Citizen-Marvel-80th-Anniversary-Watch

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been one of the most popular, enduring, and lucrative movie franchises in history. For the past 11 years, comic book fans (and recent converts) have grown up following the adventures of Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and friends, until many of those individual stories wrapped up in 2019’s blockbuster, Avengers: Endgame. And it just so happens that the conclusion of the MC’s original arc coincides nicely with Marvel comic books’ 80th anniversary. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Citizen, one of the world’s largest watch companies, has produced a limited-edition timepiece: The Citizen Marvel Marvel 80th Anniversary watch will be released in November and limited to 1,939 pieces to mark the year Marvel comics first put pen to paper.

The watch itself is a handsome affair with a dark blue sun-ray dial, which is overlaid by “ghost” images of Marvel logos from the past eight decades. The dial is well-balanced, with a date window at the traditional 3 o’clock position and double-digit Arabic numerals (in a decidedly cartoonish font) at the “12” and “6” positions, represented here on the Citizen Marvel 80th Anniversary watch by the numbers “60” and “30.” For added legibility, the minute track is printed in yellow and white on an encircling rehaut ring. The hands are wide and easily readable in all light conditions, thanks to their having been coated with luminous material. A centrally mounted going seconds hand in bright red stands out against the engaging dial.

Raised and polished hour marker surrounds contrast nicely against the darker hue of the titanium case and bracelet. In addition to the grittier color of titanium, the case features a black bezel and crown, which, along with the angular overall design, makes this watch perfect for any no-nonsense caped crusader (or loyal sidekick). Water resistance is secured by a solid and deeply engraved caseback decorated with a special anniversary graphic.

This model is powered by Citizen’s famous Eco-Drive technology. This sustainable technology demonstrates how the brand is committed to protecting the environment, by harness light (either natural or artificial) and converting it into energy, eliminating the need for batteries.

The Marvel 80th Anniversary Limited Edition timepiece will retail for $495 USD and will be available for purchase in November. To find out more, and to check pre-sale availability, please visit citizenwatch.com/marvel.
