Erotic watches are a curious thing. I don’t know too much about the culture behind them, or the people who collect them. They sort of feel like toys for the sexually repressed. There are good and bad examples of these types of watches out there, but they are almost always combined with classic looking timepiece elements. Perhaps that is to help justify the “art” behind the watch. Personally I am amused by them. I find the quizzical concept appealing for what it is. I am probably not the target market for such watches, but I still get a kick out of seeing them. This new Kudoke 69 is a particularly “in your face” version of the watch, but is certainly not out of the norm for these timepieces. There are some in the extremely expensive range that combine the erotic elements with animations and minute repeaters.

This watch takes two concepts and puts them together. First is the beautiful open-work of a “naked” skeletonized and decorated watch, and then there is the Erotic aspect of it which includes the two nude figures. Stephan Kudoke of Kudoke is a German watch designer who created the 69 Eros watch. He likely wanted his brand to have an ‘erotic’ timepiece and to showcase the artistic and decoration prowess of the brand. The movement is manually wound with the figures in yellow gold that are hand carved. One the back of the watch you’ll find one of the prominent gears blued and done in a combined women and male symbol design. For some reason this watch reminds me of Austin Powers, the great Mike Meyers character. He wore a male symbol around his neck sometimes… This Kudoke 69 watch has a classic style and unabashed silly eroticism that he would favor. At least I think so. The characters on the watch are styled in an almost amateur fashion. At first you might wonder why they were not rendered more accurately. But that would signify a misunderstanding of the art form. Where such exaggeration and humor is built into it. Check out $50,000 – $100,000 minute repeater watches with similar “erotic scenes” and you’ll know what I am referring to. Kudoke actually did a decent job of emulating the contemporary style of these watches wall giving the watch a playful character and a nice decorated and skeletonized dial.

Kudoke’s 69 eros watch collection will be in a limited edition of just… yes, 69 pieces. The steel case is 42mm wide, and I am not sure of the movement used. Looks like a Unitas that has been heavily skeletonized, but I am not sure. The engraving and perlage on the movement plate and bridges makes for a good look, and the overall watch is a proud point for the collection. Price for each of the pieces is 7,680 euros.
