steel bracelet, so you could say my goal for this year is not entirely completed. I plan to grow as a collector by conducting more research on aviator watches, as this is the one watch style that I neither own nor have a “grail” to pursue, so I hope to get to know this space and find something that could further round out my collection.

  • hatster

I missed out on these LIVs on Kickstarter so would be interested to see on in the flesh. I have already hit one watch goal for 2018 and picked up an early Carerra reissue that I had been eyeing for some time. And I think my daughter is just beginning to get the watch bug, so that’s achievement II unlocked (small cushion-cased inexpensive eBay antique watch waiting for her in a drawer, once she truly bites) . I am now looking for an aspirational watch to target for later in the year and also going to widen my (very limited) knowledge of automatic and manual wind movements. And I will endeavor to work more and read watch blogs a little less…..

  • Cho Bon Kim

I plan on getting my son their first mechanical watches!

  • Bogdan Petrache

As my watch collection shrank considerably last year due to our new house needs I hope this year I will be able to recoup a bit. Set my eyes on a certain model from Nivrel, let’s see

  • patrickmoran

I’m a novice when it comes to watch collecting but I have the desire and hopefully the means. So my goal is just to better understand my pursuit of great watches.

  • xyz888

I plan to collect both quartz and mechanicals, because I love both. I also plan to go to more watch events to see and learn more of what is out there.

  • Dan Preda

In 2018 I hope to add to my collection my own make of watches. The first project is assembling a pilot style watch using of the shelf parts (STP1-11 automatic movement, Ickler 39 mm case, pilot style hands) and my own bespoke dial. The second project will be a GMT version of the first watch, using a Sellita SW330-1 automatic movement and again my own bespoke dial.

  • Robert. Rantz

I love the LIV Gx1 wish I can have one just beautiful

  • Jan Gruszczy?ski

To get my first pilot watch, hopefully some B-Uhr. I also plan to learn some watch repairing, on some broken vintage watches.

  • Trent Shelton

For 2018, I’d like to add 2 mechanical pieces to my collection. Something Grand Seiko would be nice.

  • wawan hermawan

For 2018,,i want a diver and a 40 mm b-uhr flieger,,although i have seiko flieger,,it is too small for me,,

  • vonwalpole

Wow! What a bold contemporary design. Its masculine and very now. I wasn’t aware of LIV but can see it becoming the generation ‘now’ sporty watch of choice.

  • Denise M

This year I would really like a Nixon watch – one of the Star Wars designs, and i would like to get my daughter her first watch

  • Braden Messick

This year I would like to grow as an enthusiast by learning to repair mechanical watches. This will also help grow my collections I want to buy old beaters to start learning and work my way up to more complicated movements.

  • Azeem Nazir

Focus on dress watch. Automatic is a must. Dome crystal is even better. Arts and designed dial is a plus point.

  • Steve Kain

for 2018, I’d like to get a simple diver watch that is versatile and rugged. Considering a few Tudor models and non-date submariner.

  • Benjamin Sermersheim

Considering my low budget, I would like to expand my collection with 1-2 decent, more casual watches. Personally, I prefer the bracelet style, but I wouldn’t mind getting a leather or composite material instead.

  • ???

2018, want to experience AP watches for the first time, and feel what is the most high-end sports watch is

  • Jonathan Davies

This watch would be a great addition to my small collection! Thank you for the opportunity to win it. 2018 will be more of a maintenance for me as I have some watches that need a bit of servicing. In fact I’ve already replaced a saphire crystal on a watch this year and the year has just begun. I want to focus on appreciating what I have already, as I find the desire for better and more expensive watches one after another to be a bad habit. 2018 should be a great year for enjoying my Luminox field watch, Hamilton Khaki King 2, my vintage Tudor and hopefully my new GX1 Automatic! ?

  • Ben Garner

My 2018 watch collection plans start with winning this watch….

  • Eugene Najera

Cool watch!! My watch goal for 2018 is to win this watch for one of my kids:-)

  • James

Great looking watch. I would like to add my first automatic watch to my collection this year.

  • Satorical

My watch collecting goals are almost complete: I’ve been getting older watches serviced. Voila! More wrist-ready watches.

  • WK Ng

    Attractive!

  • Tub Tubbie

Joined one of the monthly watch subscriptions, hopefully that will add some nice watches to my collection for 2018.

  • Krzysztof Jelski

Plan for 2018: get some basic watchmaking skills, start a watch podcast in my country.

  • Benoit

plan for 2018 : get my dream job, and treat myself with a nice watch as a reward. :o)

  • Chris

This year I plan on saving, so I can add one or two high end watches to my collection.

  • Mike Potts

Very nice, a striking watch and a good size for my skinny wrist! This year I want a brass watch, something that’s going to become very personal; after that, of course, it’s saving for a Tudor North Star!! 🙂

  • Liutauras Balsys

At this price level it would be a good start for my watch collection. High end watches will follow in years to come.

  • njlou

I love “a Blog to Watch”. It is a much needed site for watch enthusiasts. The LIV GX1 as discussed in this blog is a very sporty automatic. Yes I do prefer automatics. I have a classic Omega, and a Breitling Crosswind. I would like another Breitling or some other “sport watch”. thanks for your good work.

