Just recently, Ulysse Nardin unveiled an updated Diver Chronograph collection consisting of three newly refined luxury dive watches. More restrained and contemporary in their aesthetics than previous models, this trio represents the refreshing design attitude embraced by Ulysse Nardin in 2020 and beyond. There are three variants of the Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph: rose gold with blue accents; titanium with black accents; and the special limited-edition titanium “Hammerhead Shark” model with blue and red accents.

This being Ulysse Nardin, the Diver Chronographs are as at home on a dive as they are while yachting. Each of these watches is a 300M water resistant dive watch, finished to the standards of this renowned Swiss manufacture. Let’s take a closer look at what goes into the making the new Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph collection.

A NEW CONVEX BEZEL

This new generation of Diver Chronograph strikes a more subtle design than its predecessor, though it remains an uncompromisingly serious dive watch with 300M water resistance. The new uni-directional inverted bezel is now concave and is rubberized in either black or blue, depending on the model. With raised numerals at 15, 30, and 45, which are brushed, the bezel also has a lumed 0. Solid and with tactile ease of use, the new bezel on the Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph is simple, functional, also finished to the brand’s high quality standards.

MATTE GRAIN TEXTURED DIAL

The matte dials are finished with a grain texture and designed for maximum legibility beneath the domed sapphire crystal, which is done in anti-reflective coating. The dial layout features a running-seconds counter at 9 o’clock, a minutes sub-dial at 3 o’clock, and an hour sub-dial at 6 o’clock. Within the hour sub-dial is the circular date aperture, which no longer features a magnifying lens.

Also new on the dial are the two large paddle-shaped hour and minute hands that are finished in lume, as are the hour-marker indices. The hands for the three sub-dials are also lumed. The central chronograph hand is done in a vibrant red on the Hammerhead Shark, as well as the black titanium model, while the gold model has a matching rose gold chronograph hand.

THE CASE

The 300M water resistant case measures 44mm-wide, approximately 15mm-thick, and has a 49.5mm lug-to-lug length. On the left side of the case is a screwed plate that reads the watch’s unique number. Note that the rose gold and Hammerhead Shark have blued screws on the plates, and the Hammerhead Shark also has red text. On the right side of the case are the screw-down chronograph pushers and crown. While the non-limited rose gold and titanium models have black screw-down pusher guards, the limited-edition Hammerhead Shark has these in red.

The two non-limited Chronograph Divers have sapphire exhibition casebacks, while the Hammerhead Shark features an engraved caseback depicting its namesake fish.

IN-HOUSE MOVEMENT

The UN-150 is an in-house automatic, integrated, column-wheel chronograph movement that operates at 28,800 vph and has a 48-hour power reserve. Made up of 322 parts, the UN-150 has silicium escapement and balance spring. Beyond its performance, the UN-150 is decorated with Côtes de Genève, flame-blued screws, and the rotor has the Ulysse Nardin insignia.

ULYSSE NARDIN RUBBER STRAP

The Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph comes on a pin-buckle rubber strap, which has the recognizable titanium or rose gold link. Both decorative and functional, the link helps the Diver Chronograph form to the wrist for wearing comfort.

The non-limited black titanium Diver Chronograph is also available on a steel bracelet, as well as a black fabric strap.

The Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph is a true luxury tool watch that marries toughness and refinement in one package. The Hammerhead Shark (ref. 1503-170LE-3/93-HAMMER) is a limited edition of 300 pieces, priced at $11,900. The black and titanium Diver Chronograph (ref. 1503-170-3/92) is priced at $11,500. Finally, the rose gold Diver Chronograph (ref. 1502-170-3/93) is priced at $38,500. Note that Ulysse Nardin now offers an extended five-year warranty on all newly purchased watches.
