Oris is an independently owned producer of fine Swiss timepieces. Proudly run by the Herzog family since 1928, Oris has earned its place as one of the most prominent independent brands in the Swiss watch industry. The brand’s primary product lines are the Big Crown Pointer Date, Big Crown ProPilot, Aquis, and Divers’ Sixty-Five series. Oris carries a proud legacy of supporting environmental conservation causes around the globe, from rebuilding coral reefs in the Florida Keys to creating one-of-a-kind watch dials from PET plastic removed from the Pacific Ocean. Oris also has a broad collection of watches commemorating historic figures, including jazz musicians, baseball stars, and pioneers in scuba diving.
Oris was founded in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian in the small Swiss town of Hölstein, and the company was named in honor of a stream that runs past the town. Although many Oris models use third-party movements, the brand has a factory capable of manufacturing its own movements in-house. Oris’ in-house movements, including the Calibre 400 family, are technically robust and offer both high accuracy and above-average durability.
Oris watches span from midcentury-inspired entry-level luxury daily wear designs to avant-garde mechanical complications including mechanical depth gauges and mechanical altimeters. Oris is a stalwart favorite among watch enthusiasts for its independent spirit, clean design, solid construction, and excellent value for money. For most enthusiasts, the brand’s most popular products tend to be part of its larger dive watch and pointer date collections.