  • ggkini

My watch goals for 2018 are to buy my first couple of real (mechanical) watches. One is an inspirational ( grail) watch that I have been lusting over for a few years and another would be an entry level everyday wear, which I am still figuring out.

In terms of growing as a watch enthusiast, I’m hoping to leverage ABTW and other resources like r/Watches to expand my knowledge of mechanical watches.

  • Brian Wells

I love the various textures on the dial.

My goals for 2018 concerning watches are to be very picky about what watches I aquire. I have 30+ watches now, so the base of my collection is complete. Now I’m focusing on those “grail” watches. As far as being an enthusiast, I’ve already joined 6 new FB groups in 2018. It’s nice to see what’s out there, and interact with other watch enthusiasts.

  • Tristan

Goals for 2018 – service my first movement, get better at making my own straps, shift a few watches I don’t wear in favour of one or two higher quality watches.

  • Sheila

In 2018 I’d like to think of it less as collecting, and more as curating. I’d love to learn more of the mechanics, and begin to repair some of my older watches.

  • Calvin Lee Yiu Chung

My watch collecting goals for 2018 is at least one no. of Swiss made auto watch. And,
my plan is follow “A blog to watch” to growing as a watch enthusiast.

  • Chhon Mc

My goals for 2018, I want to collect some sporty watches and learn more about its mechanical movements.

  • Mark

My goals for 2018 is to stop with all the impulse buying and to start to really add some unique, interesting pieces to my collection. So I kind of started over and now have two pieces I really like. I am looking for a third watch that will stand out. And as of now, I don’t even own a Swiss automatic.

  • Frank Zheng

I want to collect some Swiss-made watches from companies that cater more to the middle class customers. Right now the Swiss watch companies are mainly made up of luxury brands. People like me would like to have some unique designs without a high sentimental price or sacrificing quality.

  • David Fisher

The LIV GX1 is a great looking watch. This year I’d like to get a military style watch.

  • Justin

My goal this year is to save ALOT more money to buy a watch in the next five years.

  • Robert. Rantz

Love to get a LIV great looking watch

  • mohammed fadil ashraf

My watch collecting goal for this year will be bag as many as watch from ablogtowatch giveaways. My one and only plan to achieve this is by participating each and every giveaway from the website and hope high & pray to win it. Scooping up a LIV Automatic GX1 will be good start for my collection process.

  • peacesun

Like wearing a machine on your arm, the LIV Automatic GX1 will turn heads and keep me on time.

  • Cristina Lim

I will continue buying watches that I can afford. No imitation or fake watches!

  • Graham Congdon

I would like to get a GMT and maybe a a pilot watch, I mostly have divers right now. Also I want to dip my toe into selling a few of my watches that are getting the love they deserve.

  • hawaiicanal89

Once I graduate, I’ll finally feel OK starting my watch collection. Up until now, I haven’t been able to find a good enough reason to start my collection with no salary. I’ll start off slowly, and when I can afford to, continue to build my collection.

  • Steven Smith

I have “collected” watches for years. Usually keeping 4-5 that I wore on a regular basis. I have recently signed up for watchgang to help grow my collection. In two months I have gone from 3 watches to 12, and still growing. I plan on continuing my membership with watchgang as well as searching antique stores, auctions and consignment shops to obtain those obscure pieces. The ultimate end goal is to buy, sell and trade my way up to an Omega Globemaster.

  • Brian

I am just looking into starting my watch collection for myself and my son. I’m hoping to get one for my birthday and one for Christmas each year but that might be a bit greedy, lol. Hopefully we start with one, been looking at some Tag Heuer’s but not decided yet.

  • Jason Russell

This is a great looking watch for the price. I hope to add a few select pieces to the collection this year including a black and orange watch (a category which this just happens to fit into!) and a watch with red accents. Reaching out and exploring new and interesting brands is also a goal. There is an incredible amount of “craft” watch makers out there and so many of them are putting out quality product at reasonable prices.

  • pawel debik

For 2018 we’ll just have to see what budget allows. There are some great affordable watches out there that are really tempting, but for now I’m just mostly wayting to see what the price of the G Gerlach Enigma 2 chrono will be

  • Mark ZuVerink

For 2018 I’m definitely hoping to move down in pricing. I’ve owned watches I’ve enjoyed from $10 to $1k USD in value and to be honest I see diminishing returns above $200 for quartz and $300 for autos. I’d like to explore that price bracket (and maybe trim my collection a bit…)

  • William

Nice looking watch. Kind of an industrial vibe. For 2018, my watch collecting goals are to continue saving to make a purchase in the higher price point range. I have long been looking at the Rolex GMT II “Batman” but the recent release of a Vacheron Constatin in steel at a competitive price point has got me thinking. As far as growing as a watch enthusiast I intend to continue to regularly look at internet blog sites such as this but am also hoping to be able to attend an expo if I’m able to work it out.

  • James Michael

The LIV Auto is a fantastic watch. I already have a black and blue first edition. It’s become my “daily driver”. For 2018, I’m looking for a vintage Seiko Diver with a canvas strap for starters. I saw one in an ad recently and it caught my eye. It’s still early, and there are plenty of other nice pieces out there to catch my eye next. I’m all about nice watches at a value. My LIV is one of the best out there!

  • Claudio Martell

Looks like a fantastic watch, would love to add it to my collection.

