Debuting their third collection, Florence-based Anonimo has released their Epurato design. Since the brand’s inception in 1997, Anonimo has had two primary collections in their product line, with a focus on dive & military-style watches. The Anonimo Epurato Bronze is the debut piece for the new Epurato collection, and presents a clear progression of the brand’s design aesthetic with its cushion shaped case and numerals at 12, 4, and 8, while toning down the military style just a tad through the inclusion of a bronze case and sunburst dial.

Anonimo has slightly veered away from their usual offerings. The brand as a whole has typically focused on 44mm dive watches with Panerai-style cushion cases, which is fitting, since the founders of Anonimo broke off from Panerai when Panerai left Italy in 1997. This style of watch typically falls outside of the aesthetic that I prefer to wear on the day-to-day, however I find the design to be quite attractive overall. The bronze case is certainly going to be divisive among watch fanatics, but Anonimo has a history of working with the material over the last 20+ years.
Personally, I like bronze as a watch case material, as I like the process of watching it age and patina, and it also offers just that touch of something different from the normal stainless steel case. The sunburst anthracite dial is attractive, and adds a bit of a dressy feel to the Epurato. The combination of the dial finishing, leather strap, decrease in size to 42mm, and the only 50m of water resistance, shows that the brand is trying to go after a new type of consumer, while still retaining the style they’ve been known for. While it isn’t likely I’d find myself wearing this piece, I have no doubt it will find customers easily.
Anonimo has debuted their latest Epurato collection in their typical fashion, by releasing the model in bronze. Based on their past releases, we can expect to see the Epurato design offered in steel cases soon. We’ll likely see more of this model with a price of 2,990 CHF at Baselworld 2018, but for now you can reference more information about the Anonimo Epurato Bronze on the Anonimo website. anonimo.com
