The new Marnaut Dark Surge 300 watch is inspired by the blue ocean in the Adriatic Sea. Engineered for exploration and designed in Croatia, Marnaut signifies the return to the enduring style and quality of the great dive watches of the past, standing out in an already crowded timepiece market by blending style with performance and authentically inspired design.

Mario Jutronic, the man behind the brand, a career creative and a life-long horology enthusiast, wanted to fuse the golden age of ocean timepieces with 20th century modern design and exceptional performance. His answer? The Dark Surge 300. It’s a 42-millimeter diver with robust specs, with a design inspired by Mr. Jutronic’s time growing up by the Adriatic Sea, snorkeling and searching for Sea urchins. A truly original design in its own right, the shell of the urchin provided the perfect concept for a dive watch dial; 46 individual metal indices filled with C3 Super-LumiNova, making up the unmistakable pattern and glowing in captivating symmetry. The steel hands are charged with the same C3 Super-LumiNova, their silver metal contrasting with the dial for excellent legibility.

The Dark Surge’s enamel finished dial appears deep, engineered with a domed sapphire crystal, signed screwed-in crown, dual o-rings, and a gasket-sealed caseback to withstand 300m depths and housing the automatic Miyota 9015 movement.

The 24-jewel movement beats at 28,800bph with a 42-hour power reserve and features hand winding and hacking. The bezel is crafted from anodized aluminum in color variations across the models with a lume-filled pip and five-minute markers. This feature does deter from the traditional “dive watch” according to the ISO 6425 standard. However, Marnaut is eager to be equal parts modern design and high performance machine. The bezel is proportionally narrow, with consideration to the 316L steel case spanning 42mm wide, allowing space on the dial for the 46 markers to have an impact.

The watch features a 13mm thick case, a full 52mm span, and 20mm lugs.

There are three variants to the design achieved by changing up the case and bezel.

  • Brushed stainless steel case with silver bezel (MDS300S)
  • Brushed stainless steel with black bezel (MDS300T)
  • Black plated steel case with black bezel (MDS300B)

All models ship with a black silicone strap, a distressed leather strap (all different shades for the variants), and a leather travel pouch. You may also add on other straps at reasonable prices to achieve a customized look for your piece.

Marnaut have proactively developed a unique authentication method through the app CertiEye (Android & IOS) using a QR code corresponding to your timepiece’s individual serial number. This feature was designed in effort to ensure counterfeit items don’t make it to the hands and wrists of collectors, protecting their heritage, should Marnaut gain currency in future used and vintage markets.

The production of the Dark Surge 300m is capped at 300 pieces per model annually. By capping production, Marnaut can ensure their customers maintain pride of ownership and their timepieces will hold their value for years to come. The Kickstarter campaign has already begun: $449 for the Two Tone classic and Silver edition and $499 for the full black IP plated variant. marnaut.com