  • Bob Acoff

I plan on adding a LIV watch to join my collection. as a watch enthusiast I plan on purchasing a Bulova 666 Diver.

  • George Flammer

For 2018 I’d like to be able to pick up a couple new watches. My collection has been stalled at 23 for a while as money has become a bit tight. Hoping to pick that up this year. As always thank you for the wonderful giveaways!

  • Byron McConnell

2018 goals include adding a Hamilton 992b pocket watch to my pocket watch collection and investigating modern automatic wrist watches. I plan to keep most of my quartz wrist watches.

  • Meir Weiss

Add: the new Hamilton Khaki Navy Mechanical
Sell: at least 2 from the current collection…

  • Kelly Commerford

I’d really just like to add to my collection this year. I’m new to this hobby!

    kcthelushiii@yahoo.com

  • Paul Rondel

I thought I’d get a new watch, and after having cheapie quartz, thought I’d try a mechanical … I found the Seiko SKX, but that was just the start of my research… days later, and hours of reading, and I have a massive list of possibles. So, first task for 2018 – pick one! I suspect it won’t stop there though…

  • archiev thapa

I love watching the sweeping seconds hand & the caseback; own 22 watches from dress watch, pilots watch, divers watch, field watch & fashion watch; my fav watches that i possess are Bulova Accutron II Lobster & Bulova Accutron Divers 300m & Bulova Marine 100m; HMT Janta. The watch is an object of art to be appreciated everyday & love it to the core of the heart.

  • Jacob Fischler

2017 was a year of change for me. But the biggest change was I proposed to my girlfriend (now fiancé). With the money I saved to buy that magic ring, I could’ve acquired a few solid pieces to my collection, of even just one grail watch. But I suppose love of a human is more important than love of horology.

In my watch life, I was given my grandfather’s Breitling ColtOcean after he passed away. It’s my first big boy watch and having it has really dramatically increased my passion for wrist accessories.

2018 will be my year for saving and researching and discovering exactly what excites me in a watch. I’m looking forward to it.

  • Kevin

This year I’m planning on getting back into the watch game. My daughter was born 2 and a half years ago with a few complications for both her and my wife. I ended up selling off my ‘single guy’ collection of a few decent pieces to help cover the costs associated with the medical care they needed. We’re now in much better shape financially thanks to a new job and promotion so we’re about to buy our first home, once that’s wrapped up I plan on dipping my toes back in and finding myself a used or new Doxa of some sort (I’m thinking Searambler). That’ll probably be it for me in 2018 but it’ll mean a lot to me to get back into the game and start planning out what comes next.

  • Jamie Clearihan

I love the colour of the LIV. My major purchase this year will be to add a Rebelde 50 to my collection. The Rebelde is made by Nick Hacko out of Sydney Australia. The 50 model is guaranteed with free servicing every 5 years for 5o years hence the name Rebelde 50. With this guarantee also comes 20 free replacement bands for the life of the watch. The watch is a limited run of 75 which is standard for all Rebelde watches. If you have not seen a Rebelde go and check them out. To offer that kind of guarantee Nick has a lot of faith in his product.

  • Miguel Millan

On 2017 I got to buy my very first swiss automatic watch, big goal for me as my passion for watches has been growing, this 2018 I’m planning to finally get real about a project I have: to produce my very first watch, designed and assembled by myself. Really looking forward to make this dream come true, who knows maybe one day my watches will have an article on A Blog to Watch? Hah!.

  • bobby

I’ve been following LIV since I saw them on Kickstarter. I’d love to see one in person

  • Peters

I haven’t made my wish list for this year, except for the Seiko SKX007. I have never got round to buying one yet, but this year definitely.

  • Quang Pham

In 2018 I bought my first watch by my own money, and it’s Citizen AT905 and my goal is to have some Swiss made watches this year. I already have 5 watches, all of them are just entry luxury watch and I want to have a real luxury watch

  • Alfred

I first started diving into the world of watches a few years ago while i was still in college as a typical broke college kid. Granted I’m still broke and trying to establish my first real career job, but nonetheless I still have the same aspirations as I did back then. For 2018, I want to start expanding my watch collection by finally getting an automatic watch, likely from Orient or something similarly priced at around $100. After that first step, who knows, I might either go into adding more straps to swap out or get a better diver/daily watch to wear other than a randomly gifted Tommy Bahama watch.

  • Donna Jacoby

I plan on starting my collection of watches this year and this would make a perfect edition. Thank you for the giveaway!

  • Yung Ben

In 2018 I want to buy my first luxury watch. I own several watches in the ~ 500 range but none of them are up there with the Grand Seiko, Omegas, Rolex’s, IWC, etc. I also plan on getting more involved with watchmaking. I’ve modded watches before, but i haven’t actually taken apart the movements. I think I will start with Seiko’s 7S26 and see how it goes 🙂

  • cvguild

For 2018 I’ve already started by adding to my young son’s collection a Swatch mechanical with a skeleton back. Fingers crossed that this is the year he starts to really enjoy learning about watches with me.

  • yehuda

My ambition is to have some Swiss made watches this year, And this watch could be a wonderful start

  • Joe Pettegrew

Rad watch. Would wear much time.

