2021 experienced the release of another record-breaking watch from Bulgari. Following half a dozen years of introducing “world’s thinnest” mechanical watch movements, the latest master-of-thin piece is the BVLGARI Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar. It sets the record as the world’s thinnest automatic mechanical watch with a perpetual calendar complication. The in-house-made movement is just 2.75mm-thick, in an Octo Finissimo case that is just 5.8mm-thick.

Perpetual calendar mechanisms are calendars that take into account the difference in length between both months and leap years. The 408 components of the hand-assembled caliber BVL305 micro-rotor-based automatic movement fill a narrow space and also elegantly form a symmetrical perpetual calendar display on the Octo Finissimo watch dial. The watch itself debuts in sandblasted titanium, as well as in platinum, in an Octo Finissimo-style case that is 40mm-wide.
