1. IN-DEPTH I: GRAND SEIKO KODO CONSTANT-FORCE TOURBILLON SLGT003

I was genuinely surprised when Grand Seiko unveiled the Kodo Constant-Force Tourbillon SLGT003 earlier this year. There’s no question that the brand has very talented watchmakers. After all, it showed off a constant-force tourbillon concept movement back in 2020. But I didn’t expect the brand to actually turn it into a watch. The end result, as you can tell from the photo above, is impressive. Not only is the movement technically complicated, but it is also highly skeletonized, too, and finished to very high standards. Take a closer look at this amazing watch in the link below.

2. BYE-BYE PANERAI – HOW STALLONE GOT SICK OF THE BRAND

The actor Sylvester Stallone is widely credited with the rise of Panerai. According to popular lore, Stallone discovered the brand when he was filming the movie Daylight in Rome. The watch then appeared on his wrist in the movie, and the rest is history. However, we now know this story to be false. Not only did Stallone not discover Panerai, but it also turned out that his association with the brand was essentially a rather elaborate and covert marketing operation. That said, eager watch-spotters have realized that, despite his connection with the brand, Stallone is hardly ever seen with a Panerai on his wrist. What happened to his relationship with the brand?

3. THIS MAN CAN FIND YOUR DREAM WATCH

Dream watches can be hard to find,  and I’m not talking about your run-of-the-mill stainless steel Daytonas or even 5711 Nautiluses or 15202 Royal Oaks. I’m talking about truly rare stuff like vintage pre-Daytona Rolex chronographs, Patek 1518s, and obscure AP pocket watches. To seek these watches out often requires a mentor who eats, sleeps, and breathes watches. This is an article about some of these individuals, who have come to be known as “high-value vintage watch dealers.” You might have seen some of them in videos or even be following them on Instagram.

4. THE JACOB & CO. OPERA GODFATHER 50TH ANNIVERSARY IS AN OFFER YOU CAN’T REFUSE

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the cinematic masterpiece The Godfather. And to celebrate it, Jacob & Co. has recently unveiled the Opera Godfather 50 Anniversary watch. To be sure, this isn’t the first time the brand has put out a Godfather-themed watch. There was a version back in 2018, but this new watch is far more intricate and elaborate, to the point where it makes the 2018 watch look like an unfinished prototype. To start, this watch has a triple-axis tourbillon. But what makes it truly special is its musical mechanism that plays Nino Rota’s “Love Theme from the Godfather.” Furthermore, it features case flanks that have been engraved with scenes from the movie. Take a closer look at this love letter to the Godfather in the link below.

5. THE HISTORY OF THE PATEK PHILIPPE NAUTILUS

The words iconic and legendary have been thrown about and used frivolously to describe many watches. But if there was ever a watch that was deserving of the labels “icon” and “legend,” it must be the Nautilus from Patek Philippe. The Nautilus was born under unusual circumstances in that it wasn’t even the first stainless steel sports watch to command high prices; that distinction belonged to a certain watch from Le Brassus. However, it grew to become one of the most sought-after watches in the world. Seeing that Patek recently unveiled the new Ref. 5811 Nautilus, we thought it would be good to revisit the Nautilus’ roots and see how it became the icon that it is today.