  • Mitchell Bell

As a watch enthusiast with small pocket my watch collection ambitions for 2018 are more appreciative than ownership orientated. My ultimate goal is to own a mechanical or automatic quality timepiece that is tasteful and with craftsmanship at its design core. However, at the moment I find satisfaction in the simple admiration of watches displayed in such places as ablogtowatch despite their evident unattainability.

  • les

This wont probably help me win the watch. But this year I want to try and Not add any more watches [unless I win one], as last year I added a new Ball Conductor and a vintage Rolex Cellini and a number of other less known brands to add to many other watches I have acquired over the years.

  • Janko

My wishes for 2018: decide on and get a Spring drive Grand Seiko – out of the short list of a few models I’d love. Go to one of the main watch shows. Learn, learn, and learn about where the watch industry, and subsequently watches, are going.

Love the numerals, colors and the overall design of this LIV. Hope to get lucky 🙂

And not to forget: big thanks to ABTW for your excellent coverage, blogs and vlogs, reviews and passion. You guys rock!

    Janko

  • Ahmad Ridzuan Mohamad

My 2018 goal is to own some Swiss automatic mechanical watches, preferably skeleton types. In order to grow as watch enthusiast, i already follow a few more watch blogs beside ‘Ablogtowatch’ in order to gain more knowledge about the movements, industry, design etc. Hopefully 2018 will be my lucky year!

  • Peter

I’m a fan of orange watches! It’s a fun color, and seems to make this dial easy to read. I like the rugged, fun vibe.

  • Justin Margot

My ambition is to have some Swiss made watches this yea

  • Nuno Tome

My goal this year is getting a Black Bay Bronze and building my 1st watch, possibly with an ETA6497 movement.

  • Erik Seidenfaden-Lassen

My watch collection goal this year is sat on a pause meanwhile I am doing studies (which is also why it would be super awesome to win a beautiful watch in a giveaway) 🙂 But my next goal is the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Tribute, love colorful watches that adds personality!

  • Jonathan Fisk

My collecting goal this year is to add a mechanical dress watch to my collection. I will grow as a collector by finding the perfect dress watch at a reasonable price!

  • Rafael Lirio

For 2018, my goal is to buy a Deep Blue and some dress watch.

  • Trevor Hirst

I want the jaeger master control date to join my growing collection. I recently added the radio captain cook limited edition and it’s amazing.

  • Craig Daniels

My goal — my grail — is an Omega Speedmaster Reduced. It’s such a sweet, classic piece.

  • Keegan

    *fingers crossed*

  • Shammy K

To add more automatic watches to the collection and take it up a notch quality and movement wise.

  • Philipp

The clear goal for 2018 is mechanical chronographs. I intend to start with a Seagull 1963, maybe the odd Valjoux 7750 and, if the corporate bonus gods are smiling, going for the speedy moonwatch. Oh, and Mr. Jones Last Laugh Tattoo edition is also on my list, that might be the first one this year.

  • Mark Jackson

Would love to own something like this that is so distinctive.

  • Bear Adams

For my wife and I’s anniversary, we set out to “upgrade” our wedding sets. Instead of upgrading my wedding band (I have a tungsten carbide ring if anyone was curious), I asked if I could buy a watch. My wife kindly agreed and I was able to add a beautiful TAG Heuer Aquaracer 300M Calibre 5 to my collection. My next steps as a watch enthusiast are ongoing as I am seeking to create a RedBar Chapter here in Charleston SC, and increase my social media presence in the watch community. I’m also looking at trying to grab either an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra (Co-Axial of course!) or a Breitling (Colt or Avenger… haven’t decided yet).

  • Calvin

I would love to own something like this.

  • Andrei Mihaila

I just bought two watches, a Citizen Nighthawk and a sterile pilot watch an I want to consolidate, to sell some of the pieces and to have a maximum of 20 watches.

  • Craig Ogier

Just purchased a nice display case with 3 slots to fill.
    The Liv would fit nicely.
Probably Traser or Nite for my next purchase.

  • Frits van der Veer

    nice, can liv with that!

  • Bryan

I have the goal of owning all the watches in the world. I plan on growing as an enthusiasts by staring at people wrists and asking a lot of questions. Random people. Random questions.

  • Donald Levy

This is what I am looking for, adding a watch with some boldness and heft. I also look at people’s wrists and if I see something interesting, might strike up a conversation. Most of my growth as a watch enthusiast comes from reading and talking to people, like the awesome gentleman who just fixed up my father’s old vintage seiko lordmatic for me.

  • Ödipuszné Terike K?pöcögi

Hello, I see here that not I’m the only one who would like to acquire some new watches in his collection this year. If Mr Buffett can adopt me, I would surely take a Bedat No.8 (Ref 888) luxury watch for the high-society parties and an IWC Aquatimer or a Jeanrichard Aquascope for leisure times.Unfortunately Mr Buffett does not know me so i must consider only my own budget. Good news, that a lot of nice watches exist in the wallet-friendly cost area. So most probably I will enlarge mycollection in 2018 with a MagretteMoanaPacificWaterman or a Gruman Sputnik. But if I’m quite lucky I could collect even 12 new watches this year through ablogtowatch.com giveaways.

  • ccofa

My goal is to own this watch!!!

  • Finster Grinsen

This year, I plan to venture into German watch brands.

  • bert gillespie

The inner dial face is interesting. I’ll be adding a couple sports watches this year.

