Tag Heuer Link Smart Phone – Exclusive Debut

Tag Heuer Link Smart Phone – Exclusive Debut

No, it isn't a watch but it does tell the time - this is the exclusive debut of the Link Smart Phone with pictures and details. It started with the Meridiist luxury phone in 2008 and now comes the Link Smart Phone - the second major mobile phone from Tag Heuer. It will run Android and be tough as nails according to Tag Heuer. One major complaint many people have about super high-end phones (aside from the obvious complaints) is that they are no more, or less durable that normal phones. Drop many of them and bye-bye to telecom investment.

If I am to spend $5,000 and up on a cell phone, I want to know that it will survive drops, disasters, and the train crash from Super 8. Tag Heuer goes into great detail discussing how it is water-tight, fully air-sealed, shock-resistant, and used some type of a hard material over the screen called Gorilla Glass (is that related to Gorilla Glue?). I don't know precisely what the phone will put up with... but at least it puts up with a bit of abuse.

The case itself can be had in steel, 18k rose gold, and titanium. Trim includes rubber, alligator, leather, and other materials. Link Tag Heuer timepieces, the Link Smart Phone has a crown on the side of it. I am not sure what it is used for, but it might be part of the port above it that houses the charging port, SIM card, and memory card.

Most luxury phones are pretty limited in terms of their functionality, but Tag Heuer really wanted to make sure that the Link offered the experience more demanding clientele would want - so being an Android powered device is a good idea. While it does ship with the older Android 2.2, that will likely be upgraded down the line. On top of the base OS, Tag Heuer is said to throw in a bunch of goodies that will be anything from special ring tones to pictures, and so forth. Internal memory is scant at 256 megs, but the memory card that is included has 8 gigs. With the iPhone setting a lot of bars, I cant see how high-end phones don't have at least 16-32 gigs of storage, but that is another discussion.

I do have to say that the Link does look very chic and good looking. Tag Heuer knows how to pull on my geek heartstrings with that very cool promo video. I'd be more than happy to tote around the black and gold model. Though it is going to cost more that the starting price of 4,700 Euros.

First came to your website, I like your article and look forward to your updates faster. thanks.

3 months to be out dated! It's not even on sale and its out dated. 256mb internal memory is like running Windos 7 with 512mb. good luck.

a very good phone but just with 256MB internal memory?!
Gosh! It can't beat my Galaxy 551!
What another shame phone that tag made! I've tested the meridiist and yes, that phone has very nice grip and luxury materials, and i have rich feel with it, but when i turn it on, it all just suck with outdated OS and feature, same like the cheap nokia with color display!
Then they come with this. I hope this one can be same or can beat the chairman, but it just worst!
Better buy the chairman by UN than this!

Yes, I am watch whore and a phone whore, but I have never considered combining the two passions. Now that it has been done I am even more confident I would never combine the two. Seriously, Tag? Is business that bad that you need to hone in on a different line?

its same copy of iPhone m i right? :)

Yuck! For that price you better bump up the hardware as well as the software. What are you thinking?

Astonishing poor taste.

Shocked to say this, but an Apple product provides BETTER value than this monstrosity. Looks like the phone designed by Homer, for Homer. It needs to have specs that dominate other phones, not the reverse - because you can slap all the go-faster stripes and spoilers on your Toyota Yaris, it'll still be the same weakling machine on the inside. This is just an old piece of hardware covered in expensive garish materials - everyone on Jersey Shore will want one.

Um... okay. The specs will be out-of-date in 3 months. After that, you'll be in the situation of having just paid $5K+ for an 18k gold paperweight filled with TAG Heuer crap-ware. I'll pass.

Damn, that is one ugly piece of junk.

I'll just buy a TagHeuer replica jacket off of ebay for $10. That way when people laugh at me when I pull it out of my pocket I won't feel so bad ripping it off and tossing it in the garbage.

Thanks, but no thanks. It looks great, but were someone to take one out in a meeting, etc, I'd just call douche. Like anyone should want a $5k+ phone when there are endless Blackberry, iPhone, etc, etc, etc offerings that are just as, if not more capable for a bare fraction of the cost (if not free). Sure, it's air and water tight, and you can use it as a self-defence weapon its so shock resistant. But didn't it cost more than my first car and contains alligator hide and 18k gold? So regardless of it's ability to withstand that punishment, I'm not about to test it out.

Gorilla Glass is used for the screen in many of the new Tablets (i do not think the ipads use it though).

I finally have a reason to upgrade my Tracfone!!!!!

  4. […] Runs Android 2.2 (Froyo) out of the box. The device is probably one of the toughest around and is said to be “fully shockproof”, watertight, airtight and comes with scratch-resitant Gorrila Glass. However what sets the phone apart from probably any other phone out there is that you can choose from calfskin, alligator or lizard trim. You can also choose to have a 18k gold or titanium case. Starting from €4700 is a hell of a lot of money so any a very few I think will want this phone also I think it’s ugly, don’t you? [source] […]
