Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent Watches Watch Releases

The partnership of Hublot and Italia Independent is not new. The two companies first collaborated in 2014, and these new Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent watches are the third collection to be born from this union. For the uninitiated, Italia Independent is a design company based in Italy and founded by the extremely stylish but somewhat eccentric Lapo Elkann of Italy’s powerful Agnelli family. Most recently, Hublot and Italia Independent worked together to give us the Big Bang Unico Italia Independent watches in Texalium. Inspired by fabrics and textile, these Big Bang watches look distinctly different from the rest of the Big Bang stable. And now, Hublot and Italia Independent are applying the same aesthetic cues to the more elegant Classic Fusion watches, but this time with actual fabric.

Let’s begin with the basic recipe of these watches. The Classic Fusion Italia Independent watches are based on Hublot’s Classic Fusion Chronograph. Case size is 45mm and they will be offered in three different materials: titanium, ceramic, and King Gold. Inside, all of Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent watches will be powered by the calibre HUB1143, an automatic chronograph movement that beats at 4Hz and has a power reserve of 42 hours. Water resistance for all watches in this collection is a fairly decent 50 meters.

So what makes these new Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent watches special? Just take a look at the dials and straps: they are actual fabrics chosen from renowned Italian tailors Rubinacci. Founded in the early Thirties, the style meisters at Rubinacci have dressed luminaries such as the Duke of Kent and the Agnelli family, and have a collection of more than 60,000 square meters of exquisite houndstooth, tweeds, and various other expensive cloths.

Of course, using fabrics in watches is not a new concept. Hublot themselves used denim in their Big Bang watches as early as 2013. And last year, we saw Vacheron Constantin come up with the very elegant Métiers d’Art Elégance Sartoriale collection. So perhaps this new collection is further evidence that horology and couture can indeed go hand-in-hand.

It is probably safe to assume that these watches will appeal most strongly to fans of Rubinacci and also of fine tailoring. But I also think these will be attractive to any fashionista that is looking for a watch that can express their love for fashion. The Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent is priced at $15,100 in titanium, $16,100 in ceramic, and $35,100 in King Gold. hublot.com

  • Raymond Wilkie

Everyone of them without exception look absolutely awful.

    • Sheez Gagoo

At least the founder of Italia Independent (Lapo Elkann) is one of the funniest persons on earth.

      • Raymond Wilkie

That’s quite evenident in this collection. Funny strange not funny ha ha.

        • Sheez Gagoo

At least not boring. Nothing is worser than boring.

          • Raymond Wilkie

            Granted,…….they are definitely not boring.

  • BILL

20% of sales go directly into Lapo Elkann’s transsexuals & coke fund.

  • Sheez Gagoo

    Lol. “eccentric”.

  • Sheez Gagoo

Normally not a fan of Hublot, but these looks great.

  • Shawn Lavigne

    oh boy?!

  • DanW94

Hublot should jump on the vintage bandwagon with these and release a 70’s inspired model in polyester.

    • The Bicompax Double-knit. I like it.

      • BILL

        They’ve gone to plaid!

        • Raymond Wilkie

          And i’ve gone flacid

          • SuperStrapper

            Sure, blame the watch.

          • DanW94

            LOL….

  • BILL

    Are you rakish, sir?

Have you ever faked your own kidnapping, sir?

    • Sheez Gagoo

      You mean “libertin”.

  • The watch guy, the pen guy, the eye-wateringly hideous plaid suit guy…they’re all the same guy.

  • SuperStrapper

Well, it’s a Hublot article, so why cares about actual opinion, COMMENCE THE HATENING.

I think they’re all pretty cool.

    • IG

I hate Hublot and proud of it.™

      • SuperStrapper

        Haters ‘gon hate.

      • Raymond Wilkie

Just what word are you trade marking here ?

        • IG

          The whole sentence.

    • Word Merchant

Glad to be able to help out.
      Yuk…

    • Beefalope

      Of course you do.

  • wallydog2

The dials and bands remind me of those terrible men’s slacks from The Partridge Family days. How often can Hublot try to re-invent itself – and for a mere 15 to 35 $K?

    • Larry Holmack

I am disappointed that there wasn’t a version that had the plaid slacks that Dan Aykroyd and Steve Martin used to wear in their classic SNL Skit… Two Wild and Crazy Guys!!

      • wallydog2

        Exactly!

      • BILL

        The Festrunk version. 🙂

  • IanE

    Pass the sick-bag.

  • Beefalope

These are so awful. Hublot will sell plenty of them.

  • commentator bob

For $15K plus you would think they could get the lines in the strap patterns to line up with the lines in the dial patterns, but no.

  • BNABOD

Maybe this is one of the situations where seeing the watch in person would help pass better judgement but forget the dials for a second the case shape I like a lot and they seem well finished especially the gold one w the obnoxious name “King gold” . Now the dials they are not for me but the price is just nuts

  • Yan Fin

I will wait for sharkskin version… And how come no velvet?

    • Larry Holmack

I was hoping for the ever popular Elvis painting on Velvet version!!!

  • Yanko

Only HUBLOT can come up with such garbage. I don’t think that even FDA can come up with remedy for this disease.

  • Polerouter

I have to admit though, some of them would go perfectly with my pair of slippers…

  • ??????

Tasteless as usual: vive el Hublot! These signature hi-tech cases inspired by Gerald Genta designs go oh so well with tge dials made from old slippers.

  • Phil Dix

    3 words to define these:

    Awful
    Overpriced
    Garbage

    Thanks Hublot!

  • Quite the Hub this lot.

  • Auto Correct

These would be great for target practice.Just lay them all out 15 yards out and start unloading clips. Call it the HUEBLOW BANG BANG Range Edition

  • Larry Holmack

C’mon guys….is this the best you can do???

  • Marco Sampuel

Great! Now I have to match my suit to my watch

  • Mark1884

I like a lot of the Hublots, but not these. If I was forced to pick one, it would be the rose gold case and green plaid model. Rose gold makes anything look good!

  • mtnsicl

    A huge Thumbs Down!!!

  • Steve

Strange style, pecular taste for particular royal customers

  • Ulysses31

I thought this was a “Watch what-if?” segment at first. The designs are heading downmarket, into fashion-watch territory, but the prices keep going up. If you’re a TOWIE douchebag who needs a watch to match his hounds-tooth jacket and cap, these are the watches for you.