  • Kevin

This year, I’m going to be aiming for quality over quantity. I’ll be more conservative with purchases to save up for bigger ones, and may sell off some infrequently-worn watches to fuel the habit.

  • PeterGK

I am a relatively new watch enthusiast, and my goal for this year is getting my first “nice” watch. I am still not sure what I will get, but possibly an Omega Speedmaster or Frederique Constant Slimline Moonphase. Hopefully there will also be time to read some books on watches and learn more about the history of the classic brands.

  • GataKamsky

Would love to wear this watch

  • Jorge Xiberiano

My goal this year is to add a Fortis Cosmonaut. Love its history.

  • rtrexel64

I would love to wear this watch to work

  • Brian Scott

I want to build a watch collection to rival my fathers so one in every color also some jord watches

  • Franck Gay

What a watch for the price!

  • Tony Craddock

Acquire my first Swiss automatic. Probably an Oris or maybe a Fortis or maybe an Omega or maybe a Breitling….

  • Paul M

Watch collecting goals for 2018 is same as always add more interesting watches to my collection.

  • John Cherry

For 2018 I’m doing the same thing as last year- trying not to buy everything I want to buy, and only collect worthwhile watches. Of course, the definition of ‘worthwhile’ changes over time.

  • To get 10 leather band watches for 2018

  • Fady

I started my watch collection this year. I just added the first longines watch. Maybe I will add another watch this year.

  • Tim Mai

Watch collecting goals for 2018 is to buy less watches to my collection because I always end the year with more than expected. I plan to read more in depth reviews of more obscure brands to widen my horizon.

  • Tien Tran

Would love to wear this watch!
I’m going to be aiming for quality over quantity. I’ll be more conservative with purchases to save up for bigger ones, and try to sell off less worn watches. Do more research before buying.

  • marco T

    Beautiful watch!
2018 collection goals: a vintage omega seamaster with a beautiful blue dial and a stainless steel band.

  • Mark James

    Sweet

  • honeypie411

My collection goal is a vintage Rolex submariner. Someday!

  • chris

Would like to purchase a Breitling Emergency 2018

  • Jarek Napiera?a

I’m (now) thinking of developing a small collection of UK and US Swiss made watches. Hamilton, Marloe, etc.

  • Ugo Uche

My goal for this year is to simplify my collection to two watches. A mudmaster or gshock aviator for casual and an automatic for business.

  • mmurayam

My goal is to do my first SKX mod

  • Douglas Weedman

I will continue to follow this blog fervently and look at doing my first watch mods.

  • nemonomenest

My goals are to get myself a Swiss automatic, and finish reading “Longitude” 🙂

  • Timmai Van

This year I plan to venture into micro watch brands. I will continue to follow this blog passionately

  • Randy Mac

My primary collecting goal for 2018 is to acquire one of the following, a Magrette Moana Pacific Diver II, a Alpina Seastrong 300 diver, or if I can score really big, something from the Oris Aquis collection. To help achieve that goal I want to sell several Casio G-Shocks, a couple of Citizen Primo Eco-Drive models, a first generation SKX779 Seiko Monster, and one or two other watches that don’t get any wrist time.

My other desire is to find out more about the world watch industry as a whole. I found the articles lately published by ablogtowatch about the process of manufacturing hair springs and the the current state of the Swiss watch industry very interesting. I want to find out more about watch moments, case manufacturing, and the assembly of watches, especially machine and/or robotic assembly. I hope ablogtowatch will highlight some of those topics.

  • treefroga1

My collecting must slowdown as other things take priority.

  • Oliver

I recently got my first swiss watch, to me it means a lot because before I was playing around most of the time, I had a couple of watches that I considered “good”, but with this new precious swiss piece of machinery I feel like I should become a more serious collector. I would improve my collection and use the money on meaningful pieces, hopefully soon I will hold some of my dream watches.

  • Jamie

I’ve been fascinated with the watch community and craftsmanship of the trade for a long time. However I’m also a full time college student who can only at most afford a Timex Expedition at the moment. Winning this would be the first nice piece of my collection, serve as inspiration to keep building it, and mark 2018 as the year that I finally got to take part in the hobby. So in essence, my watch collection goal for the year is to finally be able to start one.

  • Umesh Jonnalagadda

Last year marked a couple milestones for me..I finished my PhD, published my first paper, and started a new job overseas. For the past couple years, I have collected Seiko and Orient due to my paltry savings, but I hope to buy my first luxury watch this year. After getting into watch collecting, I became interested in movements like the spring drive and Zenith defy labs movement…just something a little bit out of the ordinary to prove that a watch can keep time without resorting to conventional methods. After looking more into Zenith as a company, I became interested in their story and,of course, the El Primero. Because of this, my 2018 watch goal would be a Zenith El Primero Chronomaster.

  • Noah

My goals for this year would be to make my collection a little smaller but more exclusive. And to acquire some more unique and interesting pieces. Like for instance this LIV piece.

  • Robert Straub

In 2018 I would like to get a quality time piece, I like skeleton and self winding watches, but want to expand my tastes a little. As for growing as a watch enthusiast, I think checking out blogs, and learning about what’s going on in the watch design would be my next steps. Learning about how the work, what makes them special, that kind of stuff.

