One year after its debut, the Frederique Constant Hybrid Manufacture remains the ideal watch for the enthusiast who appreciates a mechanical, in-house movement while recognizing the benefit of having immediate access to personal health data. In addition to health tracking, the Hybrid Manufacture also monitors the accuracy performance of the mechanical movement through its Calibre Analytics tool. This monitoring capability, as well as the useful 24-hour world-time function, makes the Frederique Constant Hybrid Manufacture an industry pioneer.

There are times when we all would like to disconnect from our cell phones and inboxes. With nothing obvious betraying its connected nature, the Hybrid Manufacture looks just like a classic mechanical watch, at first glance. However, the “Hybrid” smartphone app immediately provides information on how many steps you’ve taken, how many calories you’ve burned, and how much sleep you are getting. This tracking can be customized so as to provide the wearer with the ability to set health tracking goals for each of these. All this ties back to an appreciation of the analog in a digital age, while fully taking advantage of the benefits of having health monitoring data. It’s uncompromising in both ways.

The Hybrid app also has Calibre Analytics, which basically monitors the health of the mechanical automatic Caliber FC-750 movement. This is done by gauging the rate, amplitude, and beat error on a daily basis. If there are any performance aberrations or issues, the Hybrid app will alert you to this. This allows the wearer to not worry about accuracy issues, as the data is readily available in the app.

Having immediate access for one’s personal health data and Caliber Analytics in a traditional mechanical watch body defines the Frederique Constant Hybrid Manufacture.

The automatic Caliber FC-750 is an in-house-developed and -built movement that operates at 28,800 vph with a 42-hour power reserve. In addition to the hours, minutes, and seconds hands, there is a date indicator at 6 o’clock. The movement has an electronic module attached to it that powers the connected features, which has a battery life of 7 days. A challenge in creating the Hybrid Manufacture was the effects of magnetism from the module, but this was solved by creating an anti-magnetic case which is patented by Frederique Constant.

The Frederique Constant Hybrid Manufacture comes in a 42mm wide steel case that has sapphire crystal on the dial and an exhibition caseback. The watch also has 50 meters of water resistance.

Looking at the pusher on the side of the case between 9 and 10 o’clock is the link between the watch and the Hybrid app. It can be used to control the sub-dial at 12 o’clock, which displays a second time zone and either the percentage of activity goals achieved or as power reserve for battery life. Beyond this, there is nothing on the dial that gives away the smartwatch functionality of the Hybrid Manufacture.