  • Cody Nelson

I’m loving the bright on orange accents on this watch. My goal for 2018 is a simple one, finally add a diver to my collection. I’m generally a huge fan of field watches, but have realized it’s time to expand my tastes; hoping to make a decision before the summer months.

  • Ed Nemmers

    Stellar timepiece!

  • Ty B.

    Fabulous!

  • Frits van der Veer

    nice nice!!

  • MikeC

This year I would like to collect a few watches from more niche brands and get myself a g-shock to wear whilst renovating the house

  • Eric Thompson

A Blog To Watch has been a excellent resource for watch knowledge. I enjoy the articles and the site is very well organized. My goals for 2018 is to explore various watch winders manufactures, with the hopes of purchasing a new winder this year.

  • Chip Campbell

Nice looking watch. There are some good articles on the movement it you Google for it.

  • Debra Francis

I hope to add this watch to my collection.

  • Alexandru Catalin Punga

For 2018 I want to add an automatic watch to my collection and also a GPS/Smartwatch Activiti tracker watch (sorts of Garmin)

  • Dan Sully

Love this watch & others the company makes!

  • Federico

I love the way this watch looks, hoping to add it to my collection, and this 2018 I hope to increase my collection with a skeleton watch

  • Alistair Salmon

I actually love the orange and knurled steel look for this piece, could become my new beater watch I think! As for 2018 collection goals, I would love to add an Orient dress watch as well as something along the lines of the Citizen Stiletto. Something nice and thin to have under a motorcycle jacket 🙂

  • David Chung

In 2018, I would like to explore new brands, independent ones who have a passion for watch making, not just big names. For me, the watch must feel and look right, not driven to purchase based on price alone. The world of horology is getting more exciting and can’t wait to see what the world have to offer in 2018!

  • Mai Van

In 2018 I would like to get a quality time piece for as little price possible. I think checking out blogs, and learning about what’s going on in the watch design would expand my horizon. Learning about how the work, what makes them special, that kind of stuff.

  • Timmai Van

For 2018 I want to add an automatic watch to my collection. A Blog To Watch is an excellent resource for watch knowledge & reviews.

  • Elsie Mangeri

Watch goals – to win this watch! Thanks for this chance!!

  • Mark Perry

I’d like to round out my budding collection with a dress watch and a chronograph. Got my diver already!

  • Denis Danijel Puhar

I have quite a few mechanical automatic watches and most of them are entry level – under 500$ (Seiko 5, Orient,…). I hope, I can “raise” enough money to buy me a watch, which is an entry level luxury class. I do own a Tissot VISODATE, which falls into that category, but this is a dress watch and really unsuitable to be worn at ALL occasions and throughout the day – at least in my opinion (and taking into the consideration my requirements).

For example: I’d be happy to own a Seiko with a 6R15C caliber which can be found in the Seiko SARB017 or SARB033 (look the pictures below) OR a watch in this giveaway, the LIV GX1.

Owning this watch would fulfill all of my wishes for 2018, because I could wear it at all occasions and even when I’m at work. I’d be very happy to win it (as would all the participants here). It would not be just another watch in my (small) collection, but I would actually wear it most of my time.

About the issue of growing as a watch enthusiast:

I think, that in the past two or three years I learned a LOT about mechanical watches in general and became a real watch enthusiast. But the (mostly) theoretical knowledge can only bring you to a certain “distance”. Without owning more watches, which are of higher quality compared to those ones, which I posses currently, my knowledge is mostly useless, because I can’t “test” it on (for example) watches I mentioned before.

So, the answer is simple: By owning or even better – winning the LIV watch in this giveaway, my knowledge would only grow.

There’s only one thing I’d like to mention, before I’m finished:

I’d gladly own a watch, which costs between 1000 and 1500$, but my financial status currently permits me ONLY to enjoy them in reviews, such which for example are found on this website.

  • Ton Mangaliman

I started acquiring few pair of Mechanical watches in 2017 and am planning ti continie acquiring mechanical watches this year.

Grand Seiko, Tudor and hopefully a Rolex.

  • Michael Arcilla

I’ve been very fortunate to have recently inherited a few luxury watches from a larger collection that includes a Rolex, an IWC, a Mont Blanc and an Oris. Since then, I’ve become an obsessive reader and window collector of watches, devouring as many articles and videos as I can to further my education. This year, I hope to make my first ever retail purchase of a luxury watch (not second hand or through “friendly” channels) and I’m really excited to make that decision when the time comes.

On the side, I’ve also been teaching myself to maintain some of my mechanical watches – nothing big yet, but I’m hoping to eventually be able to appreciate it enough to service the movements on some of my less expensive watches.

  • Rodney

I’ve just recently started getting into watches. I am currently doing research and plan on buying my first luxury watch in 2018.

  • scott

Thanks for the great work, love the articles.

  • Jon W

I would like to get an automatic dress watch, something minimalist like a Nomos Glashutte, in the coming year. It would be a complement to my diver (a Magrette Moana Professional Black). In addition I’d like to learn more about hand-wound movements, so I would continue to look out for watches that exhibit high-quality examples of such movements.

  • Krishna

I would like to grow my collection of micro brands since, comparatively, they are a lot more affordable. However, I have always wanted to have a Seiko in my collection as well! My wish list is the Alpinist SARB017. I am also patiently waiting for my Pancor which I ordered through Kickstarter. I have one microbrand now and if I win this watch, I will have 3 microbrands by the end of 2018.

  • Marc Wensauer

Looking forward to adding a Seiko automatic dive watch to my collection for 2018 — current contender is the SKX173. Really dig ABTW for news and perspective on the industry. Would love to attend Baselworld at some point!

  • Anatoliy

Plan to buy Seiko Presage (Cocktail Time) with the power reserve indication this year.

  • Matias

I’d like to add an affordable aviator slide rule watch and I’d love to add this watch too.

  • Ionesi Victor

My financiar status is not allowing me to have many watches but I’d like to buy any swiss made watch with an automatic mechanism this year.

  • Abigail Gibson

I enjoy going to local watch trade shows but am not able to afford the luxury of purchasing at this time.

  • BOT

I want this to sell it to get a good watch 😀

  • Losgringo

    1. As a christmass present a have been given 5 german and russian watch from late 20th century, which need to be repaired. The gift is a motivation as i would like to became a watchmaker once. The goal for 2018 is to repair those watch and they will become part of my collection.
    2. I am sorry but i dont have an acount on any of the socialmedia you would like to be shared on. Only way i can be a pal at this point is mention your web to some of my friends interested in watch.
    Sincerely
    Losgringo.

  • Ferdi den Bakker

Honestly, I started saving for a Girard-Perregaux Laureato watch, as I consider it a great timepiece that should last for a lifetime. But as I did start the year spending money on the purchase of a Mira Classic Merveille de l’Espace Dual Retrograde (which I could get for a very reasonable price) I am not sure whether I will achieve buying the Laureato this year.. The GP will end up on my wrist this or one of the coming years. Tha LIV watch looks great too, I would love to add that one to my collection and wear it to the tennis court.

  • Babis Paidokoukis

For 2018 I am thinking of getting my first Omega watch, either a SeaMaster Aqua Terra or a Railmaster. It would be perfect company for my Stowa Marine Automatic 🙂

  • Will Thompson

My goal for 2018 is to grow my very small watch collection (of only 2) and collect my first swiss automatic watch! Or even my first automatic to start with.

As a watch hobbyis ive been doing a lot of reading to make sure I make the righy choice when I come to buy.

  • My goal for 2018 is Tudor Pelagos…

  • Cesar Augusto Guerios

2018, I’ll buy my first automatic watch, maybe a Seiko, Tudor, perhaps a Rolex sky-dweller.

  • @LCISDesign Swiss

I do love that LIV GX1 Automatic…..I am relatively new to watch ‘collecting’ but have amassed quite a few since I was in my teens. My dad bought me my first proper watch in 1978 for my 15th birthday – a seiko chronograph (known as the ‘Darth Vader’ nowadays I believe). I still have it, and it works fine (never serviced either!). In recent times I have decided to go for quite a specific, small, collection as funds allow. I have a ’63 sub (inherited from dad), a Tudor Black Bay Bronze (Blue Bucherer edition), a Paneral PAM112 and a selection of sports Tissot, Christopher Ward (love thier watches especially the Trident range – great value IMHO), Citizen and Seiko – the latter mostly mine from my teenage years on. I like large, ‘chunky’ chrono or Pilot watches and on my dream list would be a Chopard Mille Miglia, an Omega Speedmaster, a Jaeger Lecoultre Master Compressor Diving Chronograph and if my numbers came up 🙂 a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tourbillon Sport (steel, not gold, I hate gold watches…) or a nice steel Hublot Big Bang. Dreams etc., eh?

  • Alan Proudfoot

Just now I’ve got a pretty small watch collection, but after building my first mechanical watch (well, buying a movement, face, case and hands), I want to try it again, but with something slightly more complicated. Or, if finances allowed, a Rado Captain Cook…

  • Jerry Marquardt

I like a FossilGrant Twist Watch. I think that it would be an excellent addition to my wrist.
    versatileer(at)gmail(dot)com

  • Nick Eyriey

I like to buy at least one new watch a year to add to my growing collection. Particularly like some of the smaller boutique brands springin up

  • Dave Patey

This year I’d like my watch collection to reduce, from around 40 to a more sensible number… I’m thinking 38 would be about right!

  • Melissa Shirley

I would love to give this watch to my husband who lives watches and always wants new ones.

  • Max Spector

My goal for 2018 is to be able to treat myself to a watch within a price point of $2k-$5k. While some people collect cars, wines, or fine art, a watch is ultimately all three of those and a perfect investment that is wearable on a day to day basis. I have accomplished a few life and career goals and being able to invest in a timepiece will reflect those accomplishments. I have a Movado that I bought after I graduated grad school, but I’m looking in 2018 to treat myself to that ultimate watch that culminates and reflects that accomplishment of getting my dream job.

  • Korrey6

My collection goal for this year is to get that new Seiko presage SSA345J1. And I am growing as watch enthusiast by following youtube chanels 🙂 reading articles and following watch forums.

  • Ramon Abreu

My watch collecting goals for 2018 is to be strong and buy one maybe two pieces in the 2-5k range. I have some nice entry and mid-range watches and would like to buy a nice used Tudor Black Bay Heritage and / or Omega Speedmaster as my first true luxury watches. I plan to grow as a watch enthusiast by continuing to learn more about the watch movements themselves and the heritage of small independently owned brands that make most of their components.

  • Frank Murray

My watch goals for 2018 are to continue collecting and aim for a Breitling Navitimer. I enjoy Automatic watches as well as Manual wind and Quartz. I hope to add more watches this year – mainly Swiss.

  • Art Leyenberger

Interesting piece, especially at this price point. As to my own 2018 goals, I plan to improve the quality of my collection. I just got a Parmigiani Kalpa and am considering a H. Moser Small seconds.

  • Whoisi

My goal for 2018 is to find the simple moonphase watch with quartz or mechanical movement for my collection.

  • digitaldave

    Got to love the orange.

  • Harold Buttolph

    always love orange, great contrast

  • Travis Mitchell

Very nice movement for the price point! Love orange and carbon look tops it off.

  • Rafael

This year I intend to purchase my first great automatic watch and expand my knowledge on watchmaking and collecting.

  • funNactive

This year rather than buying a lot of sub $1200 watches, I want to save and get one really great watch. I looked at how much I spent last year in watches & if I had just purchased one great watch rather than quite a few okay watches I would be much happier.

  • Cul de Sac

    Great watch! My goal for
this year is to buy a watch by saving money through a method that is
not through the salary of my formal employment, I am investigating
freelancer tasks, non-formal jobs, etc … I think this year I will have that be very open mind.

  • Aaron

My watch collecting goal for 2018 is to know the time.

  • Darren Ertis

This year is likely to solely be a saving year, unfortunately! But sometimes you have to save before you can buy! Looking at a IWC Pilots Watch atm!

  • Matt

Being Dutch this orange watch would do nicely since our national color is orange !

  • Jonathan

I’d love to buy my first automatic watch, I’ve been holding out till I find something I love that won’t break the bank

  • JMN

This year I plan to find a watch capable of surviving life. No more worries about jumping in the pool, surfing, scratching the surface climbing hard, etc. i plan to expand my collection on kicka$$ only watched starting with this one

  • David Humphrey

I’m going to try to move beyond my four favorite watchmakers!

  • Jim Snider

Since there is no cash to spend at the moment I shall have to expand my collection in 2018 through awesome giveaways.

  • Darren Williams

This year I am looking for the perfect watch for the misses and also the right display case.

  • Shawn Vega Velez

This year I plan on gaining more watch knowledge.

  • Janice Gabriel

I would like to collect more watches this year to go with my swiss made watch and my atomic calendar watch.

  • mickey

Nice watch, would like to add to my wrist.

  • BigBrutus

    Need more watches!!!

  • penemio

I honestly don’t have any watch collecting goals for this year as money has been tight.

  • Juan Ignacio Tibaldo

My goal for 2018 is to find a beautiful moonphase watch with mechanical movement (at a decent price) for my collection.

  • Bryan E.

Hoping to add a Hamilton watch to my collection this year !

  • Taking an horology class to gain some education is at the top of my list and a solid chronograph or a world timer is something I would like to acquire. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8b738b3f68a1a994d97efc7b3022736fb729698b97e201a24114859c46b79c56.jpg

  • midnightsnakeoil

My goal for 2018 is to take a closer look into the future of wrist-wear going forward.
In particular how will the smartwatch develop. And how does ‘traditional’ watches fit into this new world.
Furthermore, Apple Watch while still has a few more things it needs to get right for it to be considered mature (namely the user interface and ‘killer-feature’ so things like barometric reading, uv reading, oxygen/pollution sensor, etc.)..

Anyway, what I found most eye-opening is how ‘cheap’ apple watch is compared to the ‘luxury’ traditional watches, or even one from more mainstream brand/model from Seiko. The case quality, the feature it offers. It really highlight the poor value proposition of high-end watches.

How can the luxury watch industry be more appealing going forward? Perhaps they needs to cut down the number of watches they are offering and focus on giving more quality/feature. So cut down the number of model and variation, and focus more on feature like tool-less interchangeable strap/bracelet and on making interesting/artistic movement. And the movement to be specifically made for a particular watch. So the date dial disc and the case back, once it is opened or if it is using display case back does not appear odd.

I wish the mechanical watches world would be more serious in regards to servicing/maintenance concern. I could not believe that in today’s world of high tech material science we still do not have watches that do not require oiling… (well apart from that JLC Master Extreme). Would be a great assurance if mechanical watches offer that, and the promise that they can replace the parts in the long future, should the watch need an overhaul/repair. That would make it easier for me to spend the kind of money that the luxury watch industry demand.

I plan to grow this year by exploring the world of wristwatches again. (I haven’t been keeping up with the watch industry for a while, and only recently began looking into it again).

  • I aim to get an elegant chronograph and add my horology knowledge.

  • Briellez16

my goals is to finish technology class to learn more and educate more people.

  • Miguel Silvestre

Awesome watch! My goal to 2018 is to have a new liv chronograph watch! 🙂

  • Syed Osama Sahir

watch collecting goal of 2018…a tudor heritage black bay steel and a frederique constant world timer in green

  • Aliasger Taj

Classic yet stylish wanna win this awesome watch.

  • Myles J. Doren

Very nice tech timepiece. Would look great on my wrist. Very intresting and would prompt some nice discussions.
